First I should mention that I only use this laptop for about two weeks, and this is my first tablet PC. So be cautioned for my unintended bias.

Pros:
1. the price. You cannot find other tablets on the market with similar specs (e.g., cpu, HD, and ram) at this price range. Tablets from Lenovo or Dell would cost you double.
2. The cpu (i3-ulv) seems to be (or more than) powerful enough for most applications. I don't play computer games, but I do lots of cpu-demanding scientific computing. It turns our that this machine works pretty well, and the response is quick.
3. The metallic design looks modern and cool; the build quility is great.
4. Good battery life. I think it can run for 5, 6 hrs on battery (but I should confess that the estimate comes from one of the windows 7 desktop gadgets; i haven't empirically tested it myself).

Cons:
1. Maybe it's because of the 7200 rps HD, I can sense a constant vibration when I lay my palm on it while typing.
2. The static from the HD and fan (or something else?) can become a little too noticable in a quiet environment.
3. The air blown out of the vent can get warm under high CPU utilization. Right now it's not bothering me at all, but if I switched the cpu to i5 then the heat might be a point of concern.
4. The useable screen area is actully one inch less than the proclaimed 12.1".
5. The laptop is preloaded with too many bloatwares.

But overall this is a great tablet at an affordable price. Highly recommended.

I love this laptop. I would pick this over a macbook anyday. My sister has a brandnew macbook and is jealous of mine. Only downside is no external disk drive but that isn't a big deal for me. You can flip the screen a million ways, use it completely as a touchscreen or use the touch screen and the key board, or use it as a normal laptop. The webcam is exellent, the 3 second count down is a plus. The screen is an ideal size, not to big but not a mini either. Very light and portable and the battery lasts the longest of any laptop ive even seen. (approx. 10 hours!) Also, it doesn't overheat, it does get hot if you leave it on a blanket or what not, but so does everything else. Barly any noise, volume is easy to control and the fingerprint scanner is just damn awesome! I would have prefered it to have been on the base of the laptop instead of the side of the screen but you get use to it. All the downsides are minor and could have been avoided if i read the whole description, but this is a great laptop.

This is really an amazing machine, about as fast of a processor as you can get in a laptop right now w/out spending 2,000 (mine has an i5) and 3d accelerated graphics, plus excellent battery life (I'm getting 4-5 hours w/accelerated graphics on and 7-8 with them off). I can run office, do programming and graphics modeling on it comfortably. The touch screen works great (I build touch screen applications for phones and this lets me test them out). And all this for less then 1,000 whereas other similarly powered laptops would cost more & be a lot bigger and heavier.

My only complaint is the super glossy screen. In daylight I have to turn up the screen brightness to adjust for the glossy effect.

Best to order this from HP.com, as you can now get it with a core i5 & they give you discounts as well. I've bought several machines from them now & have yet to be disappointed.
