I bought this laptop a few months ago, not from here. but somewhere else. the laptop itself is great. there's only two ways to unlock this. one is by password, the other finger prints. which you can scan up to 10 on one user. it's small, lightweight, and portable. the touch screen with out the stylus is somewhat touch sensative, meaning you have to either tap, or press...

2.0 out of 5 stars Heat issues = early death, June 16, 2011
This review is from: HP Touchsmart TX2 12.1-Inch Notebook (Personal Computers)
I bought my TX2Z shortly before starting a college program. It lasted just under 2 years before the motherboard failed. About 6 months or so after purchase, the CPU cooling fan began to run much more frequently. After about a year, it ran constantly. I frequently used compressed air to blow out the vents (the cooling fins appeared clean) and even removed the DVD drive, in case it was helping to cause the heat build-up. Finally, the weekend before an exam and one week before finals, it failed and flashing lights on the keyboard signaled a motherboard failure. I had been using a cooling pan w/dual fans anytime I was on A/C power (80% of the time during the first year of ownership and almost 100% of the time after that), so I don't believe I caused the failure with poor ventilation.

When it worked properly, I really liked it. However, it seems that motherboard failures related to heat build-up are common in this line. Shame on you, HP!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mother Board Failures, November 28, 2011
This review is from: HP Touchsmart TX2 12.1-Inch Notebook (Personal Computers)
The main problem with this line is the mother board failing. This is due to the GPU overheating and becoming detached from the motherboard. It is a fixable problem, but you have to take the entire laptop apart and use a heat gun to melt it back into place and then put the whole thing back together. There are lots of videos on youtube about how to fix it, so if you have one, just do research about how to take it apart and then about how to fix the chip. It's basically the exact same thing that happens to Xbox's when the get the Red Ring of Death.

1.0 out of 5 stars piece of junk, November 23, 2011
This review is from: HP Touchsmart TX2 12.1-Inch Notebook (Personal Computers)
this is the worst computer I've ever had in my life
heated like a kitchen, it is impossible to use on your lap, because you will burn insurance!
sometimes becomes slow, I had to reformat, reinstall all programs, many times, and continues slow
during its first year, spent about 8 months in the workshop, for warranty and they never properly repaired
and is turning 3 years, and the screen has problems with sensitivity, heat even more than before, there are days that the battery will not charge, and sometimes if I disconnect the power adapter turns off the computer regardless of whether the battery is full.
oh and forgot! this computer has burned 4 adapters!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Two of mine also died early heat deaths, October 28, 2011

I bought three of these to use at the office, and two of them have already died the infamous "blinking lights and dead screen" death, after about two years of use. They do run extremely hot, and if you have one that still is running I recommend you turn all the power management settings to maximum power savings, even when plugged in, to try and extend its life. Another problem with this model is the very soft plastic on the screen. Mine have developed very deep opaque ruts, just with routine daily use with the provided pens. Another problem is the awkward battery placement. They don't show it on any of the promotional pictures, but the battery sticks out very far on the hinge side, making it a lot harder to carry.

On the plus side, the physical design aside from the battery is very good, with the machine working well in both notebook and tablet configurations. The battery life is good for how powerful the CPU and graphics are. The screen is large and bright. The price was good for a unit with these features. The pen and digitizer work very nicely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very usefull, June 17, 2011
This review is from: HP Touchsmart TX2 12.1-Inch Notebook (Personal Computers)
Even though the model is not the latest, it is still a laptop worth buying. I bought it in Japan, second hand, because of the keyboard (it has next to western, also Japanese letters on it).
Now running with Windows 7 and and after a firmware update it touchscreen accepts two touchpoints, which is fine by me.
The touchscreen is capacative and there is a stylus as well. I use it mainly to go through my language program and am able to use the laptop as a touchpad and only use my fingers or stylus on the screen.
There was a problem, the fan became very loud and I almost wanted to sell the laptop. But I thought it over and realized that it was on high capacity, so the processor was on high speed all the time. After putting the laptop into power saving mode, the noise was gone. The fan turns on occasionally and not at it's highest speed. The laptop is fast enough for my needs and the few games I run on it go smoothly.
Even though the screen is small, it is nice to watch movies on (especially since it doesn't have a shiny surface)..

All in all..I would recommend this laptop to anyone who thinks of buying it.
