5.0 out of 5 stars Holds True to Excellent Results!
This is the printer I use at my office, and have never once been disapointed with the results; crystal clear printing at a very high speed. Easy to use and even easier to troubleshoot with the screen feature serving as your "help" manual.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast Printer
We have had a 4200 since September 2003 when it was purchased to print daily business reports and monthly billing statements. We have been pleased with its speedy printing and with its excellent print quality.

On the down side, we have a LOT of trouble with paper jams. Seems like every day or so we have to open it up and pull out a sheet of crumpled paper. And it is...

We've had this printer for a little under a year and had to change the toner once (with three people printing at least 75-100 pages/day).

I definitely recommend this for any small business/office setting and I'm actually considering one for my home!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Fast Printer, March 7, 2004

We have had a 4200 since September 2003 when it was purchased to print daily business reports and monthly billing statements. We have been pleased with its speedy printing and with its excellent print quality.

On the down side, we have a LOT of trouble with paper jams. Seems like every day or so we have to open it up and pull out a sheet of crumpled paper. And it is pretty bad about feeding more than one sheet at a time. I wouldn't swear that a more expensive paper would not solve the problem but we use so much paper we have been buying the least expensive, store branded variety.

One further observation; the construction quality just seems a little cheesy, not like our old HP LaserJet 4, which has printed about a zillion copies and just keeps plugging along, never jams and never feeds multiple sheets. (All the criticisms mentioned also apply to an HP OfficeJet 7130 all-in-one we purchased for another office)

4.0 out of 5 stars Product Review, November 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP LaserJet 4200n Printer (Office Product)
The product arrived on schedule and when I pulled it out of the box, it worked quite well; I'm still evaluating it though, since it is a used device and one can never tell when there will be problems.

2.0 out of 5 stars Defective, March 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP LaserJet 4200n Printer (Office Product)
I bought this printer as a replacement for an identical one that finally wore out. It arrived missing the network card which then took another couple weeks to receive. That card was defective also and I am still awaiting re3solution to this problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best printer a home office can have-even used!, October 13, 2010
This review is from: HP LaserJet 4200n Printer (Office Product)
OK, I love the 4200n. It is called "Lucky VIII", due to a laser printer naming convention in our house. I needed a second generation HP LaserJet 4000 Series printer for one task that you wouldn't believe me if I said it, so it will go unsaid. It also came in really handy when I had to update the two computers I had previously and buy 2 even more capable ones. So this printer not only carries out its original purpose, but is also incredibly useful as a printer. Namely, my HP LaserJet 4000N-modern OS versions like Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard as well as Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate along with Office 2008 Home and Student, iWork '09, and Office 2007 Professional and Ultimate gag when trying to print to Lucky VII (the HP LaserJet 4000N I have), and so Lucky VIII is the black and white printer. Good thing too, as even though I have a color laser printer, I needed a black and white model the modern computers could accept, since I need both black and white (primarily) and a few high-priority color printouts for college, and I didn't (and still don't) want to work the color laser (a HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni named "Lucky-ILC", for "Lucky-In Living Color") to eat through consumables since his consumable costs are far higher. So Lucky VIII does that, and Lucky-ILC rests until I choose to use him.

The differences are amazing-12ppm for Lucky-ILC versus 35ppm for Lucky VIII, 30.000 page per month duty cycle versus 150,000 page per month duty cycle, 2.000 pages per black cartridge versus 12,000 pages per black cartridge-just to name a few of the ways in which Lucky VIII is more economical for printing black and white documents than Lucky-ILC. These are the reasons that even though I had to buy him used (there was no way to come up with $1500 to buy him new), he has been the best pickup in terms of printers almost bar none. Lucky VII is slightly better in the unbelievable aspect, but in the aspect of being a real, useful printer in 2010, Lucky VIII has it all over his predecessor.

To clarify:

Lucky VII-tricked out HP LaserJet 4000N with all the interfaces that vintage computers could readily use, sadly little compatibility with modern computers and Office versions, a duplexer, and it works to print envelopes (the Tray 1 lifting mechanism never lifts on the 4200n).
Lucky VIII-stock condition HP LaserJet 4200n that has a much higher page count, is pretty much fully useful with modern computers, but has undergone a maintenance cycle recently, so he's good to go for a while longer.
Lucky-ILC-completely stock condition HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni, which was bought for the occasional color job that an inkjet would ruin if it got wet before I could hand it in. It's used the least overall. but is so worth it when he is needed.

I love all three of my printers, but my HP LaserJet 4200n "Lucky VIII" is the most useful because he fulfills two desperately needed functions at once. I heartily recommend you pick one up.
