What is Centrino? It's an Intel-developed technology built upon a triad of three interconnected elements -- an Intel Pentium M CPU (with 1 full GB of Level 2 cache), an Intel 855 chipset, and a cord-free network connection -- that work hand-in-hand to keep your notebook lightweight, wirelessly connected, power efficient, and faster than its rated CPU speed might indicate. The power section of the Pavilion zt3010us includes a 1.5 GHz Pentium M processor, 512 MB of DDR SDRAM (expandable to a whopping 2 GB), and a surprisingly capable ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics chipset with 32 MB dedicated video memory. Though the unit can't be recommended for high-end 3-D design and 3-D games, it will handle most everything else.
Measuring 14 by 10 by 1.3 inches and tipping the scales at 6.5 pounds, the Pavilion zt3010us is smaller and more lightweight than most notebooks but is not as compact as many other Centrino-based units. Underneath the hood, you'll find such amenities as an oversized 15.4-inch widescreen display capable of crystal clear 1280 by 800 resolution, a pair of Harman-Kardon speakers, an 88-key keyboard with touch pad and dedicated scroll pad, and a variety of convenient one-touch controls. For your data storage and handling requirements, HP has enclosed a large 60 GB hard disk and a versatile DVD+R/RW/CD-RW combo drive through which you can archive files, record and listen to audio CDs, watch DVD movies and burn your own DVDs.
The Pavilion zt3010us features a variety of state-of-the-art connectivity options, including three high-speed USB 2.0 ports for plug and play peripherals such as scanners and joysticks, a single IEEE 1394 FireWire port for fast interaction with devices such as digital camcorders, an Intel Pro-Wireless 2100 802.11b integrated wireless LAN, a 10-/100-Mbps Ethernet wired LAN, and a low-speed 56K modem. Bundled software includes Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Money, Quicken New User Edition, and Intervideo's WinDVD Creator.

Awesome notebook,

This review is from: HP Pavilion zt3010us Laptop (1.50-GHz Pentium M (Centrino), 512 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD+R/RW/CD-RW Combo Drive) (Personal Computers)
I just recieve this notebook which I had custom ordered from the Hp web site and I would like to say this is one attractive notebook. It is like the 7000 series for those of us who want a big notebook that we can travel with. It has a big beautiful screen, it's fast, thin and light weight, very quiet stays cool with a long lasting battery. I orginally wanted the compaq version until I saw this one which is much better looking with the same features. I think it cost a little more because it is an Hp. I love this notebook and I highly recommend it.

Great notebook with a few minor drawbacks,

This review is from: HP Pavilion zt3010us Laptop (1.50-GHz Pentium M (Centrino), 512 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD+R/RW/CD-RW Combo Drive) (Personal Computers)
I had been looking to replace my desktop with a laptop since the introduction of wide screen multimedia laptops in the past few years. I work with graphics and develop websites and I wanted a laptop that had to have a nice screen to create and edit vector graphics and photos. I also wanted one with a long battery life for those long trips by jet and train, and I didn't want a laptop that was going to break my back carrying it around. The zt3010US has performed admirably since I purchased it just before Christmas. The battery has been good for up to two plus hours; the 15.4 inch screen is beautiful and does a great job with Photoshop CS and Macromedia Studio MX 2004 as well as playing ocassional DVDs. I often have several large applications running at the same time, like Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop and Outlook Express, and the 1.5 Centrino processor and 512 RAM handles its well. The laptop also weighs in at a respectible 6.5 pounds, and with the power supply, Orinoco Silver wireless card (more on that later) and a Cat 5 cable, the total package weighs in at just under 10 pounds, making it bearable for lunging around to client visits and between my home and office. The only things that keep me from giving this laptop five stars is the built-in Intel Pro 2100 Wireless PCI adapter and the poor software bundle. As another reviewer pointed out, the wireless card can be flaky. I have tried configuring it with both the Intel drivers and the wireless software built-in to Windows XP and it keeps dropping connections. I have called HP support on this issue and they don't have a clue about how to fix it. Fortunately, I have an Orinoco Silver 801.11b card from my previous laptop and it works great with the zt3010US. As for the software bundle, the programs that come with the zt3010us are the worst I have ever encountered. Starting with Microsoft Works 7.0 to the standard and OEM versions of Microsoft Money, Quicken, and Roxio EZ Creator 6, I found each one to be worthless and have removed them. The only good program was the Norton Antivirus 2004, which is a 60 day trial version! Fortunately, most folks don't purchase computers for the software bundles. But overall, this is a great laptop. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a powerful machine that can create graphics and is light enough to carry around all day.

...well at least your nerd friends. I got this notebook for Christmas and so far my husband and I are both pretty impressed. The screen is beautiful which you will really appreciate when watching DVDs. We were torn originally between this model (ZT3010US) and the desktop replacement model ZD7010US which has the P4. We chose this one because the battery life is longer, it runs cooler, it's lighter and thinner. So far, the performance is great. I doubt I would notice the extra grunt of the P4 but I'm sure I would notice the extra weight! I use it to play online games, run AutoCAD and Photoshop and all the usual Windoze stuff. For some reason, we have a problem with the built-in wireless B working with our network. I'm using a Linksys wireless G card instead, which 80% of the time works great. It can be periodically flaky which is my only complaint. I also really like the touch pad with built-in scroll. This was something I found extremely frustrating to use on an IBM Thinkpad and even some Sony notebooks. The 3 USB ports are also quite handy. The DVD burner is also a bonus.Overall, we're very happy with our purchase and I think it's a well-rounded machine for those of us who use our computers for more than just MS Office and email.
