I bought this because I already have an HP laser printer which is far and away the best printer I have ever owned. I am sure this all-in-one is a solid HP product. But I am writing this review to alert buyers that this is an "all-in-one-minus-one. I hope to prevent a mistake similar to mine.

The "no flatbed scanner" in a couple of reviews did not sink in as I was shopping late at night, so I ordered the machine.
When the machine arrived, the light dawned: YOU CAN ONLY COPY USING THE AUTOMATIC SHEET FEEDER. There is NO WAY to copy a page from a book or any non-normal paper source. Thanks to Amazon for their reasonable return policy, but I'm out the cost of 2-way shipping for my dumb mistake. Hopefully this will alert those looking for a more versatile copier of this regrettable limitation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Had a difficult time making the scanner work., May 8, 2005

This review is from: HP LaserJet 3015 All-in-One (Office Product)
I previously owned a couple of HP electronic products and I was satisfied with their performance. I wanted a multi-function printer so I bought the Laserjet 3015.

The first time I installed the software, I had no problem with the printer, copier and fax functions. But I could not get the HP Toolbox to load and the scanner would not work. For three mornings, I was on the phone with HP support, trying to figure out how to solve the problem. I downloaded exe files from HP's website and installed them as instructed but that did not help. It was only after the third try and working with a third support rep that I was finally able to make it work.

My only wish is that I bought a system with a flatbed scanner but for the price, I can live with what I have. It's now working fine with me and I am happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Machine, October 2, 2005

I bought this machine to use in my real estate business since I needed the better cost per sheet on toner vs. ink jet and I wanted to consolidate equipment into one machine. I was previously somewhat sour on all-in-one machines, but this has been a dream. It works flawlessly and there were days I really put it to the test. Great print quality, fax is quick, document feeder works well. I never had to 'babysit' faxes to be sure it wouldn't pull multiple pages through at a time. The printer was very versatile for full page all the way to envelopes and greeting cards. I highly recommend this printer!

5.0 out of 5 stars a workhorse, October 8, 2005
By
This review is from: HP LaserJet 3015 All-in-One (Office Product)
I recently worked for a company that provided me the HP 3015 for the home office they set up for me. I just left the company and sadly had to turn in my office equipment, including the HP 3015 laser printer. I have two personal inkjet printers and a scanner, but I wanted to have a good laser printer for my big projects. Although it's not a color laser printer, I found this product to be a workhorse when it comes to printing out large quantities of paper. My previous experience with this printer, lead me back to it when I started looking for a good all-in-one to suit my needs. It never failed me in the time that I had used it. Setting it up only took a few minutes (mainly because I was already familiar with it), but it still is an easy machine to learn, whether it be for printing reports, faxing, scanning, or copying. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to print out large quantities of good quality work. If you need a flat bed scanner, perhaps a another machine might suit your needs. Fortunately, I already have an HP flatbed scanner that already fills that bill. The 3015 is a great product. You can also find replacement cartridges for around $45 if you look diligently.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can FAX from Software?, April 29, 2005
By
This review is from: HP LaserJet 3015 All-in-One (Office Product)
This is to answer previous post/question by Edward Johnsen, if HP-3015 can FAX directly from computer software.
I am also in research for a "all-in-one" reasonable price solution, and the HP-3015 seems to "fit-the-bill". I wrote to HP support regarding this inquiry and I got a satisfying response as the following:

Based on the information you supplied in your e-mail, you are asking about faxing software for your HP LaserJet 3015.

Yes, the printer has Send Fax software which enables you to fax from the desktop. The document at the link below provides an overview of the options available for this product:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00064389

In summary, the answer is YES.

I have owned a lot of HP printers and such over the last 20 years. There's no problem with this machine that I care to harp on, but the SUPPORT SOFTWARE has a BUG that PREVENTS Windows XP from GOING ON STANDBY. Your machine will just sit there like an idiot, displaying the error message and failing repeatedly to go into power-saving mode. THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN to HP, but their suggested FIX DOES NOT WORK no matter how many times you download and install updated drivers, NOR DOES THE COMPANY RESPOND to e-mail or voice messages about the problem. This has been going on for several months for me. Not happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works fine to me...., February 24, 2006
By
This review is from: HP LaserJet 3015 All-in-One (Office Product)
I've had this product for going on a month now and it's worked very well. The laser printer is great. Fast, accurate. The scanner is easy to use for a load in scanner. The fax faxes on memory. And the Xerox is a easy to use and typical of any Xerox machine as far as quality is concerned. I've had no issues with loading documents as well.

My only complaint would be that it does not come with Mac software. You have to go online and download the software. I'm also having issues with faxing from my computer, however this is most likely as user error and a simple call to HP will remedy the problem.

A very easy to use, well organized product. Also, very reasonable for a laser jet feature.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Printer But Not Fot High Volume Use., May 9, 2006
This review is from: HP LaserJet 3015 All-in-One (Office Product)
I bought the printer for my home office. It works well for basic printing of documents but have some annoying problems when it comes to faxes, copies, and scans. I go through a lot of paper during a typical day. I have to send a lot of faxes and make copies constantly. The machine makes this job very taxing at times. For normal printing of documents I have no complaints. The problems I have with the machine's faxing, copying, scanning capabilities make me regret not doing more research before I purchased it. I would not purchase this machine if given a second chance.

These problems are due to the way the paper is fed into the machine. The paper feeds from the top of the machine and jams very often. Ive used the reccommended papers and have still had problems in a variety of situations. I would recommend getting a fax machine that did not use gravity to feed the documents, these machines tend to jam and cause a headache for the user.
After using the machine daily for the past year I run into the most problems when Im:

1. Trying to fax/scan/copy more than 15 pages at a time
2. Trying to fax/scan/copy documents that were just printed using the machine and are not perfectly straigt
3. Trying to fax/scan/copy documents that have been previously folded as in letters recieved in the mail.

The machine will pull more than one page through at a time sometimes a whole stack of papers at once. If the load is too much there will be a paper jam and you will have to restart the process.

I often fax long distance to professional offices. It is a NIGHTMARE when the machine does not like what you are trying to feed it. If you leave it alone sometimes you wont know which pages sent and which pages doubled up on transmission, then you have to either resend the whole fax or call the person on the other line and try to find out what is missing, which can be taxing on large faxes.

When the machine starts to give me problems but the fax has to be made, Im forced to feed each sheet INDIVIDUALY into the machine to make sure they are sent. This would be no big problem with small faxes but recently I had to send 100 Pages to a long distance company. It still would not have been that bad if the machine had more memory. I had to feed one at a time and then after the first 20 or so I had to wait until each few pages were successfully sent before the machine would let me feed in the next few pages. Luckily my computer was there so I was able to keep busy for the hour or so that it took just to feed in the papers.

This is reason enough to pass on this printer if you expect to use this machine for moderate to high volume faxes/scans/copies, but there is more.

The software that the printer uses is based on an internet connection and if you are not connected you cannot access or change any of the options from your pc, you can however use the small screen on the printer to change most of the more common fax/copy options if your internet connection is lost.

You CANNOT SCAN anything though because the printer relies on PC input in order for you to pick how you would like to save the scan. This can be really annoying if your modem is in another room, or if you are having problems with your cable connection. Or if you are having problems faxing and want to scan and then email your document.

I would only recommend this printer for somebody that uses it primarily for the printing of documents, small copies, small faxes, and small scans. AND I STRESS SMALL. Id go with a machine that had a tray that was not based on gravity to feed the papers into it thus avoiding the problems with jams when there should be no jams. It is one of the most annoying things Ive ever experienced when you want to use the machine to accomplish a simple task and it ends up wasting your time and causing you headache.

also there is a problem with the faxes. the people that wrote the software did not think about what they were doing. When you send a fax you can either send from the fax directly by placing papers in the tray and hitting a button on the machine or you can place the papers in the tray and go into fax software to create a cover page and send the fax.

there is a problem with this software, first you cant just hit a button and save a contact. you fill out the name, company name, and fax number right a subject and a little message and the software sends it to the number and fills out a cover page for you.

there is an autosave function for the contact info but it randomly saves. you cant just hit a button to add the person to your addressbook instead you have to go through like three other steps just to save a guys number.

ive used other software that when you send a fax it saves a copy of the fax on your hard drive. this software also seems to save copies randomly and then deletes them after a while.

the software also doesnt save a copy of the incoming faxes to your pc all the time. there are two settings: one allows the fax to come directly into the pc where you can print it out, or you can have it where the fax machine gets it directly and prints it out right away. this is the option that i like to use because my computer is not always on (like most people) the problem is that you cant set it to save the file on the computer and print it out automatically at the same time. this way you could have a backup of the stored faxes on the pc but the pc would not have to be on all the time.

also of the faxes that are stored on the fax machine, there is a problem when you have to reprint a fax that you may have lost. you cant just select the one that you want to print out if you need to replace a lost fax. instead you have to print out all of the faxes that are stored on the memory.

the scanning function is also a pain. you have to put the pages on the scanner, then hit a button on the machine, then you have to go to the PC and select how you want to save the file (jpg, Pdf, bmp) then you hit save, and it starts to scan. when all the pages are done you have to hit a final button in order to save the pages just in case you need to scan an additional page. it was a good idea but it takes so long and the software keeps popping up on the screen so you cant really do anything on the computer when it is saving the pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent choice!!!, February 10, 2006
This review is from: HP LaserJet 3015 All-in-One (Office Product)
For the money ($269.99 at sam's club), it's a great buy...even for the $299 on amazon, it's a good buy. I recently bought one for my home to use for work (real estate agent), and it's very impressive. I wish i bought one 2-3 years ago. Copying is simple....printing is simple....scanning is simple, but i will that the scanning is fairly slow. It does the job, but it probably takes close to 1 minute per page. However, i'm used to a hp digital sender that scans and emails a 10 page document in about 30-45 seconds...so i was probably spoiled by that. For home use, the scanner is....well, I'd say adequate.

Honestly, I haven't used the fax yet.....I didn't really need that function, but if you're gonna buy a multifunction unit, you might as well get it. I'm sure it will come in handy at some point.

The unit is small in terms of desk space...actually, it probably takes up less room than the inkjet printer it replaced. Also, it's VERY quiet....

Unpacking was easy....installation was easy (although my computer rejected the first 2-3 installation attempts, i had to restart my computer - probably not the printer's fault). I had everything up and running in about 20 minutes....

I would highly recommend this for a home office/student/home use.

ps - i had the same problem as art (scanning function would not work), but after a few minutes, it recognized the scan function. i had the same problem, but fortunately it cleared itself up pretty quickly...i didn't have to contact customer support.

1.0 out of 5 stars If you lack stress in your life buy this model from HP, June 8, 2006
This review is from: HP LaserJet 3015 All-in-One (Office Product)
I actually wanted to use 0 stars but not available as a choice. I purchased the HP Laserjet 3015 last Fall. For the first month or so it worked fine then it started to print on a slant. A refurbished model that was sent to me as a replacement did the same thing. Faxes came in crooked and word process documents printed at an angle. Calls to HP proved fruitless and frustrating. They made no attempt to satisfy me, reimburse me for the original defective machine nor reimburse me for the added expense of paying to have a second defective machine sent to me or in any way acknowledge the problem. They actually denied being able to see that lines were crooked when I faxed pages to them. That was the straw that broke my back. Actually denying the problem when it was starring them in the face. I am stuck with this machine but you don't have to be- DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. If it makes a difference to you what your printed documents look like or if you like your incoming faxes to be straight on the page this is not the machine for you. I will NEVER buy another product from HP. This company has a defective machine and it refuses to acknowledge it. You will not be satisfied if you deal with them. Several other reviewers mention this problem so I am not an isolated case. I am sure that HP is well aware of the defect and just chooses to take your money and give you a defective product. HP service providers have acknowledged this model as well as other HP products have problems and they do not even recommend purchasing them. Old HP products worked well but the current products fail in comparision to other products out there. Buyer Beware !!
