What a piece of garbage! My Dell power cords fry every 6 months or so (thank you, Dell), so I opted for a cheaper brand with good ratings. First, it does NOT charge my battery. If it dislodges from the port, the computer goes dead. Getting the adapter to power up takes a feat of magic for about 10 minutes of fiddling with the connections. I have no idea how or when it will work. Every now and then it just powers down, and I lose everything I was working on. I ordered ANOTHER Dell cord *sigh* and as soon as I get the Dell adapter, this one goes back! A Macbook Pro is next.

This adapter may work for other brands of computers, but it will not work for the Inspiron 1420. It will not charge at the same rate and continually triggers a warning prompt regarding possible battery damage. Ultimately I had to pay twice as much for the Dell version, but it did solve the problem. Too bad I purchased two of the adapters before I found out.

NOT for an Inspiron 1520,

This AC adapter is NOT for a Dell Inspiron 1520, which is a heavy desktop replacement. Instead, it is for a Dell E4200 or E4300, both of which are notebooks. It's about 1/3 the size and weight of the AC adapter it's advertised to replace. Amazon needs to correct this ad.
