Great delivery! I ordered it on Monday and got it on Thursday evening (Super Saver shipping). The computer works great right out of the box. Print shop doesn't work with windows 7 all my other programs seem to work ok (even some old games from the mid 90's). Great speed and huge hard disc capacity. I think best for the price. Watch Amazon they seem to raise prices over the weekend and lower them during the week. I looked at the price on Wednesday the week before and went to order it on Friday, but the price went up $50, on Monday the price had dropped $40.

At a bargain price this desktop computer offers just about anything you could want from a Windows 7, fast, high capacity device. Nicely designed case with easily accessible front USB sockets in addition to the standard ones in the rear. Keyboard works well but has relatively close together and minimally sloped keys, like a laptop, which can be a challenge to conventional typists.

This is a great main frame and is works very well and does all the things I want it to do in a speedy manner. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The Windows 7 does all the things that my Windows XP did in a faster mode of 64 bits.

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, NOT able to leap tall buildings in a single bound (only because it's a stationary object)! On my desk, look: It's a bird. It's a plane. It's the HP Pavilion!
I bought this computer over three months ago because I was tired of wasting my life waiting for downloads, waiting for websites, waiting for the computer to boot up, and just waiting in general. I went to Best Buy to see what my options were. I was going to buy the Pavilion with the 8 core processor, but the sales person said for my needs, it would be like buying a Porsche to drive back and forth to the grocery store. She then drew my attention to the next best Hewlett they had at the time. It seemed to fit all my needs, plus it had a great guarantee through Best Buy. I ended up buying a Geek Squad tweaked version that allowed me to skip the tutorials. They also installed some useful software that didn't come standard and a lot of the Bloat Ware was already removed. I took it home and it was plug and play all the way! That being said, the tweaking probably affects my review and how many stars I am giving it. But, I am no longer dealing with an indefinite waiting time just to check my email. The speed is incredible and I think it will get even better when I get my new N router along with a fiber optic connection. Keep in mind. I am not a gamer that needs a super computer. I have read that certain games WILL lag on this model. I am also not ever going to create Pixar movies. I am a run of the mill user. I store music and video's, create documents, play Java based flash games, and basic things like that. Also, I got a much better deal at Best Buy (sorry Amazon). The computer, Geek Squad tweaking, and 4 year warranty that kicks in after the HP one year warranty was only $50.00 more than the computer costs on Amazon. Of course, in the little time I have owned this computer, they have come out with the next latest and greatest line, but I am totally happy with my PC Super Hero! <3

Gorgeous computer. Its onboard graphics are equivalent to a 4 year old $250 graphics card, which blows my mind. I still wanted better, so I got an ATI 4670 which lets me play Warcraft on 'Ultra' settings at 20fps. I thought it was deserving of a 21" LED monitor with 10,000,000:1 contrast, and it is beauuuuuutiful. All settings are on max and it coasts through programs without a care in the world. I think this is what they call ... love.

This is a very powerful PC, especially with 4 cores of processing power and 8 GB of RAM. The only reason it gets 4/5 stars is because the graphics card is a bit lacking. I mean, it can handle anything created 3+ years ago, and it can handle even a lot of stuff now, given it doesn't contain heavy 3D graphics (like Crysis or Bioshock). If you're not a hardcore gamer and you need a powerful general-purpose PC, then this one is for you.

Fine HP PC with Windows7,

This PC uses Windows 7, whereas my old PC used Windows XP. It was a bit of adjustment learning to work with the new version of Windows, and I'm still learning things, but eventually I'll be used to Windows 7. There seem to be more ways and paths to do the same things than previously, but while that was confusing at first, I'm becoming acclimated. Also, some of my old photo editing programs, such as Photoshop Elements 6, don't work with Windows 7.
The PC itself has more power and capacity that my previous, which was an HP Compac, and screens come up a lot more quickly. Also, happily, I can use the wide screen monitor I have to full advantage, which I couldn't before. The set-up guide instruction manual for this HP Pavilion PC is very sparse and cryptic, forcing the user to go to online instructions. However these don't tell you everything, either. For example, the new PC has a drawer near the top of the tower for all types of discs (CD's, DVD's)called "Multimedia Optical Drive." However there is another tray/drive below it called "Expansion Bay." The Expansion Bay does NOT open, and I can find no description of this drawer anywhere. I assume it's for something to be developed in the future. At this point I'm very happy with the Pavilion PC due to its high speed and capacity.

Easy to set up runs quickly,

I bought mine from Best buy for aroung $525 about a week ago. I had an older Dell that moved way too slow. I had a Clickfree back up and restored everything save in my old to this computer in mabey 15 minutes. It was very quick. I loaded up some microsoft office and it didn't take longer either. The easy of setting this one and getting my old info on it was wonderfull. No headaches and yelling. I would definatly recommend this. The speed is great. I do play Mafia on facebook and it moves very quickly on that game. My internet connection is wireless cable modem and I've had no issues with that. I do have a lexmark printer wireless right about the cable modem and it refuses to work wireless so that's my one issue with this set up. Guess that's a Lexmark complaint. Those Target weekly specials for fifty and sixty bucks are worth a flip. Overral good buy.

Very happy with this new desktop. It's been a while since I've owned a desktop, opting for laptops instead, but this one is fast and easy to use.

Serious defects,
This review is from: HP Pavilion p6540f Magnesium Grey Edition PC (Personal Computers)
This computer has two serious problems. The first is that it produces loud clicks on the audio output whenever it goes in and out of sleep mode. The second is that it its onboard VGA output is unusably blurry.
Of course if you don't use the VGA output (or plan to purchase a separate video card) and you don't mind the loud clicks, it seems like a pretty decent PC. Other hardware weaknesses are the fan is relatively loud, and the case is relatively flimsy and requires a screw driver to open. Par for the course for most entry level PCs. Of course like most retail PCs it comes pre-installed with dozens of relatively annoying things that you probably will never need and which will take some work to disable. And you probably have to live with the hyper cute Windows 7 home edition "features" like user pictures that can't be turned off, and which appear obnoxiously at the top of the start menu. |
