As this is my first laptop, I wanted it to be at least as up to snuff tech wise as my aging 1.8 pent Dimension 8200 (this desktop was a higher end dell several years ago). So this 2.2 AMD seeems slightly faster than my desktop (which also has 1/2 the memory-takes SUPER expensive RDRAM if you can find the right type).

I have had no problems out of the box, I was able to wirelessly network this thru a router and communicate with my desktop to access files. The machine has a good balance in your lap , when you actually have the large widescreen LCD display up it doesnt want to tilt forward at all.

Suprisingly, the machine runs pretty cool. The fans do sometimes run at high speed, but normally they are pretty quiet. Performance is splendid with DVD movies, and I am pretty impressed by the littly puny speakers, they actually manage not to sound, well, too puny. I suspect that there is some kind of DSP or EQ going on here that is pretty effective. The logo says ALTEC LANSING, which is a name "audio heads" will be familiar with, so I suppose they're on to something here. The LCD panel is well detailed and free of motion artifacts, and provides a very stable image. The normal horizontally limited viewing range is typical of LCD panels. Nice Machine, very up to date styling but not obnoxiously so. Recommended

This is my second laptop. The first one was a Toshiba with a 17" screen, but I discovered that it wasn't very "portable". This new laptop is not only half the price of my first one, but works so well. First of all, it is superfast with the Athlon processor and the 1.24 Giba of Ram and it includes the double layer DVD drive for DVDR and DVDRW. Besides, the screen is very clear and I'm really happy with this purchase.

I purchased this laptop on January 6th 2006 and was told it would ship within one -two business days.......Here we are on the 23rd of January and it still hasn't shipped. BUT, it gets better. Not only have I waited this long for it to ship, but I am being told that I cannot cancel this order either since its "so far along in the shipping status"............DONT BUY IT
