Still, I only paid USD 100 so I could live with all that.

I am not sure what my battery life is, but it will operate for a full day with the type of use I am giving it.

I really like the small portable size and so far no issues.

This little android tablet is hands down one of best tablets that I have ever used. It is a beautiful looking device, great build quality and the sound is awesome with and without headphones. The beats audio option is a nice perk too. It is very fast, comfortable to hold in one hand and the battery life is good as well. You can multitask all day on one charge.

So far I have been able to install all of my apps without compatibility issues and WiFi connectivity works perfectly. The interface is intuitive and games look and play great! There is no bloatware on the device and all my media on my micro SD card was read instantly. At this price point, no you will not find a retina display and I would not compare it to my $800 iPad, but if you are in the market for a portable android device you cannot go wrong with this one.

I've only had my Slate 7 for a few days now, but I already like it. It is a little heavier than I expected, but that gives it a solid substantial feel; it isn't so heavy as to be a problem. I also bought the HP cover for the Slate and highly recommend it. One thing I don't like: Lack of Instructions. This is my first Android based device and ever since I got rid of my Commodore 64 back in the `80's, I've lived in a Microsoft world. (DOS, OS2 & Windows) I am slowly getting the hang of Android, but some written instructions would certainly be nice; it IS different. The only instruction supplied with the Slate was a brief Quick Start Guide. I haven't put a lot of Apps on the device yet, just email, Kindle for Android, Facebook and browsing. Email setup was fast and easy, both for my gMail account and my POP3 account. I don't care for the way Facebook operates on the Slate, but then that is probably the fault of the App and/or Android, not HP's doing. I have noticed that once in a while the Slate will not respond when I tap the screen to change screens. When this happens, I have to tap it again, sometimes multiple times before it will respond. I am not sure what my battery life is, but it will operate for a full day with the type of use I am giving it.

**UPDATE 11/26/2013** I've been using the Slate for a few months now. I do like the device, but it has some characteristics that I'm not too crazy about. My biggest complaint is the poor battery life. One of the main uses I have for it is to supplement my Kindle reader. To do this properly I must leave the Wi-Fi turned on or else the Slate will not synchronize with my Kindle. When I leave the Wi-Fi turned on, the Slate will only operate for about 3 hours before the battery gives out.

I am generally a Mac person, but I needed a small Android tablet for a specific purpose. I basically walked into the store and got the cheapest (actually the second cheapest) thing available, which happened to be this. I only paid the equivalent of about USD 100 so I can't really complain, but, well, in this world you really get what you pay for. First of all, there is a generally crummy feel to this machine - naturally I am used to Macs so I suppose that is part of it, but the entire thing really feels very cheap. The Android works well enough, but the keyboard input is also somewhat junky, and frankly also somewhat unreliable. I know the machine I bought is not a fake, but it all feels very much like a cheap copy.

Still, I only paid USD 100 so I could live with all that. What is really annoying is the battery life, which is ridiculous. It's more or less fine when it is charged and I am using it - the problem is that if I leave the device on sleep mode for even a couple of days, it just drains completely. It really is very inconvenient.
