Have had my HP P7-1240 for a few weeks now. Got it at $549 and see it's already $599 now! This sucker is fast. I work in IT and it's at least 3X as fast as my PC at the office. Wish there were more than 2 USB ports facing forward (only 2 USB 3.0) but it has plenty in the rear. When asleep, it wakes easily with a light touch of the power button and is ready almost instantly. Added a 2nd hard drive from my old PC and was a little disappointed that while there was the ability to add another drive, they hadn't provided the SATA cable internally for it. The wireless connection works great, speed tested great but use Ethernet since it's right beside my router. Have not used the Bluetooth capability yet. The video seems fast and smooth and runs my RC flight simulator program very well with smooth, fast video. The video uses it's on-board memory as well as reserving 2-4GB of the 10GB PC video which must help with the speed. The USB keyboard has some audio control buttons and has a decent tactile feel to it and the optical USB mouse works well for everything I do. The DVD player is a little loud (spinning noise) if you leave a disc in that you're not using it seems to spin it (loudly) for a while after booting. Overall very happy with mine so far. I looked around a while and when I got it at $549, it seemed like one of the better deals out there for a quad core, 10GB machine with 1TB HD and decent video card. This is my 3rd HP home system and no major issues with any of them so far.
I received this system in the mail about a week ago. So far I am really impressed with AMD's trinity processor... I've mostly just done browsing and some gaming. I'm able to run ARMA 2 and DayZ at very high settings with no performance or framerate issues. I've also seen videos on youtube of laptops utilizing this processor playing games such as Skyrim and Battlefield 3 so it is certainly capable of running modern games. I've only had this PC for a short while so I can't comment about much else about it. It is very quiet though. Noise is minimal even when running a cpu-intensive game like DayZ. All in all it's a good entry-level PC for gaming and anything else I can imagine doing, especially if you aren't up for the hassle of building your own computer. Hope this helps.
Out of the box, this desktop is incredibly fast. Nothing cheap about this computer. Great speed....performs well with demanding games in terms of video and audio. The price has gone up...wait for it to go back down to the five hundred mark. Even at six hundred, this computer is worth every penny. You cannot build this computer yourself this cheap. Keyboard is nice to type on....has a nice feel to the buttons...not a cheap feel as with some computer keyboards. Buy this computer...you will not regret it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Update 8/23/2012 I have been watching television on the internet such as Falling Skies and this evening I viewed one of my favorite shows which has started it's second season...Grim!!! Watching shows on the internet on this computer is like watching them on my Panny Plasma over the air in HD. This computer is downright fast and can handle the demands of internet streaming in HD like a pro!!!!
We bought this computer to upgrade from an aging laptop. My wife primarily uses the computer to run Photoshop, which was really dragging on the old computer. The speed increase is amazing and she's saving hours of processing time from what it had been taking. We've been happy with everything in the three or four weeks we've had it. I'd definitely recommend it.
Rita, my main squeeze, purchased a slightly lesser HP model (She's delighted.) while I had been shopping for a PC replacement. I considered hers but decided to go a little higher to do some 'Future Proofing'. After researching what I could about the components, I then explored the systems reviews. (Thanks to my predecessors.) I was lead to believe that this would make an excellent replacement for my hard-drive crashed four year old model.
Pros-Performance for my casual use is more than adequate. I have had no issues as to this. The memory is capacious. The processor races along. Compatibilty has been fine with my Samsung 27" TV, Creative Labs speakers, Logi-Tech mouse/Keyboard, Brother printer and W-D hard-drive (USB 3.0) back up with a lone exception.
Cons-My internet is slower than what the ISP is paid for. It appears to be related to the signal strength. I have not been able to switch from the internal wi-fi to an external source. Wiring is impossible at this location. I have Netgear antennas which go unrecognized by the system even after doing a disc installation procedure. My old ZT system used these and it hummed, this tends to haw with the internal half-board.
I went to the HP site's board requesting e-help and have not yet gotten notification as to what I can do. (Live people are awfully difficult to find.) I am familiar with the regular fixes but I can not easily move the PC or transmitter. I may go with a stronger base unit and it should rectify this. You can not augment the PC's receptivity and my base is not replacement antenna friendly.
Conclusion- Great performance and capacity, slightly offset by inability to swap wireless inputs. I suspect the latter is MY problem and would not be yours. I would recommend this to a friend. I also got a substantial discount at Office Max $500 on sale which eases my concern.
