Book Description

February 6, 2007 0471681628 978-0471681625 1
HPLC for Pharmaceutical Scientists is an excellent book for both novice and experienced pharmaceutical chemists who regularly use HPLC as an analytical tool to solve challenging problems in the pharmaceutical industry. It provides a unified approach to HPLC with an equal and balanced treatment of the theory and practice of HPLC in the pharmaceutical industry.

In-depth discussion of retention processes, modern HPLC separation theory, properties of stationary phases and columns are well blended with the practical aspects of fast and effective method development and method validation. Practical and pragmatic approaches and actual examples of effective development of selective and rugged HPLC methods from a physico-chemical point of view are provided.

This book elucidates the role of HPLC throughout the entire drug development process from drug candidate inception to marketed drug product and gives detailed specifics of HPLC application in each stage of drug development.

The latest advancements and trends in hyphenated and specialized HPLC techniques (LC-MS, LC-NMR, Preparative HPLC, High temperature HPLC, high pressure liquid chromatography) are also discussed.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Without question LC/MS is the most dominant application of mass spectrometry in the pharmaceutical industry ... That being said, the editors should be commended for how well they took on such a comprehensive subject and worked with several recognized contributors to make a text that is both manageable and highly informative." (J Am Soc Mass Spectrom, 2007)

"...extremely useful and quite extensive in its coverage of the subject..." (Journal of the American Chemical Society, July 18, 2007)

From the Back Cover

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent book, January 19, 2008
This review is from: HPLC for Pharmaceutical Scientists (Hardcover)
This book covers the fundamentals of HPLC separation with the inclusion of most recent advancements in the areas, such as column technologies, UPLC and LC-NMR. I found this book is really useful in a sense it provides overviews in almost every stages in the drug industry from discovery and process development to formulation, drug metabolism, and commercialization. This directly helps me to work more effectively with analytical chemists from other functional areas. The authors surely understand what are the practical challenges that a bench analytical chemist is facing everyday and provide a lot of usful strategies such as method development recipe in chapter 8 to tackle the problems. Overview, I view this book as a great reference for HPLC separation and problem solving manual for the analytical chemists in pharmaceutical industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice for a little light reading :), May 17, 2011

This review is from: HPLC for Pharmaceutical Scientists (Hardcover)
This book is very in-depth.

It takes you from the fundamentals (what is the difference between reverse and normal phase HPLC?) to the small details (how will A2 values affect your separations?).

Some of the chapters were written by non-native English speakers, so some of the commas and other minor details are missing. This does not affect the quality of the information presented, it just means that sometimes you'll need to read a sentence twice in order to understand it.

This is a good read for both grad students and those working in industry.
