Special Features
The Scanjet 8390 offers several convenient features to help you save time. The 100-page automatic document feeder offers fast, unattended duplex scanning with speed and convenience, while the dual-scan heads scan both sides of the page simultaneously. Scan single-sided pages at up to 35 pages per minute (ppm), or make two-sided scans at 70 images per minute (ipm). To help troubleshoot any potential problems with the image, preview scans are captured in a quick four seconds. You can also create custom scan profiles, which makes your scanning time even more efficient. Plus, the HP Smart Document Scan Software provides everything needed to scan, correct errors, and convert and save electronic files. Assign document profiles to buttons on the scanner, then easily launch the profiles with a push of a button. Finally, make copies with the touch of a "copy" button that delivers the convenience of a copier by sending a scan to your default printer, providing multiple copies of a single scan. You can even scan 35mm slides, negatives and larger film sizes, using the built-in transparent materials adapter.

The Scanjet 8390 seamlessly integrates with existing software so you can start scanning immediately. Use the TWAIN drivers, which are compatible with most software applications, or integrate the scanner into your existing document management software by using ISIS drivers.

Management and Organization Capabilities
The Scanjet 8390 makes it easy for you to easily file, locate and organize digital documents. ScanSoft PaperPort (NewSoft Presto! PageManager for Mac) includes a complete personal document management solution with a browser-type interface, which displays thumbnails of files on the system and makes it easy to find and move photos and documents. First, initiate scanning from within the program or from the front panel of the scanner. Then file documents and photos quickly with drag-and-drop capabilities. You can also convert scanned documents into editable text. This helps you save time capturing text from hard-copy documents. For added convenience, you can edit text from scanned documents, using included IRIS Readiris Pro OCR software or HP Smart Document Scan Software, and easily save scans as Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF files.

Speed, Connectivity, and Compatibility
The Scanjet 8390 works incredibly fast, leaving you plenty of time for other things. For example, you can scan a 4 x 6-inch photo into Microsoft Word in less than 24 seconds; it can also scan a full page of text into Word in less than 33 seconds. The Scanjet 8390 lets you connect to your PC via a Hi-Speed USB connection (compatible with USB 2.0 specifications).

I ordered this scanner to enhance a "less paper" office. We have 5 Canon DR-2050c's for desktop use as well as a Xerox copier that can scan bulk projects to the server. However, the Canon DR-2050C was proving to be not enough capacity for the volume of scanning our secretary was performing. This HP was the right price from Amazon for the speed, volume and ease of use it provided. I highly recommend this product. A side note, our original model made a high pitched screeching noice when purchased. HP was fantastic, overnighted a whole new top half of the scanner to us and told us to keep the old for parts! Not too bad for service from HP!

We have had this scanner for 1 year and it came up with an error message that our computer tech cannot fix so it sits on the desk and gathers dust. It is very slow to warm up, but scans fast after it finally warms up. Sure was a lot of money to pay for something that is slow AND didn't even last a year. Not recommended!
