4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice
Got this as a gift and was very pleased when it arrives (as was the recipient). The mouse is a good size, even for larger hands. The usb dongle is very small,a nd stays out of the way. it also can be stuck inside the battery compartment during transport.

Bottom Line: I would recommend this to a friend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice mouse, not-so-great software, February 25, 2010

I wanted a wireless mouse with a nano receiver for my new laptop. Having blown a lot of money on the said laptop, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a mouse. This HP Wireless Comfort Mobile mouse looked good--nano receiver, two extra buttons on the sides of the mouse, and cost about $15-20 less than those from Microsoft or Logitech. I wanted to test one in person before buying it, but none of the stores around here carried the HP line of mice, so I bought one sight unseen from Amazon.

The mouse itself is pretty good. The form factor is consistent as other "laptop" mice--small and comfortable. The scroll wheel is a bit stiffer and thus takes more effort to roll than the mice I have used from Microsoft or Logitech, but not in a bad way. One nice feature is that you can side-scroll left or right with the scroll wheel button. Whereas some higher-end mice you can use the horizontal axis of the scroll wheel button to program two additional "clicking" functions, on this HP mouse you can only scroll. It came with an Energizer battery with a power-interrupting strip of plastic over one of the battery terminals. The mouse feels good in the hand, although the side buttons (one on each side) are much easier to access for those who "palm" the mouse (the whole hand rests over the mouse) than those who "claw" the mouse (index and middle fingers over the left and right buttons, thumb on the side). The mouse is symmetrical for both right and left handed users. It uses invisible "laser" (infrared?) to track motion, not the red LED light.

So the mouse itself is pretty good. Where this product fails to shine is the bundled software. The package states it supports Windows XP and Vista. I have Windows 7. So I didn't expect it to necessarily work right out of the box, and it didn't. Downloading the latest mouse driver from the HP site took care of the issue. One warning for Windows 7 users: If you've already installed the driver from the CD that came with the mouse, then when you download latest driver and try to install it, you'll get a message saying that the latest driver is already installed, do you still want to install this one? YES you do--it'll update the software from something like 10.0.1 to 10.0.2, and that's what recognized the mouse on my Windows 7 laptop.

Did I mention that the software is less than satisfactory. After you've gotten the computer and the mouse to talk, and everything is working fine, launching the HP Mouse Driver app will ALWAYS result in an error message saying, "Mouse Not Detected!" Very annoying. However, the HP app will show up in the task bar as a mouse icon, and you can access the mouse properties there to customize the buttons, etc. It would've been very nice if I could assign keyboard strokes to the two side buttons (since I do a lot of tabbed browsing, it'd been nice to assign "open in new tab" and "close current tab" keystrokes to those buttons. But no. You can only assign a limited Windows functions to the two side buttons--launch Windows Explorer, run Calculator, run Microsoft Word, etc. You can assign the scroll-wheel button functionality to one of the buttons, which will do the "open in a new tab" function.

One critical omission of the driver software: There is no setting to control how fast the cursor moves across the screen! That seems like such a basic feature to be missing.

All in all, I'm happy enough with the mouse itself. The software leaves a lot to be desired, as does the HP support website. But, for the price, it's a good value for those looking for an affordable wireless mouse with a nano receiver.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Fit, October 19, 2009
This review is from: HP Wireless Comfort Mobile Mouse (Moonlight) (Personal Computers)
I love my HP Wireless Comfort Mobile Mouse. It's moonlight white and perfectly matches my HP laptop. Amazon was the only place that had this in stock and was less than $45. I tried with eCOST but the whole thing was a mess with back order this and that. Anyway, mouse is perfect size, intuitive, and responsive to movement (I use for photoshop).

This mouse is actually smaller than it looks in the photos. It is light weight and matches with my laptop perfectly. It is very responsive and works on all the surfaces I tried. For default button-assignments, there is no need for installation; it's simply plug and play. The only not-so-great part about this mouse is the scroll wheel which is little too stiff for my taste.

Bought several mice during the past year and this is the best. If you have a Logitech and are having problems problems with your XT or Win7 uninstall mouse software and try another mouse, ran me ragged before I discovered the mouse software was the problem. Battery life of this mouse is exceptional, I have big paw so cannot utilize the extra buttons on the side but really appreciate the positive feedback of the standard buttons and scroll wheel with scroll lock. Imediately purchased another for my work laptop. Sorry about Logitech's software issues with MS XT and Win7. I am a loyal Logitech guy.

Got the mouse to match my Moonlight laptop - love it! Plugged it in, and within 5 seconds it was synced and working. Comfortable, easy, and who doesn't love that 1/2 inch (or less) USB port stick. Great product!

I bought the little wireless mouse to go with my new laptop. I was just the right color. I looked at office stores and on line before I decided to get this one. No one had the right color and size until I found this one. It has a small plug to go into the laptop which is really nice for storing, etc.

I bought the "Moonlight" mobile mouse to match the HP Pavillion "Moonlight" laptop I recently purchased. I wanted a consistent look on my desk and this really does it for me.

I had some difficulty at first, getting the software to recognize that the mouse was connected to my lapopt. After a second restart everything was working perfectly.

The USB dongle for this mouse is small enough to leave in the laptop even when I pack it in the laptop case, I was originally skeptical about this.

I really like the fact that this mouse has an on/off switch on the bottom, unlike the last mobile USB mouse where I had to clip the dongle onto the bottom of the mouse to turn it off. This will definitely lead to an extended battery life.

Overall I am very happy with this mouse and look forward to using it for a long time.

2010-11-11 Updating here, I purchased a second mouse and there was an intermittent failure of the left button to click; about 40% of the time, very annoying.

[Original review]...I really like this mouse! It is not so small as to be lost in a large hand, yet not so big as to be a hassle storing in a laptop bag. It has a nice feel, a sharp look; fit and finish appear first class. It actually looks much nicer then the photo here at Amazon. The sides were you grip it have a pleasant feeling rubberized coating.

The transmitter is very small, no larger then a postage stamp and I can leave it in my Asus netbook all the time without fear of damaging it.

As I said it works great with my netbook but I also found out it is a great mouse for my home theater PC, so I ordered a second one for that machine. In my HTPC the transmitter is plugged into one of the front USB ports on the case and the mouse operates perfectly from about 12-feet away. Of course that distance might change in your environment.

I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others......Please note, at the time I purchased this item it was being sold by Amazon directly not a third party.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bought it because of the price, was for worth it, November 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HP Wireless Comfort Mobile Mouse (Moonlight) (Personal Computers)
Bought this mouse about 8 months ago. It was 8 dollars at that time, looked like a good deal. After the first couple of weeks, the rubber on the sides got dirty - something I had already predicted, since the mouse is fully white. About a month ago, the scroll wheel became loose, sometime I spin it and the page doesn't scroll. Now the middle button has got some problems as well. I have to click it very hard for it to work, and when it does, it clicks twice - really annoying.
8 months after buying it, I have to buy another mouse, do the math. It was not worth it.
