Best Tablet Value On the Market,

This review is from: HP TouchSmart tm2-2057sb 12.1-Inch Riptide Argento Laptop (Personal Computers)
I've been using this tablet for about a month now, as my primary laptop. It replaced the previous model, the TX2, which I used for about 18 months. While the TX2 was very cool, it was also painfully slow, had a grainy screen, and terrible touch screen recognition. All of these issues have been fixed with the TM2.
The laptop is powered by the new Intel Core i3 processor, which is very fast. Once you've uninstalled the bloatware that comes on all HP machines, this is easily one of the faster sub $1,000 laptops available. Photoshop CS5 runs just fine. The multi-touch and pen inputs are very accurate, and the keyboard is quite comfortable. The screen is much improved over the previous model, and the picture is very clear and bright. The viewing angles are sub-par though, and the screen is super glossy. Taking notes in Microsoft OneNote on this tablet is a wonderful experience. The included stylus also includes an eraser, which is a big help. Navigation with a finger and the virtual keyboard is also very good. I probably spend about half my time in tablet mode, without needing the keyboard and touch pad. All said, this is probably the best consumer tablet PC on the market. PROS: -Tablet is quite fast. Multitasking is great with 4GB of RAM. -Stays very cool, even with so much packed into such a small area. -The tablet is absolutely gorgeous. -Great Battery Life. 5-6 hours easily. CONS: -Incredibly Glossy Screen -Sub-par viewing angles -Too much pre-installed bloatware (although this problem plagues most consumer PCs)

This laptop is great. Screen does have glare, battery could be bigger, but the graphics and speed and touch screen are perfect.

HP TouchSmart tm2-2057sb 12.1-Inch Riptide Argento LaptopI bought three of these notebooks for my office. I'm a physician and we're attempting to go paperless in my office. Apparently there is an incompatibility issue with the network cards between MS and HP which the higher ups of HP had already been aware of. The connection had been slow with frequent droppings of the connections. After multiple calls to the HP tech support by my IT guy and finally reaching the higher ups of the HP, IT chain it was clear that the problems were already known, but only by the higher ups, and were being addressed. Unfortunately it cost me an additional $2,000 in IT services to figure this out. At the moment we're bypassing my network by using the USB connected, portable network card, also and additional charge. HP will be sending me three network cards that my IT guy will be replacing. I think he feels sorry for me because he says he won't be charging me to replace the cards.

This laptop looks very good on paper in terms of specs. However in actual use it has the following serious flaws.
The screen is the worst I have ever used: contrast is bad; viewing angle is bad; glare is unbearable. You cannot use this laptop on a sunny day outside even under the shade. It is so reflective that I could easily shave in front of its screen. You better use this laptop in a windowless office with indirect lighting. The location of the center of gravity of the body is such that if you place it (screen opened) on a surface sloping a little bit downward, such as your lap, the keyboard tilts upwards. You have to press your hands on the keyboard (or the touch pad) to keep it level. Very inconvenient. The touch pad is a single piece and implemented very badly. I move one finger on the pad to navigate, and keep another finger on the bottom of the pad to click, barely touching the pad. The click finger somehow always interferes with the navigation of the move finger. This problem never happens with a MacBook which has the same one-piece touch pad. To me, the touchpad is practically unusable, so I always keep a small mouse with this laptop. Some positive points are the keyboard (one of the best I have used); good specs (eg memory size, HD capacity, descent CPU.); and the built quality of the body. Overall I would return this product if I could. Unfortunately, it is a business purchase and I have to live with it until the next replacement cycle. After that no more HP hardware for me.

I bought this notebook expecting portability and some performance, as I chose the Intel i3 processor. The notebook is very stylish, well finished, not so light as I expected. The touchscreen is very nice and I use it for reading e-stuff in the bed or in the sofa. Battery life is very good. No problem with external buttons as others said. HDMI output is fine. The keyboard is fantastic. The touchpad is very good, you just need some time to get used to it. Bluetooth is fine, wifi is fine, camera is fine.
As I work with AutoCAD I need to open some DWG files and work on them. I didn't expect to work continuously with CAD files at a 12 inch screen, but when I am in transit it is necessary for small adjustments. I can barely review the files, it is to slow that even drawing a simple line is very difficult.

Returned in a day. Cheap screen - glossy like a mirror and terrible viewing angles (about 5 degrees in the portrait mode!), wobbly on the lap. HP designers need to be ashamed of themselves for letting the product out before fixing sch glaring issues.
