Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The mid-size HP Pavilion zv6130us is a great desktop replacement, adding mobility to its powerful multimedia and home office computing features. The widescreen 15.4-inch Brightview display is perfect for watching DVD movies, as well as keeping you productive across several open document and software windows. It's powered by a strong and nimble 2.0 GHz AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor, with a front-side bus speed of up to 2000 MHz. Other features include an 80 GB hard drive, 512 MB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), multi-format DVD/CD burner with dual layer support, ATI Radeon XPress 200M video card with 128 MB of dedicated video RAM, 54g wireless connectivity with 125HSM/SpeedBooster support, and 6-in-1 memory card reader that's compatible with a wide range of popular formats.

The Basics

  • Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is a bit above average in size for notebook PCs. It offers more than enough capacity for storing documents and productivity software for road warriors. You'll also be able to store a good-sized digital audio library.
  • Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 3200+ processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. This 2.0 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MHz and 512 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Cool'n'Quiet Technology that conserves power while also keeping the PC nicely quiet.
  • Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory (DDR SDRAM) is fine for basic productivity and multimedia software, and it offers what's becoming an average RAM speed (333 MHz). It has two memory slots in total, with a maximum memory expansion up to 2 GB (2 x 1024 MB).
  • CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, this multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 16x DVD+R, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD+/-RW, 2.4x DVD+R DL, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CDR, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM ROM speeds.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 101-key keyboard and two-button touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical scroll up/down pad.
Screen, Graphics and Sound
The 15.4-inch WXGA high-definition BrightView widescreen display has a 1280 x 800-pixel resolution. You'll get TV-quality images, even in direct sunlight. Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3D graphics. It also offers 128 MB of dedicated video RAM. ATI's HyperMemory technology allows the chipset to run in either Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) mode or with dedicated frame buffer memory to enhance graphics performance.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The zv6130us has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. The 125 HSM/SpeedBooster support will enable it to be ready for tomorrow's 125 Mbps wireless LANs and the BroadRange support provides your 802.11g connection up to 50 percent more range than competing technologies. You get a decent offering of connectivity options, which does include super-fast USB 2.0 and Firewire:

  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
  • 1 VGA monitor port
  • 1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
  • 1 PCMCIA (or PC Card) slot (Type I/II, 32-bit)
  • 1 ExpressCard/54 Slot (also supports ExpressCard/34)
  • 1 headphone jack and 1 microphone jack
  • 1 notebook expansion port
  • 1 IR receiver
  • 6-in-1 Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Sticks, Memory Stick Pro, SmartMedia, and XD Picture Cards
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Preloaded System and Software
This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 operating system with Advanced Security Technologies, which helps to reduce unwanted downloads and pop-ups while surfing the Web. It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Norton Internet Security 2005 (with 60 days of complimentary updates), Microsoft Works, Microsoft Money 2005, MSN Encarta Plus, Sonic Digital Media Studio, Apple iTunes, Intervideo WinDVD, and MuVee Autoproducer.

The included HP Image Zone Plus photo and imaging software makes it easy to organize, edit, share, print, protect, and store your photos and video clips. Organize and find your photos easily by timeline, keywords, and/or location using the unique photo-globe mapping tool. Remove red eye and fix other common problems. Share your photos quickly via e-mails that include thumbnails with links to the full-sized images--without downloading time-consuming attachments.

Dimensions and Weight
Best used as a replacement for your desktop PC, this notebook weighs 8 pounds. It measures 11.18 x 14.25 x 1.8 inches (LxWxH).

Power
This notebook is powered by a 8-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which offers an average of 2.5 hours of battery life (dependent upon computing conditions).

What's in the Box
This package contains the zv6130us notebook PC, rechargeable lithium-ion battery, AC adapter, and operating instructions. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great notebook, good battery life, plays games pretty well, November 9, 2005
This review is from: HP Pavilion zv6130us 15.4" Laptop (AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD+/-R/RW and CD-RW Combo Drive) (Personal Computers)
I've found this to be a great notebook. It's completely replaced my desktop for work and for play, except for the most intensive 3D games.

Pros:

Easily fits in my normal sized backpack.

Very nice and bright display.

Great audio quality compared to most notebooks I've tried.

Resumes quickly from standby and hibernation, even with upgraded RAM.

Touchpad can be easily disabled, handy in cases where your wrist may brush against it while typing.

Very reasonably priced.

Quiet, except for when the CDROM spins at full speed.

Cons:

Comes with two 256MB sticks. One is under the keyboard and requires significant work to get out. Documentation on the process is poor.

Pricing is hidden on Amazon, without going through hoops.

4.0 out of 5 stars Six Months Out, April 29, 2006

Matthew C. Arnold "Matt" (Hattiesburg, MS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP Pavilion zv6130us 15.4" Laptop (AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD+/-R/RW and CD-RW Combo Drive) (Personal Computers)
I'm a full time student and working professional. Six months after plopping down the full retail value for this box, here's the pros, and here's the kinks:

Pros-

Great screen. No dull spots. Does video and even some high end games really well. Sometimes we just put it on top of the TV and watch videos straight off the box.

Sound system rocks. I've completely abandoned any portable speakers. There's no need. It will fill a room by itself. The bass is low in these circumstances, but I mean, it works.

Keyboard and layout works well. Sometimes you accidentally brush the touch pad, but you can turn it off with a thumb. You don't even have to stop the keystrokes.

Processing capability turns back flips. I do media editing on it regularly. Handles Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver like a pro.

The wireless assistant is probably the best stock wireless searching program ever. This is probably on all the new XP installs, but it's worth talking about.

It looks really cool and it fits everywhere.

Side mounted everything is really convenient. My brother got a Gateway at about the same time and is really jealous of those.

Cons:

It's a chunk. This sucker gets heavy hauling it around all day.

The trim along the lower right corner busted off about three weeks after I got it.

It's loud. Almost too loud to use in class. Also, the CD drive rattles.

I've gotten several CD's stuck in mine.

The batteries are crap. Even on max battery, I only got about 2 hours battery life.

It gets too hot. Sometimes it even shuts down. It straight up needs more heat sinks.

The harddrive is slow and it slows down the rest of the machine when you're hitting it hard.

It's too big to use on an airplane.

The sticky keys function annoys me sometimes.

Overall:

Ass kicking box. Great value, great performance. I don't see how you could be disappointed. The core components of the system are all first rate.

Lets start with the pro's

Pro's

Fast(after bootup)

Cheap!!!

Stable

Every feature on a desktop is on this!

ITS AN AMD!

Now to the not so great stuff!

Slow Boot(takes 5 mins, onces it up its great thought)

The HD slows the rest down(thats right ur AMD 64 and ram will be slower then most computers with the same specs because of the slow RPM's{only 4200} of the hard drive!

The Ati graphics card suxs!(It makes intergraded graphics look good)

Display isnt as good as most LCD's
