5.0 out of 5 stars suits me just fine!
I needed a copier/scanner for use at home, and this was a perfect selection. The price was reasonable, and I make copies of bills and other literature that prevent me from taking them to work or to the library, saving lots of time. The hook-up was very easy, and the software setup was the quickest I've experienced when adding hardware. Much recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars A few bugs to work out
This is a fairly cheap, good quality scanner. Mine, however, has one little problem: the little ribbon of wire that connects to the light bar often gets tangled when the light bar moves the full length of the tray (which it must do before "starting a new scan") . When it becomes tangled the light bar refuses to move and the motor makes a horrible sound. The...

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple but Efficient, June 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: HP ScanJet 2200c Color Flatbed Scanner (C8507A) (Office Product)
I'm an engineer. I bought an HP Scanjet 2200C for my 5-year old daughter to use in school. I singled out Scanjet 2200C from my other choices because it was an HP, "Designed for Windows XP," a newer model, and priced low. I liked the neat, careful way HP packaged the product: artful and without the usual clutter on the outside. Inside the box, I found the scanner snugly fit. The lid is key-locked against movement during transport. I knew beforehand that this scanner included only the elements: LTX Precisionscan (scanning software) and I.R.I.S. OCR (text recognition software.) I found no occassion yet to use Adobe ActiveShare and the HP Copy Utility. But what it does have, it does quite well. I thought the scanned image looked brighter, sharper, and livelier on the computer than on the original photo. The OCR may lack advanced features. But the mere fact that I can easily scan and EDIT documents with it was already a big help in my technical reports. On my Windows XP computer, the LTX software installed seamlessly. It's interface is clean and simple. Though the 2200C doesn't have an ON/OFF switch my PC does NOT automatically turn ON the scanner UNLESS I clicked the LTX program first. What's more, after the scanner has been idle for about 10 minutes, Windows XP AUTOMATICALLY turns it OFF. I checked by lifting the lid to see the light. The lid can be removed to scan thicker objects and it's no big deal putting the lid back. I don't know how fast scanners ought to be. If this was slow, I didn't notice. I don't have problems with it since I bought it a month ago. It came with one year local warranty. I'm keeping the box in any case. Just about the only gripe I can say is that it can't accomodate legal size paper (which I rarely use anyway.) This is my family's first scanner and we're happy it does what it says. There are plenty of scanners out there. I'm sure one would closely meet your requirements. This elegant little machine did for me. Good luck!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Unit for the price., January 19, 2002
This review is from: HP ScanJet 2200c Color Flatbed Scanner (C8507A) (Office Product)
This is a easy to setup quick little scanner, not the smallest unit, certainly not the biggest. I find the software to be fine, and I dont even bother with Adobeshare as I save all my scans to a file rather than adobe share. Additionally the gentlemen from India is entirely wrong, you can easily save as any format from the scanner. All my files get saved as jpegs.

The best feature on this unit is the copier feature, on push of the button and the image goes right to my printer, and it looks awesome.......

I have ONE COMPLAINT. THe quality of the buttons in front of the machine WILL NOT stand up to heavy use. I dont use them you can activate the features via software... if you forget that HP got cheap on the buttons you will love this unit.

I had a old scanner (parallel). So you can have an idea about how I felt about this HP scanner: Fast, USB Port doesn't stop your PC all the time, good resolution for my Home and Office needs... everything I need!

4.0 out of 5 stars Too bad it's bundled with Adobe Activeshare, December 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: HP ScanJet 2200c Color Flatbed Scanner (C8507A) (Office Product)
I had this nifty scanner up and running in 20 minutes - and exported my pictures to the Adobe Activeshare it came with. All went well until I attempted to e-mail the photos (which was my main purpose!). I encountered the infamous "49%" error - I say infamous, because I found at least 100 people have posted the same problem on Adobe's message board! With no response from Adobe!

Of course, it's entirely possibe to save your photos to a file and attach them to your outgoing mail, which is exactly what I finally did. But I wish I hadn't wasted hours trying to get Adobe to work properly.

HP should re-think their agreement with Adobe here. It made for a unpleasant experience with an otherwise fine product.

I'm not a computer guru or anything like that. I needed a scanner and I saw this had two good qualities. It was an HP and it was pretty cheap. It totally fills my needs. Sure if you are someone whose main goal in life is to use your scanner, this might not suit you. But for someone like me, who might use a scanner once or twice a week this was perfect, almost too good.

When it becomes tangled the light bar refuses to move and the motor makes a horrible sound. The only solution is to take it apart and untangle this jumple of wires. The images are otherwise high quality, just seems that the engineers were a little short sighted.

I have bought 3 of these for family and friends. I tried to buy another one for chrismas 2002 but office depot inexplicably cancled the order with no notice of why. The first 3 were bought direct from amazon.
The scanner is kinda slow but does very good scans. HP has not improved their ability to write drivers or install programs but
cannon and xerox are not any better. You will have a half dozen TSR's/systray items sucking up resources but the savvy user can use msconfig to trim the footprint when not in use. Can't beat it for the price, therefore I figure HP will quit making it pretty damn soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bang for the buck!, November 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: HP ScanJet 2200c Color Flatbed Scanner (C8507A) (Office Product)
The quality is there. It is a little on the slow side but it produces scans just as good as the high-dollar model I use at work. Well worth the investment if price is all that's keeping you from scanning at home.

After a three days of successful scanning of about 50 photos, my newly purchased HP2200c scanner made a loud pop, and electrical smelling smoke came from it. It was just sitting there and BANG! It made OK scans (I've seen better) but never worked again after the BANG.
