5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Notebook
Setup was very easy. The display is crystal clear and the sound is awesome (it's got Altec Lansing speakers built in). Was stuck between this and the Toshiba S301, but finally opted for this because of higher memory (512 MB DDR SDRAM Vs Toshiba's 256 MB SDRAM), better software, easy navigation keys and light weight. This one got more points for the looks as well. It does...

3.0 out of 5 stars In the Middle
I got this computer for christmas. i am in high school, and we are required to have them for school. the computer is good in that it is nice looking, a good size (i hate those thin computers) it has a built in dvd/cd-rw, and a 40GB hard drive. i do however have a few complaints. first of all, no built in wireless, only two of the shortcut buttons at the top work. and the...

The higher memory has a clear advantage when running multiple applications (browsing + watching a movie).

This is an all in one system. Ideal for those looking for a notebook with connectivity for Video editing and TV out. The generous helping of RAM ensures that this notebook is capable of multitasking effortlessly. The huge hard disk is suited for downloading home movies from digital video cameras. All in all this is a bang for the buck system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Work Horse of a computer!!!, June 2, 2010
This review is from: HP Pavilion ze5155 Laptop (1.8 GHz Pentium 4, 512MB RAM, 40GB hard drive) (Personal Computers)
This was a great computer! Everybody complains about the fans but this is why it was so dependable and lasts so long without any problems. Someone recently stole it from my home. I had wondows xp pro installed and a wireless card. I miss it terribly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Abridged too far, April 26, 2008

This was the HP laptop that was supposed to be the end all to be-all. It tries hard- three USB ports (alas, not USB 2.0) Firewire 1394 for video camera connections, DVD player, Altec Lansing speakers, "quick function" buttons, Windows XP Home, etc.

Alas, this unit is extremely heat challenged. It is equipped with TWO internal fan units, and after about an hour of solid use, the second fan will be screaming... only to evntually result in the inevitable BSOD.

While XP home was much improved over the WindowsME OS that was inhabiting earlier HP model ranges, this is the first notebook- HP or otherwise- that I have ever owned that consistently and routinely offered up a BSOD- at least once a day. OS reloads, BIOS upgrades, you name it... no improvement.

The battery life is terrible, at just under 2 hours.

I do owe this unit some measure of thanks. The inconsistent performance eventually led me to purchase the first of three Mac's....

If you can find this unit for cheap, buy it. Otherwise, pass. Low end models from Toshiba are probably a better bet.
