Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Hit the road ready for productivity with the HP Pavilion zd7005qv notebook PC. It features a wide 15.4-inch screen, great for watching DVD movies while traveling (via the combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive), and a built-in 54g wireless connectivity to help you stay in touch with the office and home. The zd7005qv also offers a multi-format memory card reader, 2.66 GHz Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processor, 40 GB hard drive, and 512 MB of installed RAM. For a step up in price, the HP Pavilion zd7040us offers a 17-inch cinema-sized screen, faster processor, and 60 GB hard drive.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: The 40 GB (4200 RPM) hard drive offers plenty of space for most users, and is more than enough for typical data--from spreadsheets and word processing files to your digital snapshots. However, if you plan on traveling with a large multimedia library, 40 GB probably isn't enough for you.
  • Processor: The 2.66 GHz Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processor offers enough speed for your work today and into tomorrow. Thanks to its Mobile features, the processor can save power when its not needed, thus conserving battery life. It also has a 533 MHz FSB (front-side bus) and 512 KB L2 cache.
  • Memory: The installed 512 MB of RAM (2 x 256 MB, 333 MHz) is sufficient for starting out, but you'll want to add more memory power to take full advantage of the zd7005qv's multimedia capabilities (it's expandable to 2.0 GB--2 x 1024 MB).
  • CD/DVD Drive: It comes equipped with a combo DVD/CD-RW drive, which enables you to play DVD-ROM discs and DVD movies as well as burn data and record music to CD discs. It has a 16x DVD playback speed and a 40x CD write speed.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook PC's keyboard offers a scroll bar and integrated numeric keypad. The touchpad has an on/off button and dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad.
Sound and Graphics
The zd7005qv has a large 15.4-inch WXGA TFT display that has a 1280 x 1024 native resolution for video playback with a 16:9 aspect ratio. It features an NVIDIA GeForce4 Go 440 video/graphics card with 64 MB allocated video memory, which balances a good video experience with power-saving features. It offers the ability to run its native display and an external display at the same time.

It features an integrated AC'97 (Audio Codec '97) sound card that is built into the computer's main board. It offers 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio that runs through its internal Harman Kardon speakers.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The zd7005qv offers a good range of expansion and connectivity options, including a PCMCIA slot (32-bit card bus) for Type I/II PC cards and the following:

  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) ports for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • 1 parallel port for connecting older printers and scanners
  • 1 RGB monitor port
  • 1 TV-out (S-Video)
  • 1 FIR (fast infrared)
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
  • Multi-format memory card reader that's compatible with Secure Digital (SD), MultiMedia (MMC), Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, and Smaredia cards
It also has an integrated 802.11g wireless LAN (which is compatible with the more widespread 802.11b and offers faster data transmission rates), integrated 56K modem (V.92), and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
The zd7005qv comes with the Windows XP Home Edition operating system, and it also includes Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents). Other preloaded software includes Norton Antivirus 2003 (with 60 days of complimentary live updates), Quicken New User Edition, Microsoft Money, Microsoft Encarta Online Deluxe, Adobe Acrobat Reader, InterVideo WinDVD SE (for playing DVD movies), MusicMatch Jukebox, Muvee AutoProducer, and Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator (Basic).

Dimensions and Weight
At 9.3 pounds, the zd7005qv is not the lightest notebook available. It measures 1.6 x 15.6 x 11 inches (H x W x D).

Power
The included 8-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery weighs 1.4 pounds and has an approximate 2-hour battery life (during normal use). It also comes with a 120W AC adapter.

What's in the Box
This package includes the HP Pavilion zd7005qv notebook PC, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb Desktop Replacement, June 20, 2004
By
FRAZ (Islamabad, Pakistan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP Pavilion ZD7005QV Laptop (2.66 GHz Pentium M, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
This is an excellent laptop, It big screen, Full size key borard, Builtin WiFi, LAN and Modem Jack, 4 USB ports and easy to upgrade HDD and RAM Options make this machine well worth the money of around 1150$ .The Harmon/Kardon Speakers give a crisp clear sound with more bass than any other Laptop speaker I have ever heard before!. The crisp 15.4" widescreen display and Nvidia? GeForce(TM) graphics make any program look amazing, The 2.66 Ghz is enough to run any application or game flawlessly. Hp has also incorporated a media card reader which unfortunatly does not support the "compact Flash" type cards.

There are a couple of things though that should be seriously considered before buying this laptop!!!The notebook processor eats up the battery as fast as 1 hour and 30 minutes, as compared to what is claimed by HP i.e. 2 hours. The two fans on the bottom are NOT so loud and the notebook becomes very little bit hot. Due to these fans The machine should be placed on a rigid surface while its working. The maximum resolution is 1200*800 not 1024*1024 that is claimed above.

This laptop is not what you could consider "ultra portable" but it is an excellent Desktop replacement

By A Customer
This review is from: HP Pavilion ZD7005QV Laptop (2.66 GHz Pentium M, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
First thing I notice when I opened the box was the computer wasn't pentium M was just Pentium 4 that was a little bit disappointing until I turn it on, is a great machine, good software, plenty of ram, wide screen, I'm using this laptop as a desktop replacement, batery is little short live 2 hours, but worth the money. For $1299 is the best option you can get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the Product!, March 17, 2004

Out of all the notbooks I have found this one to be the best. I convienced my boyfriend that if he was to get a widescreen it was better to get one that had the numerical keypad too. I have used his notebook a bunch and I think it is great! It is a bit heavy but worth it when you get to use the widescreen!I plan to own one myself!
