5.0 out of 5 stars Best Heatsink For The Money October 28, 2011
By J. Bair

After finally upgrading to a 2500K, it was apparent very quickly that I needed to upgrade the heatsink, as the stock one was unable to even run at stock settings under full load. After looking around, I found a review on HardOCP of this heatsink and the immense value it provides for the money. The install is a bit laborious, but once installed, it runs fantastic. It's dead silent and cools great. Everything I wanted. =)

Also, the currently shipping models have the "new" brackets, so they work out of the box with ASRock and Asus motherboards.

Note: If you pick up this heatsink, be sure to get a long phillips head screwdriver in order to secure the heatsink. If you look, there's a hole at the top of the heatsink. This is used to access one of the two screws needed to secure it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome heat sink! June 24, 2012

I bought this massive heat sink for use in an experimental 500 watt RF amplifier. I had to grind the convex heat sink base plate flat to fit the transistors correctly, but that was a fairly simple task. I mounted the transistors to the heat sink with a "C" shaped clamp I fabricated for the purpose. It works extremely well.

My initial seat-of-the pants test of the HR-02 was to use a small propane torch pointed against the bottom of the heat sink. The HR-02 absorbed and dumped the torch heat easily. Then I grabbed my larger propane torch and carefully repeated the test. I was surprised when I found that the base plate stayed cool enough to put my finger on after I quickly removed the torch, while the warm air exited the cooling fin stack, quickly returning the base plate to ambient temperature. I was impressed! Apparently this thing was carved from an iceberg.

Although the manufacturer probably would not approve my final use of the HR-02, and certainly not approve of my cruel tests of it, I think that if it can handle all that, then it will be up to the challenge of just about any CPU cooling job you can throw at it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big, hardy, quiet July 22, 2012

Nice cooler, very quiet, but much bigger than it looks in pictures! Install was pretty painless, aside from having to take the motherboard out. Sturdy mounting hardware, I took my PC on a 2000 mile roadtrip and it didn't budge (I've had heatsinks that broke the socket when subjected to the bumpiness of travel).

Great for the price, but make sure you measure your case. Sticks out about 6 3/4 inches from the motherboard with the fan installed.
