1.0 out of 5 stars My First Notebook - Stellar!... at first... then some major problems., January 1, 2008

This review is from: HP Pavilion TX2000Z 12.1" Touch Screen TABLET NOTEBOOK LAPTOP PC (AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-68 at 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD/DVD+/-RW DL/WIRELESS/FINGERPRINT READER/ CAMERA/NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150/Windows Vista Ultimate) (Personal Computers)
Upon Opening: I received this computer three days ago. Although I will admit to being smitten with the novelty of simply having a laptop, this is amazing. The tablet feature alone blew me away. This notebook is able to convert into a "slate" and a touch-screen with an attachment allow you to write in any box (even on the internet) where input is needed.
It even recognizes cursive handwriting! I just wrote this in MY OWN WRITING!!!
Naysayers be damned, I give Windows Vista my full confidence. Period.
(I'm still using the pen to write.) Vista's usability & user-friendliness is simply astounding! This is the first computer I have ever owned that allowed me to be online within 10 minutes of startup. A gem, through & through!!

Two-year update: I have learned that the HP-Pavilion TX1000 series was built with a flaw: Instead of soldering the motherboard components with the Iron-Lead compound used in the past, HP decided that the eco-friendly option was to eliminate the lead and manufacture parts using only tin. Problem is, tin overheats easily: this overheating problem first presented itself when my computer was unable to recognize it's own WiFi hardware. Apparently, the overheating of the computer components burned out my wireless card. Next, the computer started shutting down on it's own with gaming and video usage. Later, the computer would shut itself down before start-up was even finished. I found out upon investigation that the overheating problem was burning out every part of the inside of the computer - like multi-system organ failure for computers. Unfortunately, I discovered this problem 3 months out of warranty. HP swept their problems under the rug, refused to acknowledge the faulty equipment, opted not to extend my warranty, and as a result I was forced to retire this laptop in favor of a different brand.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Pavilion TX2000Z 12.1" Touch Screen TABLET NOTEBOOK LAPTOP PC (AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-68 at 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD/DVD+/-RW DL/WIRELESS/FINGERPRINT READER/ CAMERA/NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150/Windows Vista Ultimate) (Personal Computers)
So far so good!!!

This is the first HP that I have purchased, and I'm impressed.

With a flawless touchscreen, intellegently placed Altec Lansing speakers, well-positioned fingerprint reader, efficient webcam and competent keyboard, this laptop has far exceeded my expectations from HP.

The key reason behind this is that all my friends who own an HP have reported some problem or the other with their machine. I'm lucky I guess.

The operating system is really fast, thanks to Microsoft. The 4 gigabyte RAM helps a lot too. Not to mention the state of the art AMD processor.

And about the touchscreen, it's so cool that I can rest my hand on the screen while I take notes. The double receptive functionality (finger + stylus) is great too.

All in all, a masterpiece.

Keep it up HP!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buythe TX 1000z!!!!, April 22, 2009
This review is from: HP Pavilion TX2000Z 12.1" Touch Screen TABLET NOTEBOOK LAPTOP PC (AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-68 at 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD/DVD+/-RW DL/WIRELESS/FINGERPRINT READER/ CAMERA/NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150/Windows Vista Ultimate) (Personal Computers)
You will need a motherboard in approximately 14 months; that's how long they last on the average.... Sure it will run great now but make sure that you get extended warranty coverage (upwards of a year). Your TX 1000z dissipates heat in a very poor manner: symptomatic of CPUs that have been overclocked; but the real defect lies in the motherboard. Read the reviews on cnet.com and pay special attention to those that own the laptop above a year; believe me, you won't think that this is the greatest thing since slice bread a year from now.
