Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Sporting wireless communication, a very powerful processor and more than enough memory to efficiently handle any multitasking assignment, the HP Pavilion ze5490us is a superb business notebook computer. Those who often delve into 3-D visuals may want to upgrade its graphics capabilities, but the system is otherwise a capable and versatile unit that knows few limitations.

Driven by a 2.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor and a stunning alloent of 1024 MB main memory (double that of most similarly priced notebooks), the Pavilion ze5490us sports enough raw power for virtually any typical notebook or desktop task. It is not, however, a true gamer's machine. Featuring an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics card with 64 MB video memory, the unit will competently display low-end to midlevel 3-D animation but simply doesn't have enough graphic oomph for today's hottest state-of-the-art games.

The Pavilion ze5490us features a massive 80 GB hard disk on which to store your files and a burgeoning multimedia library, and a DVD-RW drive through which you can burn and play audio CDs, archive files, watch the latest DVD movies and write files and videos to long-lasting DVD format. The unit's 15-inch XGA TFT display will convey crisp, clean images to a maximum 1024 by 768 resolution, and its 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio chipset and integrated Altec-Lansing speakers deliver satisfying mobile sound.

Controlling the Pavilion ze5490us is a snap. The unit features a full-size 88-key keyboard with embedded numeric keypad, a Touch Pad with on/off button, and a dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad. Other amenities include three high-speed USB 2.0 ports for plug and play peripherals, an IEEE 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for fast data streaming to and from digital camcorders), VGA and TV outs, and infrared technology for convenient cordless interaction with infrared-equipped gadgets such as PDAs and printers. E-communication options include a 56K modem for low-speed dial-up access, 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN for fast networking, and 802.11g capable wireless LAN for those times when you just can't plug in.

The impressive software bundle features Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition operating system, Corel's Productivity Pack business suite, Intuit's Quicken New Users Edition financial center, and an assorent of multimedia utilities. At 12.96 by 10.72 by 1.93 inches at 7.5 pounds, the unit is of average size.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!! It does everything!, August 2, 2004
This review is from: HP Pavilion ze5490us Laptop (2.80-GHz Pentium 4, 1024 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) (Personal Computers)
There's nothing I don't like about this laptop so far (I've had it for a month). It's fast, it's got a huge HD, lots of nice features, it's easy to use, big display... I could go on but it would just be more of the same. I would say it's definitely worth the money.
