Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The HP Pavilion s7410n Slimline desktop PC gives you all the power of a fully loaded home/office desktop in a sleek, silvery gray chassis. Measuring 4.4 inches wide and 9.75 inches high, it's one-third the size of a traditional PC tower, enabling you to place it unobtrusively anywhere--from your office to entertainment center to kitchen. It's a great choice for everything from working on your family's finances to storing and playing an extensive multimedia library (including photos, home video from your camcorder, and all your music). It features an extra-large 250 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB max), 1.7 GHz Intel Celeron M processor 390, LightScribe dual layer DVD burner with 16x DVD+R write speed (also compatible with writing CDs), multi-format memory card reader, a wide variety of connectivity options (including both USB 2.0 and FireWire), and Windows XP Media Center edition.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: The 250 GB hard drive (7200 RPM) is exceptionally roomy compared to other budge-conscious, family-oriented desktop PCs. You'll have no problem storing a wide range of software applications and a giant digital audio/video library as well as room enough for editing digital home video.
  • Processor: The Intel Celeron M Processor 380 is traditionally designed specifically for mobile computing, but the 380 enables the SlimLine s7410n to keep cool even when multitasking. The 1.7 GHz speed resides near the very top of the spectrum for this processor (as of March 2006). It also features a 400 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and large 1 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
  • Memory: The 1 GB of built-in memory (2 x 512 MB, DDR2 SDRAM, PC-4200) is a decent start for power users, and it offers a fast 533 MHz speed. But you'll want to take advantage of the 2 GB capacity for working with today's demanding business productivity applications.
  • CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the s7410n's multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.

This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs. Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: It comes with an HP multimedia keyboard and scroller mouse (both with PS/2 connections).
Screen, Graphics and Sound
Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) and provides up to 128 MB of shared video memory. This desktop also features the integrated Intel High Definition audio chip (Azalia), featuring THX certification and 8 channels for full Dolby 5.1/6.1/7.1 surround sound with Dolby Pro Logic IIx.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
For expansion, the s7410n has one PCI slot (occupied), one 5.25-inch external bay (occupied), and one internal 3.5-inch bay (occupied). It comes with the following external connectors:

  • 5 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players (1 in front, 4 in rear)
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 9-in-1 media card reader on the front, compatible with CompactFlash (Type I and II), MicroDrive, SmartMedia, Memory Stick/Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, Secure Digital, and XD Picture Card
  • 1 headphone
  • 1 microphone
  • 1 line-in
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (Update Rollup 2) is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. The Update Rollup 2 upgrade offers support for the Windows Media Center Extender technology built into XBox 360 game consoles, which lets you access entertainment from your Media Center PC--whether itÕs live and recorded TV and movies, music, photos or Online Spotlight--on any TV in the house.

It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works 8 (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Symantec Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition (with 60 days of LiveUpdate), PC Doctor, Encarta Encyclopedia 2005, Quicken New User Edition 2005, Microsoft Money 2005, WinDVD Player, Sonic DigitalMedia Plus, Sonic MyDVD Plus, Sonic DigitalMedia Archive, muvee AutoProducer, iTunes, and HP Photosmart Premier for digital image editing and organizing.

Dimensions and Weight
This desktop measures 9.75 x 4.4 x 13.125 (HxWxD) and weighs 14.2 pounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars So quiet and tiny!, July 2, 2006

Debcatz (Biloxi, Ms. United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP Pavilion Slimline s7410n Desktop PC (Intel Celeron M Processor 390, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Double Layer DVD+/-R/RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
I was so surprised to see the small box this CPU came in. I love the compact build of it, it's very fast and super quiet, I can't tell if it's on without looking at the light. The only thing I wish they could've given me another CD drive like I had on my old computer. But, I'm very happy with it so far, this is my 3rd HP since my first one back in 1996.

3.0 out of 5 stars What's the Catch?? Follow-up, June 16, 2006
This review is from: HP Pavilion Slimline s7410n Desktop PC (Intel Celeron M Processor 390, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, Double Layer DVD+/-R/RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
Nov 20 2007 - Upgrading to 4 STARS..In June 2006 I gave this 3 stars because I could not hook up my printer (which had a parallel cable) to the computer that only had USB ports. The end of the story...I got the newer printer that comes packaged with the computer...but the newer printer only printed about 100 pages or so before I needed a new cartridge. So I FINALLY GOT SMART and bought a USB cable that is parallel on one end, and USB on the other. It was also purchased thru Amazon, CP Technologies CP-UP-05 USB Printer Cable, for 10.99. Now I have my older HP 722C printer hooked up to the new computer, and it works beautifully. I still can't give HP 5 STARS because of their failure to bring this issue to the buyer's attention, and because they seem to manufacture products that go best with other HP products...but all in all, a very good computer! And to the person who replied "geez, are you still using parallel?"...my answer is: Most people will not abandon a perfectly good printer, especially when they find out how much less they can print with the newer, smaller cartridges. Thanks for the feedback though!
