I love the thinness of the keyboard! And it's a really great product for being so cheap. I have two gripes with this product: a) The USB key turns a bright blue color when you are using this. If you have the USB key anywhere near your peripheral vision, this is a big distraction. I would love to turn it off but I haven't found out how to do that yet. b) The mouse...

After using this product for several days I have grown to love the keyboard. The keys are spaced perfectly, it has just the right amount of feedback, and is nearly silent.

I was looking for simplicity( I have never really used shortcut keys) and volume controls, are all I really need. It does have programmable F-keys that can be used as media controls, eject, and monitor brightness. I find typing more comforatable on a flat surface as opposed to raised up on a wristpad. Keyboard 5/5.

On the other "hand" the mouse is terrible. It is a decent size, comfortable in your hand and glides along a pad or desk smoothly. The scroll wheel is very smooth as well, BUT I have never used a mouse that required so much effort to click. It literally needs to be pressed so hard that everytime I right click, my right arm moves up and to the right, causing the mouse pointer to move off my target frequently.

If I could do it over I would purchase the keyboard by itself http://www.amazon.com/Hewlett-Packard-FQ480AA-Wireless-Elite-Keyboard/dp/B001IOHAVO/ref=sr_1_36?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1245364930&sr=1-36 and use the savings on another mouse. It is about 25 dollars cheaper for just the keboard here on amazon.
Check out my pictures, this thing looks great on a desk. 4/5

5.0 out of 5 stars Works with Linux, April 15, 2009

I haven't had this product very long, but I wanted to let potential buyers know that it *does* work with Linux. I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 and I just plugged it in and it worked. The USB subsystem recognized it immediately and I was using it within a couple minutes of taking it out of the box.

The keyboard itself and the mouse are quite nice. I have no complaints. That said, this keyboard is probably not for everybody. If you use a keyboard for a living, like I do, you tend to be very particular about what you like and don't. For me, this works. Others - particularly those who don't like laptop keyboards or flat (almost no contour), low-profile keys - may not care for it.

The mouse is perfect in its simplicity and has a nice heavy feel to it.

One very small annoyance: if you use the front USB slot on your computer - or any slot where the USB portion of the device is in view - the light may bother you. It's very bright and very blue - and it's on whenever you type or move the mouse. Thus, depending on what you're doing, it can be effectively blinking and quite distracting.

So I've been using this keyboard and mouse combo for about an hour. I just unpacked it and set it up.

Very easy setup - the Keyboard is great - sleek, stylish, compact, easy to type on and is well built.

The mouse is the polar opposite. Although comfortable in my large hands, it just screams CHEAP. Its buttons are very loud and just feel cheap. And now, literally, 1 hour into using it, the left mouse button is not clicking properly. I have to click down hard. Defective? Yes, maybe the others are not going to have this problem.

But i've been working with mice for 16 years.. and this one is one of the cheapest poorly made ones i've seen.

If you really like the keyboard, buy it separately and get a different mouse.

Final annoyance, the dongle receiver has the brightest blue led light that flashes with every keystroke/mouse movement. Annoying as heck.

Although i like the keyboard, this ones' going back. I'm going to go with the new logitech setups that use the same micro receiver for mouse/keyboard. And since i have two laptops, the extra reciever can be used to hook up both!

I bought this keyboard because I liked its slim profile and its simplicity. The keys weren't easy to type on and the feeling of my nails scraping the material the keys were made of sent shivers down my spine. Additionally, it was not well constructed and seemed very cheaply made.

The mouse was fine, though it went through batteries extremely fast. I didn't like that it didn't have back/forward buttons or sideways scrolling.

The keyboard died after less than a year of use for no reason. I replaced it with the Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000 and am much happier.

3.0 out of 5 stars Trick to make this keyboard a winner., February 5, 2010

Intallation of this combo was a piece of cake.
Everything recognized no problems.

Than I started typing on this keyboard and I hated it.
They have 4 keys on the bottom left instead of 3 and I kept hitting the Windows key instead of the alt key. Drove me nuts.

I went to the internet and found Keytweak (Free). This program made it a snap to remap the keyboard. I turned that Windows Key into another "Left Alt" key and now I'm a happy camper.

Yes the Mouse makes a loud click but I don't find it any harder to click than any other mouse. Actually I decided the Mouse was two big and bulky and I have a extra USB port so I scrapped the mouse for a notebook model mouse

If I had to do it again I would have just bought the Keyboard.

I give it a 3 star instead of 5 because I had to remap the keys, it also doesn't have a led light telling you when cap locks or scroll is on. and finally I scrapped the mouse.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good keyboard, so-so-mouse and one significant flaw..., November 26, 2009
By
This review is from: HP Wireless Elite Keyboard and Mouse (Personal Computers)
This is, overall, a good wireless mouse and keyboard kit. I have owned it for about a year now and here are my thoughts:

Keyboard: The keys are spaced apart correctly and have a high-quality, solid feel to them when pressed. The keyboard is lightweight and sleek looking, and when compared to other wireless keyboards, is pretty good when it comes to battery usage. It takes two standard double-A batteries that only need to be replaced once every five to six months.

But there is one big flaw with this keyboard that disqualifies it from anything above a three star rating. HP placed the bottom-left "ALT" key in the wrong position. That key is supposed to be two keys to the right of CTRL, the way it is with basically every other PC keyboard on the planet. HP inexplicably spaced that ALT key three keys away, so the Windows key is now in the exact place where you would expect to find the ALT key. The result is that I find myself constantly pressing the Windows key when I intend to press ALT. You might ask -- won't you just get used to the different position for the ALT key? No, because on a daily basis I use a work desktop and laptop that have the ALT key in the correct position.

This may not be a big deal for some, but I regularly use keyboard shortcuts through the ALT key so this is an issue for me. I ended up fixing this problem through a Windows registry hack that literally reassigned the key assignments for the Windows and ALT keys, but that's a very advanced and risky solution I wouldn't recommend for most people.

Mouse: The mouse is not as good as the keyboard, but it's okay. It has a shiny and glossy finish that I don't particularly like, but the buttons and roller have a good quality feel to them.

Wireless transceiver: The mouse and keyboard connect through a small Bluetooth wireless transceiver that plugs into a USB port. The transceiver has a bright blue LED that lights up anytime you're using the mouse or keyboard, which can be distracting for some. Compatibility is good, though, and the transceiver has worked on every PC that I've tried.

4.0 out of 5 stars sleek keyboard & uncomfortable mouse, September 3, 2009
This review is from: HP Wireless Elite Keyboard and Mouse (Personal Computers)
I am less than 24 hrs into this keyboard. The keyboard looks sleek on my desk as it does in the store. I got it for my laptop in a docking station. The vertical travel of keys is short (even shallower than my DELL laptop), so presumably I can type really fast once I get used to it. Make sure you try that out in a store to see if you like it.

The mouse slopes down in the front, causing the fingers and hand to hold it in a weird position, straining it quite a bit. I'll have to find an unconventional way of holding it to avoid carpal tunnel... Worse yet, the surface is glossy and feels sticky from normal perspiration. It's unfortunate they bundle this mouse with the keyboard.

Overall, I like the simplicity. Plug and go. No fuss. If it was silver and anodized aluminum, you'd pretty have a cool Apple keyboard. But I like it the way it is for my PC.

2.0 out of 5 stars Love the keyboard - the mouse is too loud and hard to use, August 24, 2009
This review is from: HP Wireless Elite Keyboard and Mouse (Personal Computers)
I love the keyboard. It is thin and the keys are easy to use, comfortable. But the mouse is so loud. I've never had a mouse that loud before, even the old ones. And, my finger cramped up after only ten minutes. I'm sending it back. I might get just the keyboard and a different mouse.

5.0 out of 5 stars An elegant keyboard, July 25, 2009
This review is from: HP Wireless Elite Keyboard and Mouse (Personal Computers)
I got this to use on my hdtv computer - and found that it was so slick that didn't want to use my standard keyboards anymore. I put a 1" snip of black electrical tape over 2/3 of the LED window on the usb receiver so that the light doesn't distract me. One needs to get used to a the location of the 'Insert' button is on the top row of keys.
Overall it's an elegant keyboard:

Keys: quiet, sensitive and rugged enough - although I'd keep it away from the 3-yr old. Easy to get used to typing on it.

Body: heavy enough to stay-put and give it a solid feel.

Size: the edges are just big enough to give you something to hold on to while picking it up or balancing it on your lap. razor thin profile ;)

Oh - I got the mouse combo - the mouse is just fine, with one outstanding feature: an on/off switch on the bottom which you can use to conserve the battery while not in use (*turns off the lazer) ....cool

have fun!
