The big let down,
By
This review is from: HP PhotoSmart 7450 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I had this printer just short of 1 yr and I loved it. Totally loved it! It began saying the paper was jammed as it would only take the paper in half way. I worked with HP on this for a long while when they sent me a "refurbished printer" to replace mine. I was happy for 2 1/2 months. Then this new printer began doing EXACTLY the same thing - it alternates between paper jammed and cartridges stuck!. I contacted HP again but this time my warranty is up as they only honor the original purchase date, not the replacement. So, I'm stuck with quite a few ink cartridges (2 of each) and no printer. I am hesitating buying another HP but what other printer is out there ??????? I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRINTER AS I BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OF IT AND THEN THE CUSTOMER IS STUCK!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP PhotoSmart 7450 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
Just received this printer today and I could not be happier with the photo quality. I have just printed approximately 10 5x7's, and about the same number of 4x6's prints. The only mess up was caused by me. I am only using the best quality photo print and I am very pleased with the outcome. I can't wait to see the maximum dpi photo.Very good price on the printer and quick shipping. Speed is not the fastest however I was using an HP 720c so it beats that speed so I am pleased. If you are looking for a photo quality printer that does not cost too much, this is the one. Update March 15, 2007. Printer is malfunctioning. It will spit out two blanks pieces of paper, print the page I asked it to, then it continues to spit out paper until the tray is empty or the paper jams. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and that has not helped. I also used the HP web site to troubleshoot the printer and those procedures have not corrected the problem. I believe this printer is very cheaply made and a guess a year and 3 months is all I will get out of it. Update: 3-24-07. I just threw it away, it had parts falling out of it and it no longer functions.

Easy to use. Prints beautiful photos,

I found this photo printer easy to set up and use. The driver installed on my PC in a few minutes and I was up and running. My digital camera uses SD memory and this printer accepts the memory cards for printing photos. One time I selected the wrong photo and it was easy to cancel the print job by hitting the print cancel button on the printer. I have printed photos and even used the black text to print memos and Excel spreadsheets. I really can't believe how much this printer does for such a low price. Highly recommended. If you print with HP's recommended paper you get brilliant photo prints. I tried a 4x6 photo and it came out looking great. Only downside.....this printer does not have a LCD photo preview screen on the printer. If you want to preview your photos you can do so on your PC or camera before printing. Some printers like the HP PhotoSmart 8150 have a photo preview screen which would be nice to have. All things considered, the HP 7450 is a great buy.

Ink Problem,

Great print quality. But the problem is that HP doesn't do a very good job of letting you know how much ink is left in the cartridge, and you end up wasting a lot of ink. Given what they charge, this is irresponsible.

I had and HP 5150 for about a year and the it stop recognizing the catdriges so I went and buy this one... is the worst investment I could ever do, I use it a lot less than the one before and after a couple of months when I try to print something it says that "the printer cradle is stuck" or "paper jam on the printer".Whats going on whit HP? Selling garbage printers now.

Very Good Quality But high ink consume,

The quality of this printer it's very good, it prints very reality photos, as if they were printed on a professional laboratory. It really surprised me. The only problem it that the ink goes fast in the best quality mode so you'll need to replace them very often.

My HP Photosmart began to fail soon after I bought it:1. They had me reinstall the HP drivers and support software (every time I called). 2. They told me not to use the spooler. 3. They had me remove all other installed programs, very time consuming. 4. They had me remove 30 gigabytes of data to CD to free more space on the drive (as if 20GB free was not enough), VERY time consuming. 5. They had me triple the size of virtual memory. 6. They had had me reinstall everything, very time consuming. 7. They had me replace the usb cable, $$. 8. They had me update my usb driver (that definitly would fix it, a known incompatiblility with some usb cards and HP products), very time consuming to find I had the latest usb driver. 9. They had me replace the USB card, $$$$. The new Adaptec usb card I bought says that the printer is not working properly!!! No kidding... 10. Technical support says my printer is broke (the cache or something). They had me fax the my sales receipt for the printer to receive a replacement. I faxed them my receipt... HP say they did not receive it. The next week the store manager faxed them my receipt... HP say they did not receive it. Again the receipt is faxed to them, again to the same number. Finally they got the receipt, HP told me on the phone and HP emailed me that they got the faxed receipt and updated my warrenty status. HP Technical support say they don't have the faxed receipt and can not help me. Week after week they do and they don't and they can't. Several times they promised that a case manager would call within 12-24 hours. No calls, no help. They did offer me a complementary ink cartidge for the non-working printer to settle this, "no?, well a case manager will call you in 12-24 hours". They have my correct phone number. Now the case manager is on vacation or something and only the original case manager can do anything. I have paid more for usb cables and cards than I paid for the printer. If time were money, I could have bought a color lazer printer for less. It has been several months now. It seems that the warranty is worthless. I posted the above and my warranty is suddenly good, I got a reconditioned printer (not why I posted the above). I withdrew the post. The reconditioned printer worked for a few months (paper jams and cradle stuck errors exactly every second sheet), but my warranty ended and the starting cost for a phone support call is $30, but they will sell me another reconditioned 7450 for almost twice what I bought my new 7450 for. If you can buy one for the price of ink go ahead but don't spend more than that. It is not that good, unreliable, unsupported, time consuming, expensive, heart breaking. Nothing to do but toss Photosmart into the dumpster (in pieces to save some poor dumpster diver from this junk).

This is an excellent printer when it works. I have had four of them so far. #1 was DOA. #2 worked for a while. #3 was DOA. #4 is doing a good job.

High Quality Expensive Prints at Dial-Up Speed,
By
This review is from: HP PhotoSmart 7450 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
Upon purchasing my first photo printer I wasn't really sure what to expect out of the HPPhotosmart 7450, but overall I'm pretty satisfied.Appearance: Not the sleekest piece of technology but for the price not too bad.(no color screen or LCD) Ink: Slightly pricey and I barely scraped 100 fine quality 4x6 photos with the ink running low for the last few. Paper: Happened to find some good deals online but more expensive than paper should be. Prints: Was shocked how perfect and crisp my pictures came out with the 6 ink technology! Except I can't quite figure out how to print without an ugly white tab along side of the picture :(. Software: Great red eye reduction! It's a'ight but honestly it takes up alot of memory and slows down my computer. Printer Setup: Can't really complain, just make sure you don't load the picture paper until after you have configured the allignment! Speed: Have never used a photo printer of this type before so I can't really say how slow it is but it reminds me of the dial up days. If you're looking to print more than 5 photos at a time seriously this is not the printer for you.

HP PhotoSmart 7450 Inkjet Printer,
By Brian Reynolds "true believer" (Northern Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP PhotoSmart 7450 Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I had always been told that HP printers were the best inkjet units on the market and after my experience with this PhotoSmart 7450 I am now a true believer. There is simply no comparison between this printer and the Canons, Epson, and Lexmark units I had previously owned. This thing spits out color prints 5 or 6 times faster and with at least twice the print quality of any of my former units. The only fault I can find with it involves the cost of the ink cartridges. I really like the memory card reader built in the front of the printer also. I have not had a chance to print any photos with it yet, but with the quality of the regular prints it produces they should be impressive. As long as you can afford to feed its cartridge habit, I would not hesitate to recommend this printer to anyone!
