UPDATE: 7 weeks later and this HP has been perfect.

So I called HP again and I was on the phone for 2.5 hours and it seemed like they were trying to DEVIATE from getting this repair.
Lonnie
Sure enough it was light because it didn't have a power supply.

Have only had the PC something like 3 days, and will update this review if needed, but so far it's all as advertised and expected, other than some issue on my own side in that I may have bought a machine that underperforms for what I need (my own fault, I rushed with the assumption that surely "any PC" around $300 will do simple video capture as I wanted a machine just dedicated to sitting and capturing and nothing else, but now not so sure, this is entirely my own issue and I can resolve it one way or another).

However, I was quite surprised by the extensive bloatware (unnecessary software) on the PC. I had bought a higher-end (than this, not top of the line but slightly upper end) PC from HP around 16 months or maybe longer ago and it had relatively little, aside from a number of HP utilities of dubious performance but no big deal (readily apparent and easy to turn off/on as desired). So I didn't expect the onslaught of absurd additional software packed onto this, ranging from some HP recipe software to other various software aimed at getting you to buy services. I spent well over half an hour just uninstalling software, much to my dismay. I realize this is an increasingly common trend and should have realized with HP's rush in the last year to be a "software company" they might have done something this annoying, but nonetheless disappointed in this respect.

I purchased this computer about 6 weeks ago and it arrived promptly. I was planning on moving at the end of the month so I didn't actually plug it in until I was at my new place.

Got it set up and everything was going swimmingly. Excel, Word, iTunes all are working well. Then I went to try to watch a video online and that's where the troubles began. At first I was able to watch a few episodes of Parks and Rec online, but after that first viewing the computer started crashing. Totally unresponsive, ctrl-alt-del doesn't work, have to just hold down the power button until it shuts off. Tried disabling flash hardware acceleration, uninstalled and re-installed firefox and ie, updated my drivers, did a clean boot, tried the microsoft fix-it tool, started it in selective startup, nothing doing. Then of course Microsoft tells me I have to purchase support if I want to talk to somebody about it.

You may be thinking to yourself, well just don't watch videos online. I agree, it's not a huge sacrifice. But you don't realize just how many websites have videos that load automatically until you have a computer that crashes every time it happens. NY Times(sometimes), ESPN, Epicurious, any website that automatically loads a video introduction. Trust me, they're everywhere.

It's frustrating, and without this glitch I would probably give this computer a much higher rating than 2 stars. Maybe you'll get one that this doesn't happen to, but in my experience you might want to shell out for something a little more expensive that has a slot to add a graphics card or something so you can get around the issue. Good luck.

I read the two other reviews of this PC and wasn't sure that I should still write my 5 star review. In all honesty, this PC replaced a 5 year old Dell so (to me) it seems incredibly fast and able to do Hurculean Tasks. Most of my needs revolve around Microsoft Office but do include multimillion record Databases as well as the most intensive spreadsheet and mail merge programs. This HP busts through all my data at speeds so great that I can't even run to the bathroom for a minute. I use Youtube all the time and have never had a problem with videos (I also am a big fan of ESPN.com and watch their short sports highlights all the time). In fairness to the other reviews about problems with online watching of longer videos from (I assume) Netflix or Hulu, I don't partake in that (And now I would be afraid to try - after reading about the result). Again, 5 Stars for this PC based upon my own simple needs of heavy duty Microsoft Office programs as well as basic web browsing (that includes all short videos from Youtube and ESPN, CNN, etc). I guess if you can afford more computer then go ahead and buy something else but I would definitely make this purchase again.

UPDATE: 7 weeks later and this HP has been perfect. I usually have it running 24 hours a day (last turned it off 2 weeks ago). My house has occassionally had power interruptions that obviously force the power off to every electronic in my house..... this HP restarts without any issues even under that stress. Wow, what a Great PC!

Like I stated on the title. It worked fine for 1 day and on the next day I tried turning it on and it would not turn on. Called HP and I was on the phone with them for 2 hours so they can tell me it was probably a power outlet issue. So I waited for a new power outlet and it turn out it was not even that. So I called HP again and I was on the phone for 2.5 hours and it seemed like they were trying to DEVIATE from getting this repair. They asked me questions like if my house had power and if I can go to a different house and try this. The desktop computer was good when I used it for 1 day but the customer service was very poor.
