Horrible scanner,
By
This review is from: HP ScanJet G3110 Photo Scanner - Scanner à plat - 220 x 300 mm - 4800 ppp x 9600 ppp - Hi-Speed USB (Office Product)
Just bought this one today and am returning it right away.
The installation software on the CD did not work, saying that there a file called hpzrein01 has failed. Once I managed to download the 168Mb software from HP website, the problem again persisted. I've tried in two different laptops (Windows XP) and the problem was the same. In the end, I managed to just download the driver without the full software. The scans are horribly done. I wanted to use it to scan photos but it keeps on scanning the part of the lid that has the entrance for the negatives. This means that I would have to crop the picture to get the actual photo size. Add to this that the scan was super slow, I cannot believe this product actually came out the market. I am sorry but whoever at HP that gave the green light for this product to come out should look for another job. He would do HP (and the world) a favor.

HP Scanjet G3110,

This review is from: HP ScanJet G3110 Photo Scanner - Scanner à plat - 220 x 300 mm - 4800 ppp x 9600 ppp - Hi-Speed USB (Office Product)
I bought the Scanjet G3110 primarily to bring forward to digital my 2" x 2" 35mm color slide collection. Scanning at 400 pixels per inch has produced great colors beyond 2000 x 2000 format. Importing the raw scan file into IPhoto for it's editing features, and display options, has produced a satisfying conversion update to utilize today's technology options. A new life for those images of mine, which haven't seen light in 39 years, has been an opportunity to leave a legacy for future generations of the family. The scanner is basic, with a solid 35mm slide or negative adapter built into the lid, has a versatile menu of scanning options for file save formats. It works! I would buy another, and another.

HP Scanjet G3110 Photo Scanner
I bought this scanner from another source and can't return it to the store FAST ENOUGH. It isn't designed to do multiple scans in a row - it immediately takes you to the 'creative' page when you're finished scanning so you have to go back into the scan program over and over to scan multiple photographs. It won't allow setting dpi ahead of time and it won't remember any your settings between scans. It takes mine 55 seconds to scan one photograph at 300 dpi and won't recognize multiple photographs placed on the bed. It also crashed my Windows XP system several times and locked up the computer completely twice. You'd be smart to pay a few more dollars and buy a REAL scanner! Not even worth one star.

Negative Reviews All from 2008, 2009+ Drivers Fixed Issues,

This review is from: HP ScanJet G3110 Photo Scanner - Scanner à plat - 220 x 300 mm - 4800 ppp x 9600 ppp - Hi-Speed USB (Office Product)
hi,
I was hesitant to buy this scanner until I noticed that nearly all of the negative reviews were written in 2008, and several 5-star reviews were written in 2009. I confirmed with HP that there have been several driver revision in 2009, including updates in Dec 2009, and March 2010. I'm using the latest Mac driver (Mar 2010) on OSX 10.6, and I've had no problem with the scanner. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the speed is somewhat slower than my previos liDE 30 Canon scanner, and it doesn't have photo separation tech like that one did. However, all-in-all a good scanner. One last note... I love Amazon, but I found this scanner new for 40 dollars on e-bay.

good scanner,

This is a very good scanner. I have no idea what other reviewers are talking about. The picture quality is crystal clear. It looks just as real as the original picture put on the scan-bed. However, for a first time user I would not really recommend this as he or she may find it bit too advanced. But for an intermediate scan user or someone who has used scanners before, they should find it very good. My computer worked perfectly, it never crashed as other reviewers have claimed. If you have 2 GB memory at least, I see no reason for it to crash. However, there is no user manual in this scanner. So I think it is not designed for a first time scan user.

Disappointed,

This review is from: HP ScanJet G3110 Photo Scanner - Scanner à plat - 220 x 300 mm - 4800 ppp x 9600 ppp - Hi-Speed USB (Office Product)
I purchased the G3110 scanner to work with my new MacBook Pro. Nothing but problems. The images scanned easily enough but then crashed my system whenever I tried to manipulate the finished file. HP claims this scanner to be Mac compatible, but I am returning it tomorrow.

What are you talking about?!?!?!?,

I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. This scanner is quick and easy to use. Sure, it's a little noisy, but show me a scanner that isn't. My only complaint is that I can't figure out how to permanently change the settings, rather than change them every time I do a scan. But, I have no serious issues with this scanner and I think the people that do didn't install it right or something. Or, maybe because I bought directly from HP, mine is manufactured better. Yes, that really does happen. Anyway, this is a great scanner and ignore the reviews that say it isn't.

very poor 35mm slide scanning,
By Alan (Provo, UT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HP ScanJet G3110 Photo Scanner - Scanner à plat - 220 x 300 mm - 4800 ppp x 9600 ppp - Hi-Speed USB (Office Product)
This scanner did an okay job scanning a paper document to a PDF file. The software that comes with the scanner is very clumsy. One of the reasons I bought this scanner was the extra feature to digitize 35mm slides. Slides with very crisp images scanned to very blurry images. It did a very poor job for scanning film.

Decent Scanner for a Reasonable Price,
By
This review is from: HP ScanJet G3110 Photo Scanner - Scanner à plat - 220 x 300 mm - 4800 ppp x 9600 ppp - Hi-Speed USB (Office Product)
I purchased this for around $100. It is a decent scanner for the price but has some issues:
1. It is true that the software is VERY DIFFICULT to use (especially if you have never used HP Scanning Software). It does not come with a paper instructional manual and the digital version is not very helpful. I learned how to use it by trial and error. 2. Install the software and then run "HP Solution Center" from the Start Menu. Then click on scan document, scan picture, etc. ("HP Solution Center" should be renamed "HP Scan Center" because it has nothing to do with solutions. It is the program you run to scan documents, pictures, etc.) 3. Sometimes #2 doesn't work, in which case, it is better to just push the one-button scan key on the scanner which should launch the scan. 4. It is very slow. I did not find useful in scanning more than a few pages because it takes so long. As a counter, the image resolution can be set fairly high (1200 x 1200). 5. Also note, you have to purchase Adobe creator separately if you want to create PDF documents. Overall, for its price, you get decent, albeit slow, scanner--good if you use your scanner occasionally.

Slow, hard to install,
By
This review is from: HP ScanJet G3110 Photo Scanner - Scanner à plat - 220 x 300 mm - 4800 ppp x 9600 ppp - Hi-Speed USB (Office Product)
This is the 5th HP scanner or all in one device that I have had. I still have the others or they were working when I gave them away. The G3110 is terrible. It is hard to install. Even with the updated software I could not get it to install to one computer. It would work with another one so possibly in the first case the problem lies with the computer.
However this scanner is very slow. The software is awkard to use. My HP scanjet 5470 is much easier to use and faster. I'm not sure what has gotten intao HP software designers but their recent scanner software is nothing to brag about. I would suggest advoiding this scanner. If you buy it get from someplace where it is easy to return when you are unhappy with it. |
