Optimized for performance and mobility, the compact, lightweight HP Pavilion zt3140us notebook PC comes loaded with multimedia and productivity features. Running Intel's speedy, power-saving Centrino (Pentium M) processor, the zt3140us also features a combo DVD player/CD writer drive, Secure Digital card slot for easy transfer of digital photos, and built-in wireless LAN (802.11b). It also offers a 40 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM, and a 15.4-inch screen. For a step up in price, the HP Pavilion zt3170us offers Bluetooth wireless connectivity, a DVD writer, and larger dedicated video memory.

The Basics

• Hard Drive: The 40 GB (4200 RPM) hard drive offers plenty of space for most users, and is more than enough for typical data--from spreadsheets and word processing files to your digital snapshots. However, if you plan on traveling with a large multimedia library, 40 GB probably isn't enough for you. It also has a 1024 KB L2 cache.
• Processor: The 1.4 GHz Pentium M processor is considered at the middle of speed range compared with other Centrino notebooks (with current speed topping out at 1.7 GHz). Because of its design, the Intel Pentium M gets more done per clock tick than a Mobile Intel Pentium 4, thus providing the discrepancy in GHz measurement (i.e., 1.7 versus 3.2). The Pentium M processor is designed specifically for low-power mobile usage, and it features the latest in power-saving technologies--ensuring you push your battery and productivity to the max.
• Memory: The zt3140us comes with a 512 MB built-in memory (DDR SDRAM, 333 MHz)--a good start for power users--with a maximum memory expansion up to 2.05 GB (2 x 1024 MB).
• CD/DVD Drive: It comes equipped with a combo DVD/CD-RW drive, which enables you to play DVD-ROM discs and DVD movies as well as burn data and record music to CD discs.
• Keyboard & Mouse: The zt3140us has a 101-key keyboard and touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad.

Sound and Graphics
You'll get crisp, clear sound via the integrated 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio card. The zx5040us features internal Harman Kardon speakers.
