I love this scanner. It is a high quality machine. The quick access buttons on the front are very conveint. My only problem with this is that it didn't give enough instructions on how to use the picture negatives part.

Good Scanner - Only Buy with An Extended Warranty,
By Norman "TrendRider" (Virginia United States) - See all my reviews

This is my 2nd HP scanner. The first lasted 6 years, this one 6 months. The scanner seemed a little slow but did a good job of scanning. I don't use one everyday so I don't need a high end scanner. At light usage I did expect the scanner to last longer than 6 months. Since this is a relatively inexpensive scanner, repairing it is not cost effective. My next scanner will be from Canon which I have found out has a 1-year warranty rather than only 90 days.

I bought this scanner as a replacement for my older Mustek 1200UB. I made a mistake and promply returned it for a refund. The quality was very nice, however, the scanner produced little horizontal lines all the way down the right side. This was unacceptable as I had bought the scanner to do a project where I'd be scanning lots and lots of old family photos for storage. I'm not trying to be too negative about this scanner, but the software was difficult to use as well. I'd set certain defaults and it would revert back to the originals even after I told it to default to my saved settings. I hated having to click on File, Import, Scanner every time I wanted to scan something in Photoshop. I wanted the scanning software to remain open and allow me to scan batches at a time. No, I had to re-open the software for every single scan, which meant having to wait for the splash screen to go away and then wait on the lamp to warm up. Needless to say, I'm back using my old Mustek. :(

Big Disappointment,

This scanner only lasted four montns before failing to perform. It only had a 90-day warranty so it pooped out just about one month after the end of the warranty. Their manual says you can't just throw them away because they contain mercury and lead so I took it back to Office Max, where I bought it, and told them to recycle it along with their other recyclable stuff. Won't every buy another HP product. Piece of junk!!!!

After reading bad reviews I decided to give my own opinion. This is an old model so if you get hold of one it's already dated. I have had mine for many years and have scanned EVERYTHING you can think of and they all turn out perfect. The detail is incredible, mirror like. I have scanned multiple pictures at once and it separates each - you can edit before scanning - into separate scans saving so much time for big projects. The scans print out beautifully into photos. It has scanned coins and small items with perfect clarity. Documents into PDFs, pics into multiple types and the list goes on. 35mm slides do not come out picture perfect but it does scan those as well as negatives with built in TMA. I've had this scanner for many, many years and never had a problem with it that wasn't my fault. It even works with my 64 bit, running Vista and lots of things don't! I've probably had it running with 5 different computers over the years and it was always easy to download new drivers if needed. It has always been easy to use. I highly recommend this scanner.
