With an iStreamer connected, enjoy true CD quality sound with the convenience of having all your music on one device. You'll amaze your friends when you show them the quality of sound emanating from a humble iPhone or iPod. If you do want to play music from an 'iDevice' through your HiFi system, how else are you going to do it? Using a regular analog iPod dock? The iStreamer delivers way better sound than that, and at a price that won't break the bank!" - John Bamford, HiFi News Simply plug your iPad, iPhone or iPod into the iStreamer; plug the iStreamer into its included power supply and your home entertainment system. I read about the Istreamer in the Wall Street journal. I have always been dissappointed with the sound of my IPOD on my hom,e stereo system but was pleased with the sound on a custom system I had installed in my truck. I bought one of these to try it on the home stereo and found out that I needed to upgrade my IPOD to the 6th or 7th generation devices. I did so and was completely blown away by the improvement in the sound on the home stereo. I also tried it in the truck and was surprised to find the system sounded better with the IStreamer. The sound I get from this DAC is the closest thing to a record I have ever heard from a digital device. I highly recommend this device to anyone who wants a quantum improvement in their IPOD music!

No one ever admits it, but I'm going for it: I Am An Audiophile.

No, not the $10K monoblocks and $1K interconnects into $25k speakers type, I am a Practical Audiophile. I enjoy quality sound, and quality sound can only come from quality components that have been selected and tested to work harmoniously together. You do not have to spend obscene amounts of money for quality sound--but you do have to spend a decent amount of $$ to get decent sound. No way around that. While CD's may rule (and vinyl addicts will say otherwise), MP3 and Apple Lossless is the most convenient thing now. And Americans will always trade convenience for quality. And I am as guilty as that as anyone. So can this little box compete with the quality of a CD player? Let's find out. . .

My system for this review: A Sansui 9090 into a pair of minty JBL 4311's and another pair of equally minty Pioneer HPM 100's (Thanks, Craigslist!). The Sansui puts out a max of 110 1970's-era watts. It was recapped and rehabbed by mufichaudio.com. It is warm and powerful and the JBL/Pioneer pairing enhance each other to create a full and rich soundstage. And as well it should--all of these components were made within a few years of each other and were designed to work with each other. This is all set up in my Man Cave: A detached garage 24' x 24' x 13' high with insulated, drywalled walls, concrete floor and lots and lots of Roxul Safe n Sound acoustic insulation. Yes, I am a very lucky guy with a very tolerant wife.

So why not just use my Onkyo SACD player instead of an "obviously" inferior iPod? Convenience, of course. I want to sit and listen and relax and drink my wine without being Mr. DJ.

This is the perfect device for me. I've been using the line out on my iPhone into a nice desktop headphone amp (AMB M3) at work for some time, and it has always been lacking compared to my home system. The iStreamer has filled in perfectly. It's easy to use, I can plug/unplug my phone at will without worrying about unplugging the DAC (it will reconnect as expected even if the iStreamer is already booted, despite what the instructions say), and it sounds beautiful.

I honestly wasn't expecting the improvement in clarity that I gained with this device, I'm blown away every time I listen to it. It compliments my M3 and Senn HD595 perfectly. I wouldn't change a thing.

Just to clarify for anybody wondering, this device will work with the iPhone 4S, as well as the iPad 2, even though they're not listed as being supported in the included documentation.

I stumbled upon the iStreamer on one of the audio forums that I frequent. I was searching for a device that would help to improve the sound from my iPhone while listening at home and also versatile enough to adopt for automotive use.

First the home setup. I have an original, g2 iPhone that is was connected to my home system through a Apple dock that originally came with my phone. The dock had a fixed 3.5mm mini jack that has a fixed output which was connected to my pre-amp. This set-up is functionally OK, but I knew that I was missing out on higher level of fidelity by using the built-in Apple DAC. While I understand that MP3s are not the highest quality source, I still wanted to get the best that I could, given their limitations.

I got the iStreamer and hooked it up per the instructions. It is rather simple and quick. One mistake that I made was to plug the iStreamer into the dock, which presented erratic synching with my phone. I called HRT and after a quick chat with a very competent gentleman I plugged my phone directly into the iStreamer, bypassing the dock, which eliminated all issues.

The difference in sound was immediately noticeable. The sound was more open and dynamic. There were details in certain tracks that I never heard before. Overall it is just a much richer, cleaner sound than before. I am very pleased.

I have yet to try the iStreamer in the car, but I see no reason why it would not give the same results as it did with my home system. I have a classic muscle car and I do not have, nor do I want a head-unit. My current set-up consists of my iPhone which is connected directly to an old Xtant amp through the headphone jack. While this set-up works OK, I know that I am missing a lot, especially on the low end.
