I'm able to play games, watch TV, movies, and access my music without having to have a cable cut across my living room.

UPDATE: Just figured I should add that after returning the defective unit, a few months later HP actually sent me a working unit for free and apologized.

Pressing the reset button on the transmitter does cause the blue LED to flash, but it eventually goes away and still does not link.

Unfortunately, I had a fairly terrible experience with the HP Wireless TV Connect (2). I haven't used the original iteration, which was reviewed relatively well, but the new revision underperformed during the week that I used it. Out of the box, it had a hard time establishing a connection. The device is rated to handle 30 feet and is not line-of-sight dependent. I had the receiver positioned one floor directly above the transmitter in a new home and tried to keep everything as out in the open as possible to avoid interference. I was probably about 18 feet away total. Establishing the initial connection was pretty difficult, it took several attempts of connecting, disconnecting, etc, before I actually got a proper feed transmitting. Once a feed was established, overall performance was flakey. It would work like a champ for about an hour, then start dropping out, disconnecting, etc. I do have a 5ghz 802.11n router nearby, but it didn't seem to be a factor as disabling it or switching channels made no real difference.

When it worked, it worked well enough. Latency is imperceptible, so it's great for gaming. Audio came through fine. The compression is interesting, it's very high frequency and instead of getting block artifacts, you almost get a sort of very sharp grain. When the signal is coming through strong, the compression isn't noticeable, but if the signal is being attenuated, the compression becomes pretty unsightly. Unfortunately, it worked far less than half the time I tried using it. Waking from sleep was always roulette, occasionally my computer would wake and the screen would come up quickly, but usually the connection would fail to reconnect. The device doesn't give you a whole lot of feedback during this time.

I was a little concerned about buying this product. The previous reviews were awful and I was afraid on ending with the same bad feeling. However, talking to some guys at HP I heard that there was some kind of a technical problem with the first batch of devices which prevented the devices from linking and that the problem was resolved. As all reviews noted that once connected the product worked flawlessly, I decided to give it a try. I bought it and I am glad I did so. Installation is easy. Just connect the receiver box to the TV through USB and HDMI, connect the transmitter stick-like part to USB and HDMI of a laptop and SHAZAM - you get a mirror of your desktop on the TV. I also used it with my PS3 and BD player. Works great. I only wish I could buy one for each device and have them work with the same receiver box. Also, it would have been great if there was no need for the USB on the laptop side. Why doesn't HDMI provide power?!

To summarize:

Good - easy installation, superb quality, no lag.
Bad - USB cable on the transmitter side is a bummer. Still, much better than everything else I have tried.

Ive had this for about a year now, and it works great! At first, the problem was trying to find a stable connection. But after about 20 min or so of playing around with it, I found a spot that gets around 4 out of 5 bars of reception. Granted, the base sits about 3 ft away from my tv and exposes my HDMI wire, but I have a table next to my tv where it just sits there. This is connected to my laptop in my room in an upstairs townhouse, and picks up a non lagging signal to my downstairs 47 inch tv. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard sitting downstairs so I can do everything on my laptop on my tv. I can even stream 1080p movies without any lag or choppiness. The only problem with this which is consistent is that there is no off switch or automatic shutoff for the base, so it remains on and heats up when not in use. But I just unplug the power mini usb from the base whenever Im done with it. IMO, this product is one of the best products I've purchased, it makes it very convenient to watch cable (I have a slingbox), movies, youtube, do work, web browse, etc. on my tv without having to move my laptop all around the house and constantly plug/unplug wires.

If you are like me, and upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1, this device is not compatible. After 2 hours of trying to make a connection, I contacted HP and was told there are issues, that Microsoft is aware of, and unless I am willing to uninstall 8.1, and go back to Windows 8 there is no way this device will work. This would also mean uninstalling all the programs that I have added, and starting over. There are no upgrades or patches offered by HP. So, I'll wait and hope that Microsoft will fix what is needed with Windows 8.1 and re-order when they do. Sorry Amazon, sure wish you had mentioned this in your description before I placed my order.

UPDATE:
Just figured I should add that after returning the defective unit, a few months later HP actually sent me a working unit for free and apologized. I still prefer the iogear that I purchased, but it restored a little faith in HP.

After seeing the great reviews for the previous version, I was excited to see that a new 3d compatible and better looking version was coming out. So I had Amazon over night it the second it came in stock. Got it the next day, hooked it up to my media center and projector....and nothing. Receiver seemed to work fine and would display "linking" on the screen, but the transmitter just sat there doing nothing. I tried it on my Xbox 360, computer, av receiver. The transmitter did nothing plugged into any of them. In frustration I tried jamming the power plug into the transmitter, and low and behold there was blinking for a few seconds. That was it though, and it never connected in those short brief glorious seconds.

So I figured I must have just gotten a dud, and ordered a replacement through Amazon's magnificent returns system. New one arrived the following day. Just plugged it in...and nothing. Tried all my devices once again, and same result. Now at this point I should probably tell you that I have studied Electrical Engineering, have numerous certifications in a multitude of different areas, and I am a IT Administrator that lives by my gadget lust. So when I call tech support on a product, I assure you it is not because I forgot to plug something in or haven't tried rebooting it.
