4.0 out of 5 stars Solid monitor. Good price point. Has the extra vertical pixels most current-gens are missing.
First off, this is not a professional monitor. However, it is GOOD. For the sub $300 price, you get 24" and the much preferred 16:10 aspect ratio with 1920x1200 pixels. I have used it for various work related tasks and it really is nice. I've used it for watching movies, and I would give it a 8/10 there. Blacks could be blacker, and it doesn't have the viewing angles...

Blacks could be blacker, and it doesn't have the viewing angles of an IPS monitor. But it also doesn't have the price of an IPS monitor either. This is the best monitor I have seen AT THIS PRICE POINT. I have a Dell WFP2408 IPS panel at work, and I would not recommend it over this one, unless you must have the color performance of an IPS panel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good buy, March 21, 2011

I've never been a huge fan of HP/Compaq computers; I had a bad experience with a lemon once. I really only got this monitor because I wanted a 3-monitor setup, and the graphics card required one of them to have a native displayport. I must say that this monitor is amazing. The screen quality is noticeably better than the rest of the monitors in our small office (not to mention that the resolution is better than most other monitors in its price-range). My boss was so impressed that I am pretty sure any future monitor purchases will be this model.

Other notes:
It can rotate (I am finding that a lot of monitors these days can't rotate, which does harm its versatility).
It has a carrying handle (It isn't a huge feature, but it is actually quite useful. I mean, it is really hard to carry an LCD monitor unless you use two hands, or you tuck it under your arm).

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap product with poor feature set, August 10, 2011
This review is from: HP Promo LA2405WG LCD Monitor. (Electronics)
I bought this monitor as a replacement for a 6 yo fancy HP2305 monitor. Of course this monitor is cheaper, but so is the feature set. Two problems come to mind:

1. The default settings are just horrible for this monitor. It has a few defaults one can choose. but all of them are bluish. Did anybody at the company try to put up a brown spotted cow and realize their monitor is making poor cow bluish. I got this monitor to work pretty decently, but I needed to make BIG changes to come to a neutral point. Changed Color Scheme to RGB 255, 200, 200, luminosity to 100, Contrast to 70. OK, factory defaults come too dark, too strong and too blue. I used the previous fancy monitor on default values for 6 yrs, and was happy with those. These defaults are nowhere close to neutral.

2. I understand the arguement that this is a cheapo product. A result of that is that it does not have any fancy viewing angles. I can buy all that logic up to this point. Buf it I sit smack in the middle of the monitor, and I open a white screen, say a maximized notepad editor, screen will be white in the middle, blue at the edges. Because monitor is so cheap, so big, one will never be able to watch a totally white screen from ANY angle, not even from center of the monitor. Once one brings up a color photo, that effect is no longer that visible or disturbing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would (and did) buy again, December 4, 2011
This review is from: HP Promo LA2405WG LCD Monitor. (Electronics)
This is slightly hard to review.

I'm tempted to give 5 stars, primarily because this is one of the very few 1920x1200 monitors now available. (My laptops have that resolution, but it's virtually impossible to find on new laptops).

The only real downside to this monitor for me is the relatively narrow view-angle that others have noted. And I have the subjective opinion that the color fidelity might not be pure enough for serious photographic work. Hence the 4 stars I settled on.

I'm a programmer/SQL database developer. I use this monitor rotated to portrait orientation (yes, its stand does rotate). This allows me to get about 120 lines of source code on the screen. And because of the 1200 pixel dimension, I get about 10 % more characters on each line than with a 1920x1080 monitor... which makes for a lot less scrolling.

I bought one of these monitors for my home office, and have had it for about 3 months as I write this.
A few weeks later, I bought a second one that I take with me and leave at whichever site I'm working. For that purpose, the handle on this monitor has proved very convenient. In both locations, I use the laptop's DVI connection.

1.0 out of 5 stars BAD customer service, December 28, 2011

Got this monitor about Thanksgiving time via Amazon. Opened box and found power button "locked". Request exchange on 12/1. Never get any feed back from vendor. The only way I can turn off the monitor is unplug power, now. (12/28).

Nice bright images, roomy desktops. I have three of them between work and home. Couldn't be happier with them, unless of course they were free ;-)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor with Excellent HP Support, October 4, 2011
By
This review is from: HP Promo LA2405WG LCD Monitor. (Electronics)
I bought this monitor a little over a year ago along with the optional attached speakers. I very much prefer the 1920x1200 over the less expensive 1920x1080 format. Adjustable tilt, height and portrait mode were also useful. The addition of brushed metal exterior as opposed to plastic was also appreciated.

Following a little less than a year of daily use, thin lines appeared on the right side of the desplay. I reported the problem to Hewlet Packard, and, to my surprise, instead of being directed to send the monitor back, a technician was dispatched about 70 miles to my rural Tennessee address. He replaced the monitor, affixed the speaker to the new monitor and took the old one and boxes away. Such service, which might have been the norm in the 90s for business quality equipment, was a welcome change from the mail order service of the last decade.

I anticipate replacing a Sanyo monitor later this year and will most probably buy another HP Compaq LA2405wg. Service after the sale is one of the reasons why I buy business class computer equipment.

This monitor is fabulous. White background and an altogether great display. This is a second purchase to get a matched pair.

A replacement for my Dell and Acer large format displays.

5.0 out of 5 stars 24" Monitor with Great Performance, January 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Promo LA2405WG LCD Monitor. (Electronics)
This is an excellent 24" monitor, with more resolution than Full HD, what give you more space in to work in drawings, data tables / spreadsheets, and display more information in the web browser. The resolution and color display are very good. Also it has two USB hub in the back side for those interesting in hook up another divices. I used two of those monitors in my office with VESA 10 arms attached in the back, givin me freedom to adjust the monitor to any height for ergonomic. Cons: it is heavy and more price costly than others 24" monitors in the market with LED technology, but those are only Full HD resolution capable.

1920 * 1200 at this price. No dead pixels. Good overall quality. I bought it for playing at pokerstars. I love it because it s not a wide ratio and i can tile 12 tables with almost no overlap.
I'm very satisfied with it.
