I bought this printer on sale for $125 after considerable thought having seen its cheaper non wifi accessible cousin which is basically the same without the wireless access and in white. I have to say I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I have a desktop computer which is I plugged into the USB port and am using my laptop through the wifi so I can print off of 2 computers at anytime. It's good quality and comes with its own USB cord which a lot of the cheaper models don't. The set up is straightforward but for people who are unsure around computers the instructions can be kind of confusing. If you need to set up several computers it is better to have a wifi router but even without the printer can be set up to simply connect to a wifi accessible computer without going through a network. Hope that makes sense to any non "techies".

In summary, this is an all-in-one printer for people with multiple PC's/laptops in the home looking for simple yet good quality printing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid like the plague!!, May 5, 2009
This review is from: HP Photosmart C4599 All-in-One - Multifunction ( printer / copier / scanner ) - color - ink-jet - copying (up to): 30 ppm (mono) / 23 ppm (color) (Electronics)
I recently purchased the HP Photosmart C4599 because the last HP I had was an excelent workhorse. I had it for 6 years and only got rid of it because I was upgrading my computer. Big mistake. DO NOT BUY this product if you wish to use it wirelessly. I have had nothing but problems with it. Initially (first few days) it worked fine, but then it became unresponsive and the only way to get it to scan, copy or print was to unplug it and plug it in again. Pushing the buttons did not help - that got no response from the printer. I called technical support and was on the phone for FOUR HOURS and FORTY-FOUR MINUTES. Yes, you read that right. The tech thought he had solved the problem. It worked that night. The next day it was the same problem. I searched the internet for a solution and was unable to find one. A month later, I relunctantly called technical support again. They had no record of me calling previously and were unable to assist in solving the problem. I would have given the product zero starts if that had been an option.

If you don't have enough frustrations in your life, then by all means, buy this printer to fulfill that area in your life. Otherwise, avoid this printer like the plague.

1.0 out of 5 stars i've never had such hateful feelings toward an inanimate object before, May 27, 2009

I have the same problems that other reviewer had with having to unplug and re-plug the printer everytime i want to print something, even if I just turned it on, it always freezes the first time I try to print.

Scanning from this machine is even WORSE! If I try to scan something with even ONE window open in photoshop, an insane error occurs where error boxes continually appear and my computer makes that "BONK!" noise endlessly! I have to force quit photoshop and the hp scanning program, and unplug/re-plug the printer.

Also, you cannot reduce or enlarge straight from the unit, it only gives you the option to copy at 100% size, or "resize with (or without) border". You don't even get basic options like 150% or 200%. If you want to enlarge or reduce something you have to scan it in and do it in photoshop (or a program like that). See above for scanning problems!

I've never taken the initiative to write a negative review about a product before, but this thing makes me SO ANGRY, I had to write this one!!!!!!

This product broke in a little more than a year. But I am so easy on my printers that it was probably less than a month in printer life. Bad printer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the trouble, March 18, 2010

In the entire time I have owned this printer (8 months) I have only been able to print twice. Every time I would sit down and trouble shoot the wireless networking issues, a few hours would go by and I would get no where. The two times it did print it randomly connected to the network, but shortly after lost connection. The printer is next to the router, its not a connection strength issue. Funny thing too was if I let the computer install the drivers it would find the printer, but then the installation software wouldn't be able to find (both going over wireless).

Pros: The 2 times it printed it looks like the quality was ok.

Cons: Wireless connection, ate through ink, features are minimal

Summary: Last HP pinter I buy for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing... After update, August 12, 2009
This review is from: HP Photosmart C4599 All-in-One - Multifunction ( printer / copier / scanner ) - color - ink-jet - copying (up to): 30 ppm (mono) / 23 ppm (color) (Electronics)
When I first purchased this printer, it worked fine. Then it had an issue with being unresponsive. I asked HP for the firmware upgrade and then it worked perfect. No problems since then. It's fast. Great quality. And works great wireless or wired. I currently have multiple computers using this printer from all over the house and it's great. I recommend this to anyone. Plus... it's really small for an all-in-one of this quality. I tried another HP and Canon, and I ended with this one and glad I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works better than expected. Actually very pleased with this printer., July 23, 2009
This review is from: HP Photosmart C4599 All-in-One - Multifunction ( printer / copier / scanner ) - color - ink-jet - copying (up to): 30 ppm (mono) / 23 ppm (color) (Electronics)
I didn't buy from Amazon, but just wanted to counter the negative reviews with my experience. I unpacked the printer and followed the setup instructions. It took about 15 minutes to set up the wireless connection, but has been working flawlessly since then. I am using Apple computers, by the way.

A few things that I really like:
1. The wireless printing and scanning works great. For example, you can scan something in and use the printer menu to choose which computer to send it to.
2. I printed out some photos and the quality is quite good.
3. When you scan a photo, the HP software is actually surprisingly useful. It gives you the option of sending it to "Photosmart Studio" (the HP program), Photoshop, or iPhoto.
4. Small Size. This printer is about 2 inches smaller in length and width than most All-in-one devices out there, which I appreciate.

Overall, I think it is a great printer for this price range, and I would highly recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars very bad, December 29, 2011
This review is from: HP Photosmart C4599 All-in-One - Multifunction ( printer / copier / scanner ) - color - ink-jet - copying (up to): 30 ppm (mono) / 23 ppm (color) (Electronics)
This printer is very bad. I have it sharing an electrical outlet with 2 other electronics, so sometimes I need to unplug it. When I plug it back in, it always asks to print a test print and to scan it. What a waste of paper and ink(Which is very expensive).

1.0 out of 5 stars never again will I buy a HP, December 22, 2011
This review is from: HP Photosmart C4599 All-in-One - Multifunction ( printer / copier / scanner ) - color - ink-jet - copying (up to): 30 ppm (mono) / 23 ppm (color) (Electronics)
This is the biggest hunk of junk I have ever owned. It has frustrated me to no end. From the wireless printing not working with my mac, to the last straw of trying to print Christmas card envelopes with so many misprints and paper jams I was feeling less than cheery, and everything in between! I am contemplating taking this one out back and taking care of it " The Office" style, bat and all. Buy another brand.

1.0 out of 5 stars I want to smash it, November 2, 2011
This review is from: HP Photosmart C4599 All-in-One - Multifunction ( printer / copier / scanner ) - color - ink-jet - copying (up to): 30 ppm (mono) / 23 ppm (color) (Electronics)
I have had this for just over a year and now it only prints randomly. I have to go through this plugging and unplugging ritual multiple times to get it to work. Most the time I get a "missing ink cartridge" error. I have done all the troubleshooting and in doing so I have found that a kadrillion other people have this same problem. Do yourself a favor and avoid the hours of annoyance this machine dishes out.
