5.0 out of 5 stars I really like my laptop!!
This laptop is very user friendly, and has a lot of unique capabilities. The screen is thin, and wide for a fantastic crisp looking screen display; however, the price is the biggest downfall of this product. (...)

3.0 out of 5 stars Pavilion IS for Entertainment, not work...
I've spent the last few years using Toshiba Tecra 9000 & 9100 notebook computers. Recently I decided to try a Pavilion wide screen notebook. It was SUPPOSED to have a clock speed of 3.4 Ghz, twice that of my 2001 Tecra. It didn't, comes "standard" with 1.7 gHz. Front side buss--the truer measure of how fast the computer is going to work is supposed to be 500 mHz...

5.0 out of 5 stars after one year and an OS upgrade, it's still a great laptop, July 2, 2006
This review is from: HP Pavilion dv1130us 14.0" Entertainment Laptop (Intel Celeron M Processor 360, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD+/-RW/CD-RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
I bought mind brand new in February 2005 at Staples. This computer has met my needs, and it still continues to do so. I have since upgraded the operating system to Xandros 3.0 Business Edition, and everything still works (wifi, DVD+/-RW, and winmodem all work on Xandros).

Front side buss--the truer measure of how fast the computer is going to work is supposed to be 500 mHz. Tested out at 225. My 2001 Tecra ran at 133, not that much slower. With the HyperThreading Centrino technology the HP SHOULD be a lot faster--whether word processing, doing spreadsheets or bidding on eBay (sorry, Amazon). It isn't. It DOES a good job of playing CDs or DVDs--but I have other players for those that hook up to our TV sets. Having a $1200 dvd/cd player that can run computer programs leaves ME underwhelmed. Oh, before I go: the wireless internet connection isn't too bad: I happen to have true T-3+ internet capability (54 MB/sec) with a Netgear high speed wireless router with firewall. The Tecra topped out at 8.85 mb/sec with 802.11b. the HP tops out at 45 mb/s with the firewall in place. It has the 802.11b/g. I use PC Pitstop.com and Broadbandreports.com for doing speed and bandwidth tests.
The screen is nice. It IS a bit clearer and brighter than my old laptop. It does play HD dvds nicely. The sound is noticeably better than that from my older Tecra. When using the headset--the sound is MUCH better.
Overall, I'm so "impressed" by this laptop that I'm returning it this second week of April 05, after having it about a week. Why spend $1200 on a new laptop that doesn't do much more than a 4 year old one?
