Not sure why everyone else is so upset,

I'm not sure why everyone else's reviews are so negative. The machine boots up so quickly--it goes from asleep to functional in 5 seconds. Literally. I haven't played with the touch screen apps a whole lot but this machine does a great job ripping and burning media discs. It has a fast hard drive and optical drive and provides flawless playback of DVD movies. I haven't used the TV tuner yet but my sister has on her computer and loves it. DVR without having to pay a monthly fee! Windows 7 doesn't feel that different from Vista, and regardless of whether you like it or not, this is a great machine. My only real complaint is that the super-thin keyboard has a slightly different layout of the delete key (it's huge!) and it throws an experienced typist off for the first little while. Other than that, an incredible, relatively portable machine for less than a decent laptop.
The days of people opening up their computers and tinkering with the parts inside have passed. I worked at a laptop repair facility for years and used to be a stalwart opponent of Macs, all-in-ones, and laptops for people who did not need portable computing. Recently, however, I have changed my mind--computers are so cheap and peripherals are advancing so quickly compared to the processors, RAM, etc. that computers have become replaceable as a unit and not cost-effectively serviceable with replacement parts. I bought this computer to replace my "serviceable" home-made unit and absolutely love it. It will get me by for the next 3-5 years, and then I will replace it as a unit instead of trying to "upgrade" it one part at a time. The real appeal of this computer, besides its looks, is that there is only one cord--a power cord. It has made my office much more tidy and pleasant to work in. I can move the computer to a different room in the house by unplugging its one cord and carrying it. The touchscreen is just an added bonus.

Great Package. Great Support!!!!!,

Everybody loves this computer! It is a real show stopper with the all-in-one design and the creative touches. The designers did a great job with this and all my friends insist on playing with it.
I got the computer for my Mother-in-Law (whom I adore) because she has been a computer phobe and the touchscreen, the wireless keyboard and mouse, and the installed HP apps really lend themselves to breaking down some of those barriers. But, most of all, I love the support that I got from the HP techs on a networking issue that I had due to another product. These guys spent hours on the phone with me troubleshooting what turned out to be another manufacturer's problem. They were incredibly knowledgeable on lots of aspects of the system and helped me for a long time on Thanksgiving evening. All that said, I'm still iffy on Windows 7. <LOL>

I am a 76 year old senior, not terribly literate on computers, but I love this one.It does everything so easily and if you are not sure it gives you easy instructions. I love the ease of changing from the touch use to the using of the mouse. I thought it would be complicated. The screen is so bright and clear I can use the computer without my glasses, which is a real plus. It is so easy to use and so far I have had no problem with Windows 7 Home Premium. I highly recommend this to anyone. The speaker system is also so clear. Much better than my old Dell.

I just bought this computer a couple weeks ago and works great. I have it wall mounted (no keyboard or mouse needed) in my kitchen streaming movies and music from my other computer using libraries (windows 7 file sharing). I would not recommend this as a replacement computer but as a multimedia hot spot somewhere in your home. works great in your kitchen to listen to music or stream videos while washing the dishes or cooking up something to eat. Like i said before I would not recommend this as a primary computer. This computer works great as a secondary multimedia unit.

I have this on my desk...and I'm using it to type this review. For me, it's a great machine and does all that I could ask of it.
HOWEVER, when you check with those who actually SERVICE computers, you'll discover that the One Touch machines are considered LAP TOP machines. You cannot add to them. Not memory...or a card to receive television...so when looking, check this machine over carefully.

Garbage,

My computing needs are not extensive-- internet explorer, itunes, & word processing comprise the vast majority of my computing activity. I am not someone who tricks up their computer in any way-- pretty basic stuff that this device can't seem to handle. It freezes up muliple times, daily. It won't run programs it should easily be able to run. Itunes is a nightmare on it-- is that apple's fault, hp's fault, microsoft's fault? Who knows, who cares-- doesn't work half the time, that's all that matters to me. Buyer beware, this is easily the worst major purchase I have made in my life. Cannot wait to get my next computer & put this debacle behind me.

My Hp Touchsmart will be turning 3 years in November of 2011, and thus far I have had little problems. In fact, my biggest complaint of this purchase would be about the mouse included, it is horrible, I would suggest you buy your own. The computer is fast, reliable, and delivers a consistent user experience. I will not admit however, it has not had its hiccups, about 3 months ago it shutdown twice due problems with it's cooling system, but a simple vacuum clean up fixed the situation. I would highly recommend this computer to the average user who is willing to pay the extra price for an all in one. Bellow I have included some pros and cons. Good luck!
Pros: *easy set up(just the power cord and the Ethernet[if wifi is unavailable]) *fast boot time *great ultra thin keyboard *lots of usb plugins (5) *small profile, so it can fit in the smallest office Cons: *no bluetooth(a separate usb dongle can be purchased however [$30]) *no ambient light for the keyboard (only on the 600 series, hp might make a misleading impression on this issue) *the mouse is not even in par with my paperweight *technical assistance is outsourced and a disgrace to call(though i never really needed too!) *sony's stick pro memory card gets stuck in the card reader and i have to use tweezers to get it out

I wasn't looking for a new computer, my old computer which was an HP just shut off one day, so I ended up with a new Touch Screen. The computer itself runs normal. IMO Windows 7 is faster in response time but doesn't offer much more than a few trickles and bells compared to Vista. I only use my computer for word, web browsing, movies, and hosting my media collection. I depend on my computer to run these apps at once, quietly, and fast. This is something that is done by most well built computers. For the first few days I had the computer the touch screen is quite fascinating, but after a while you tend to question the actual usefulness of this. Most of the time you will find yourself using your mouse and keyboard instead of touching the screen, quite frankly it's faster. The touch screen has odd response time in some situations, but it is not a bad computer. The best is the touchsmart application. You can run your music, photos, web, video, through a program which focuses on touch use (in fact it is easier to touch than dragging the mouse around). The program reminds you why you brought a touch screen instead of a another computer with more tech and less price. Touchsmart also has special built applications to netflix, pandora, hulu, and can be personalized to add youtube and any other application you want. Another thing about the touchsmart which most people don't bring up is the space saving it provides. This was the reason I brought it instead of a normal windows computer. The monitor/hard drive are connected and the keyboard and mouse are wireless (you don't need batteries).
Overall it's a good computer, but I have decided that I am going to get a mac later this year. If you want more power go for the 600 and make up-grades if you plan to do intensive gaming or programming. Other than that it is a good general use computer out of the box and is worth it's price, but I wouldn't spend over a grand.

Not a fan....,
This review is from: HP TouchSmart 300-1020 20-Inch Black Desktop PC (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers)
We purchased the Touchsmart to eliminate clutter in the office with cords, accessories, etc. The unit has a great look to it, past that I really don't have much good to say about the unit. I've replaced the hard drive 3 times since 2008 and had to wipe the computer clean 2 other times because it will not function. I have never seen a new computer that needs to have a hard drive replaced on 3 separate occasions or doesn't have the memory and capacity to handle normal day to day functions. We did not use this for music or pictures after the first two crashes due to losing so much information. Any toolbars or additional accessories that HP put on the computer at purchase actually hinder the processing capability of the unit. I have used HP at the office for a number of years using their commercial line of products and have never had this many issues. I will not purchase another HP home unit again after this debacle. I have a 18 month old product that i would literally throw out the window if I hadn't spent $1300.
