1.0 out of 5 stars Defective printer software, October 24, 2010
By
This review is from: HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer w/Built-in CD/DVD Drive (Electronics)
I have had this printer for a couple of years and prior to the software fiasco it operated as expected. When I upgraded my Microsoft Internet Explorer to version 8, I assumed the printer software (HP Director) would continue to operated as before. Not! HP has no fix for the elimination of the HP Director software so must set up the printer each time I print anything (ie. go to properties and select the appropriate options).

No one at HP or on the web has been able to fix this problem with a software patch. HP's on line help is no help at all. Their telephone support wants me to pay to talk to them about a problem created because HP doesn't want to create a patch for this problem. Customers who own hp printers know about the "This application has failed to start because libexpatw.dll was not found" Reinstalling the application does not correct the problem.

The Photosmart C8180 is an expensive printer. This will probably be the last HP printer I ever buy. I have been an HP customer for a long time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow, Slow, Slow, February 4, 2010
By
This review is from: HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer w/Built-in CD/DVD Drive (Electronics)
I've had the printer for about 6 or 7 months. and of all the printers I've ever had, this one is absolutely the SLOWEST. If you have a document printed on both sides, and you want to make a copy, printed on both sides, then plan on 2 minutes per copy. Between printing the first side, and turning it over to print the back side, the printer decides to go through a bunch of "preparations" and a couple of dozen cycles before it prints the second side. Very annoying. Quality of print is fine. No problem with that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Owned it for a year, August 17, 2009
This review is from: HP Photosmart C8180 All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer w/Built-in CD/DVD Drive (Electronics)
I usually do not write reviews on many products until I've used them for a while. I purchased this printer last year on a special purchase for approximately $200. It has its pros and cons:

Pros:
Wireless capability-makes printing from any room in your house very easy
Nice output when using highest quality color
Option for printing with black ink only--can buy high capacity ink @ warehouse club for a "somewhat reasonable" price
Software downloads available online-I have used this many times
Scanning Software is easy to use, scans to PDF or JPG

Cons:
Very slow, takes forever to print fron wireless network device
Software updates slow system down to a crawl
It seems like there's a new software update everyday!
Software crashes for no apparent reason-must re-download from HP website
