4.0 out of 5 stars Nice printer for low volume work
This printer installed easily and functions nicely in every way. My only complaint is that the ink cartridges, while very inexpensive, contain very little ink. If you're doing occasional printing, scanning or copying this is a great printer. If you expect to print more than 1000 pages per month, be prepared to change the cartridge as often as your undies.

I read all your reviews and I was amazed to find that most people thought it was a good printer. After I purchased one, I found several things that troubled me.

First, the program for the printer has a secret. It installs another user into your system. I thought something was weird when I had to log in to my computer, which was a single user system (Win XP). There were other changes to my system that I can only explain as glitches. For some reason, this affected a few programs and I will probably end up un-installing and re-installing most of them including my antivirus software. It stopped the scheduled scanning the day I installed this program. What a coincidence.

There were other issues... Although the print preview works, it does not truly print the same as the preview. It's always a little off center. There were issues with the paper I was using and this printer would not let me use any type of odd sizes no matter what adjustments I made. The photo itself was not as good as a real photo - pretty close, but not better. If you clicked on the help feature, the program took you to a web page. This would have been fine except that the last "\" should have been "/" so I kept getting a "This page cannot be displayed." error. If I corrected the "/", the page worked perfectly.

I must give credit to the HP support desk. They admitted that the program does create another user (and that I could delete it without issue). They tried to help me with the other issues and were very fast with replies but I am only willing to un-install and re-install the program 3 times (which is what I did). In the end, I think they knew that they could not help me and gave up.

I printed about 30-40 photos and ran out of the tri-color ink. That was the final straw and I will be returning this printer never to buy another HP printer again.

After re-reading the other reviews I thought I bought a lemon but after three installs with the same results, it must be something else.

If you decide to buy... good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly What I Was Looking For, August 24, 2005
By
Jennifer "Mom Of One" (Florence, KY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP Psc 1510 All-in-one Printer (Office Product)
My old printer was on its last leg so I had been on the hunt for a replacement for about a month. I use mine for a home based business so I didn't want to spend a ton of money nor did I want to end up with a piece of junk either. You all know the saying "you get what you pay for", well that does not ring true with this printer. I only paid $89.99, which is really cheap for an all-in-one unit, and I would have gladly paid more had I known how wonderful it was going to be! Installation was a breeze, however I did make a slight error during the print alignment part of the installation process but was able to log on to the HP website and chat live with a customer service rep who helped me fix the mistake in no time at all. I love the size of this machine, it isn't bulky at all, and fits perfectly on the shelf under my desk. I like the fact that I can hook my digital camera right into the printer which makes it easy to print my photos in a hurry. I am impressed with the quality of the pictures, they are beautiful; the colors are so crisp and clear, it's like I had them developed at a photo-center. Even better is the fact that the print cartridges are under $20 a piece, not the case with my old printer, they were over $25 a piece, ouch! As for longevity, so far I haven't had any problems; there hasn't been any paper jams, nor any software malfunctions that other reviewers have reported with the older version of this printer. Bottom line is if you are looking for a printer for personal use or for a home based business like myself then this printer is exactly what you are looking for. You just can't beat its quality for such a small price tag!

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Giant, August 12, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Psc 1510 All-in-one Printer (Office Product)
This All-in-one printer is truly a wondrous little machine. I was fortunate to be a product tester and this printer was sent to me to review and keep. I was so amazed and happy with the results that when the printer was finally released to the public I purchased a second and gave it to my sister as a present. You can't go wrong with this little jewel. I've been spreading the word to all my friends. the picture quality is one of the best I've ever seen. We have a laser color printer where I work and this little giant produces superior prints. One more thing...Amazon.Com has the best deal in town.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, terrible, terrible, April 3, 2006

This review is from: HP Psc 1510 All-in-one Printer (Office Product)
This printer worked just fine for one week. Then the paper jams began. HP's technical support person could only suggest that I clean the printer with a damp rag! The printer's performance continued to deteriorate, with frequent paper jams and incorrect "out of paper" messages. Also, the printer could not print labels properly -- they were always misaligned and unusable. After a month, the printer stopped working completely as it became completely unable to recognize that there was paper in the paper tray. I called HP and they demanded a credit card number as "collateral" before they would honor the warranty. Needless to say, this is the last HP product I will ever purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars paper feed is horrible, December 21, 2005
This review is from: HP Psc 1510 All-in-one Printer (Office Product)
After just 2 months of minor home printing, this printer started drawing paper from just the right side. It immediatly jammed. repeated attempts to get it to clear were unsuccessful. If you get lucky the first page might go through, buit after that it jams again. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Machine For Printing On The Fly, September 19, 2005
By
This review is from: HP Psc 1510 All-in-one Printer (Office Product)
This machine is good for printing on the fly. The price is very cheap.

Some troubles I had were the huge amount of disk space for some "required" programs (even the slimmed down version was 350mb). The ink cartridges run low very fast so this isn't recommended for high-volume work.

Another down-side is that I purchased the 1510xi version, I don't think theres any difference, however "photo cartridges" are optional. Apparently, if you want photo quality, you have to buy and exchange the color ink cartridge that came in free. Given that there are only two slots for ink cartridges, you'll have to change between the two for different purposes.

Otherwise, top-quality device. HP & Canon are my top choices for printers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great printer, good scanner, ok ink, awefull install, February 23, 2006

I bought this printer about a month ago and, in general, am happy with it. I replaced the color cartridge with the photo cartridge ($25 extra) and printed some 4x6 on HP's premium plus photo paper and was floored with the quality. I compared the printed photos to photos I had printed professionally and you can not tell the difference (actually, you can tell if you run your finger over the surface of the print, the HP is textured, I assume to ink build-up, the other was perfectly smooth). Five stars for print quality.

The scanner is pretty good, if not a little slow. Four stars.

The biggest problem I've found is, like other posts, the ink is simply WAY too small. Leaving this printer to only print the most boring tech manuals and web pages, other wise you'd just use too much ink. Three stars.

The install was a big problem. I have Windows XP Media Center 2005 and the install crashed the system half way through. On the plus side, it recovered perfectly and picked up where it left off. However, crashing a computer on a driver install is unforgivable. One star.

Like I said, overall I'm fairly happy with it. It does what it says it does. However, because of the cost of ink and price per print, I'm going to return this and get a higher end printer (3210 or 3310 with six individual ink cartridges and lower-total cost of ink)

Buy this if you do not intend to print photo-quality pages often, it's a great printer. If you want to print photos once in awhile, it prints beautifully. But if you intend on printing presentation level documents and photos, do yourself a favor and get something that can handle more ink.

I bought this because i also had a 1000 series all-in-one a few years back and it worked great back in those days. Sadly this printer does not live up to its predecessors... like... not even close. Although printing speed is faster and the quality standard, it's harder to use because the software is slow with confusing interface and takes up alot of memory for simple tasks. but the worst part is that, the paper wont even feed. and if it does it jams or takes a couple of paper in at the same time and prints all over them. each time i had to keep pressing resume about twice. never again with HP... i'm dissapointed. something so simple became so hard

2.0 out of 5 stars Seriously disgusted, March 12, 2006
This review is from: HP Psc 1510 All-in-one Printer (Office Product)
Got this printer in Nov, and it's been nothing but trouble. Ink goes way too fast. This printer is incapable of picking up a sheet of paper. It will pick up the whole stack, or pick up one and jam. The only way to get one sheet out whole is to manually feed it in.

As that's the reason I bought a new one (the old HP) had to be hand-fed, I'm not a happy camper. This piece of junk is going back to the store tomorrow.
