I did order dm4-2180us and after having memory problems with my new laptop I did notice that received dm4-2191us, it has 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, instead of 6.

Typing with this laptop is a nightmare. Although I had read the reviews about the tying issues, I still went ahead and got it thinking that it couldn't be thaaaat bad. Yes! It is that bad!!! First of all, it has a typewriter feel and secondly, before you hit send on your professional emails, first copy the text to a word editor and see all the letters it missed out!!!
Secondly, it can be crazily slow to respond to certain commands.

Oh, i just finished editing and correcting all the laptop-induced typos!!!

I've had this laptop for 26 months now. For the most part, it works well for everyday tasks like surfing the web, photos, music, etc. The whole MS Office suite works well on it. There are two major issues I have with this laptop. One, out of the box, the display looked washed out - the colors were shifted towards the cool (blue hue) side and there was no way to calibrate the display or change it to a satisfactory level. My former HP Pavilion laptop was way, way better in terms of display color. Second, this laptop does not work well when you're using anything graphics intensive such as photo editing or video streaming online sometimes - even viewing your photos can take quite a while to load. Whenever I'm photo editing with Lightroom 5, Photoscape, or Photoshop Elements, it takes several minutes to open the program and get it running. It often freezes and definitely overheats the laptop after a short time of use, anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. This was even after I upgraded the RAM and graphics card. It easily heats up and the temperature ranges from 90 to 112+ degrees F if you use anything graphics intensive for about 30 - 40 minutes. If you're easily cold like I am, it's great as a heater, though not so much in the warm months when it burns your legs. The Cool Sense technology is a joke. It didn't work well to begin with and the computer's heating problems started shortly before the warranty expired but not enough to where they would fix it. I have to use a laptop cooling fan in conjunction so the heat doesn't kill the laptop. The internal fan sounds like something's dying whenever you use the laptop for over an hour or anything graphics related. The metal/plastic frame bezel for the SD card cracked and broke after two months even though I didn't use it much at all. The fingerprint scanner is nice when it works about 75% of the time. The speakers sound really horrible - way worse than the previous HP Pavilion laptop I had. There's hardly any bass and the sound is muffled because the speakers are located beneath the laptop as opposed to being on top in the previous model. The power options don't seem to work as I set it. It seems like it gets reset randomly or the settings aren't being executed, even though I apply and save the changes. For example, it will not hibernate or sleep after designated time period.

What I like about this laptop is that it has great battery life and an HDMI port as well as VGA port. Battery life can last about 7-8 hours depending on type of usage. It's pretty close to whatever the product description was. Even after two years, the battery life still lasts 5-6 hours depending on usage and screen brightness. The battery life for previous HP Pavilion laptops was dismal (about 3-4 hours max). The different video output sources are nice and makes it easy & convenient to attach a second monitor. The computer also starts up fairly quickly, especially if you don't have too many programs that run at start up.

Would I recommend this laptop? For everyday casual use, it's works quite well. If you're going to do anything graphics related, I would go with Sony or Apple. They build more durable products in my experience but they are quite pricy. I had a Sony VAIO desktop that lasted 10+ years and was still running fine until I retired it and got this laptop. My last HP Pavilion laptop only lasted 4 years, though granted I used it extensively. Get it if it fits your need from somewhere else. I definitely would not buy it at the $900 price Amazon is listing it.

This is a great pc..it was easy to set up and I was up and running in no time...The Core i5 Intel processor gives plenty of speed and everything loads quickly. It streams movies and videos well with no lag, and loads pics easily. I bought this HP model based on the reviews here on Amazon and Consumer Reports...I have not been disappointed..I love the SimplePass fingerprint reader and the CoolSense temperature control..I hooked up a wireless printer and mouse quickly and easily. The 14" screen is plenty big enough and this notebook is easily portable with a long lasting battery..I prefer Windows 7 OS, but you can upgrade to Windows 8..While I would recommend this notebook to anyone, I think Baby Boomers, like me, would especially like this model. HP has a done a great job with this model making it very user-friendly..

I've had this laptop for 17 months now. The performance is awesome. It's quick, responsive, the perfect size and weight for carrying around with me and I couldn't be happier with the i5 processor. Unfortunately, the shell of this laptop is not what it should be. Google, Hp Pavilion DM4 hinge problem and see how many people have a problem with the left hinge of this laptop. It started about 5 months into ownership... when I would close the lid, it was off center. I had to slightly adjust the left, back side of the lid so it would close all the way and put the laptop to "sleep." After several weeks of this, it started popping and cracking when I would raise the lid. Now, the plastic frame around the screen is separating from the screen and I can see that the screen is broken behind the frame.Fortunately I bought the 2 year warranty and it will (hopefully) be repaired, but I believe this is a design flaw that will only rear its ugly head again soon. Plus, I'm now going to be without my laptop for the next 2 weeks while it's being repaired. Do better HP!

I love this laptop.. it is great for movies, music, etc. I cracked my screen within the first week of getting it and my computer guy told me that was a great quality laptop. I love it so much that I am looking to see if HP has a trade in program for the same make and model because I don't want a different one.
