The Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 7450c is designed for businesses requiring high-speed scanning, with a larger scan bed suited for a broad range oforiginals. Seven front-panel buttons e-mail, fax, copy, file, and edit yourimages, plus provide access to even more features. The software for doingall of this is furnished with the unit, plus you can edit scanned documentswith the fully automated optical character recognition (OCR). With 2,400-dpioptical resolution, unlimited enhanced resolution, and 48-bit colorprocessing, you'll get consistent colors and crisp, black text.

The 7450c is shipped with a top-lit transparency adapter to scan multiple35mm slides, negatives, and up to 5-by-5-inch transparencies, plus a50-page automatic document feeder to expand your scanning up to 15 pages per minute. TheHP 7450c scanner also includes a 16-character display front panel foreasier operations. When using the automatic document feeder, it produces document scans that are skewed slightly. HP technical support says this is normal. I find this completely unsatisfactory. You will not be able to produce accurate document scans.

Do not purchase this scanner if you intend to scan photographs. The scan quality if very poor. Scans appear with no contrast and overly pixelated in dark areas of photo scans. The colors do not appear correct.

The performance is also unsatisfactory. It is very slow and extremely noisy.

HP refuses to offer a Vista driver for the ScanJet 7400 series that works. I did a google search and realized I wasn't alone in unsuccessfully installing their Vista driver. HP's attitude is take it or leave it. I will never buy an HP product again.
