Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Offering versatility and mobility, the HP Pavilion ze5620us notebook PC makes a good choice for students and home office workers looking for a powerful yet affordable laptop solution. The ze5620us features 2.8 GHz Intel Celeron processor, 60 GB of storage, a built-in 512 MB memory, integrated wireless LAN (802.11g), and a combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive that enables you to play movies on the road as well as quickly save data to CD discs.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: Though not world-beating in size, the 60 GB enhanced-IDE hard drive (4200 RPM) offers more than enough storage capacity for road warriors.
  • Processor: The 2.80 GHz Intel Celeron processor offers fast and affordable performance which is perfect for everyday computing tasks--from making entries in Quicken to word processing to editing home digital video movies. It also has a 400 MHz FSB (front-side bus) speed.
  • Memory: The ze5620us comes with a 512 MB built-in memory (2 x 256 MB DDR SDRAM, 266 MHz)--a good start for power users--with a maximum memory expansion up to 1 GB (2 x 512 MB). It also has an L2 cache of 128 KB.
  • CD/DVD Drive: It comes equipped with a combo DVD/CD-RW drive, which enables you to play DVD-ROM discs and DVD movies as well as burn data and record music to CD discs.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: The ze5620us has a full-sized 85-key keyboard with 12 function keys and two-button touchpad.
Sound and Graphics
The ze5620us features an integrated AC'97 (Audio Codec '97) sound card--producing 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio--that is built into the computer's main board. This notebook is outfitted with internal Altec Lansing speakers.

The video/graphics card--ATI Mobility Radeon 4X AGP--offers 3-D architecture and can easily drive an external monitor. If you plan on working with professional design or graphics software, you'll want to consider upgrading this video/graphics card. The 15-inch XGA TFT screen has a native resolution of 1024 x 768.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
You get a decent amount of connectivity options with the ze5620us, including high-speed USB 2.0:

  • 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 parallel port for connecting older printers and scanners
  • 1 RGB monitor port
  • 1 TV-out (S-Video)
  • 1 PS/2 port for connecting keyboard or mouse
  • 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II 16-bit with support and 32-bit card bus)
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
It also has an integrated 802.11g wireless LAN (which is compatible with the more widespread 802.11b and offers faster data transmission rates), integrated 56K modem (V.92), and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
The ze5620us comes with the Windows XP Home Edition operating system, and it also features Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents). Other preloaded software includes Norton Antivirus 2003 (with 60 days of complimentary live updates), Quicken, Microsoft Money, Microsoft Encarta Online Deluxe, Adobe Acrobat Reader, InterVideo WinDVD SE (for playing DVD movies), MusicMatch Jukebox, and Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator (Basic).

Dimensions and Weight
The ze5620us notebook measures 12.96 x 10.72 x 1.79 inches (L x W x H) and weighs a comfortable 7.5 pounds.

Power
The included rechargeable lithium-ion battery has 8 cells (which refers to the number of charge-storing components within the battery) and offers a standard amount of power for a notebook PC (around 2 hours of typical use).

What's in the Box
This package includes the HP Pavilion ze5620us notebook PC, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions.

1.0 out of 5 stars BE CAREFUL ! ! ZE5620US is not the computer described here., March 6, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Pavilion ze5620us Laptop (2.8 GHz Celeron Processor, 512 MB, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD CD-RW Combo Drive) (Personal Computers)
I Bought a ZE5620US on February, and after have a lot of problems with the technical data available on site, i received a notebook with only 256mb of RAM, and Amazon's said : "Sorry, but your sole remedy is return the product and get your cash back"

The described notebook is in fact ZX5040US..
Amazon is able to delete my review, every day, but is unable to correct the technical data . . .

And now, i have a Celeron with just 256Mb of RAM . .
The notebook performance is terrible with so little memory . .
I will have to expend more 60 dollars to buy the missing module.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice system for the price, October 23, 2005

This review is from: HP Pavilion ze5620us Laptop (2.8 GHz Celeron Processor, 512 MB, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD CD-RW Combo Drive) (Personal Computers)
I have had my system for over a year and it has been very reliable -- to keep the system speed up, I added more memory and clean the system -- reinstall the operating system ever 6 months -- it's all the extra programs a person adds over time that slow ANY computer down.

The battery last about 1.5 hours and still keeps a charge

I like the restart aspect of the system

Wireless works 100% of the time -- I take the unit out on my deck about 100 feet and it still picks up well

This review is from: HP Pavilion ze5620us Laptop (2.8 GHz Celeron Processor, 512 MB, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD CD-RW Combo Drive) (Personal Computers)
I bought this computer new becasue I was having some problems with my old Dell and was tierd of problems (it crashed, slow, etc.- signs of age, it was 4 years old). I have had nothing but troubles from this unit. I tried taking it back to Staples but they would not take it because I did not have the original box.

HP was my only hope. It was a nightmare. After being transfered to, literally, to 9 different people and having to give the same story every single time I was livid - I gave up. After a few day cooling off period. It took only 3 transfers the next time to get someone. I ask that they take it back and fix it. They would not, according to their policy, until they had tried to "fix" it over the phone.

It took 5 hours on the phone with their tech. support to format and restore the unit. The tech. support folk were very understand and nice but the fact is a computer should work right out of the box or it should be replaced no questions asked. When you spend over $1000 for anything is should work.

Working with Staples and HP has been one of the most frustrating experience in my life. I will never buy an HP product again nor will it buy anything from Staples.
