This review is from: HTC 3000 Heavy Duty Universal Mobile Base with 700-Pound Capacity (Tools & Home Improvement)
I needed a heavy-duty base for a vintage 8" Delta jointer that weighed in at about 550 lbs. I selected the HTC3000 as it was advertised to have enough capacity for this jointer.
It lived up to its billing. It went together in less than 30 minutes, and isn't strained at all by this machine. I'm particularly impressed by the fact that it is "locked" at all four corners when in use. The stationary wheels lock securely, and there are two "feet" that are lowered to immobilize the end with the swivel casters. It's almost impossible to scoot across the floor when all four points are "locked". The only reason I didn't give it five stars is I think it's a bit over-priced, but I can guarantee you won't have any buyer's remorse based on the quality and functionality of this base.

Not stable enough, May 10, 2007
Reviewer: E. Weber "woodworker" (Nashua, NH United States) - See all my reviews This mobile base is similar to the HTC1000 and HTC2000 except that it is rated for heavier loads. I did try to use it for my 500 LBS bandsaw. It does hold the weight but the design of the mobile base with straight rails just isn't good enough to absorb vibrations of heavy machinery. I think angled rails or much stiffer ones would be necessary. I did since use a shop fox base with much better success.

Not suitable for heavy equipment--,

This review is from: HTC 3000 Heavy Duty Universal Mobile Base with 700-Pound Capacity (Tools & Home Improvement)
This HTC 3000 "heavy duty" mobile base is supposedly rated for 700 pounds, but I mounted my Grizzly 10" cabinet saw (less than 500 pounds) on it and, after moving it less than a half dozen times, one of the casters has completely disintegrated and a second one is coming apart. And this is on an absolutely smooth concrete floor. I tried without success to find a manufacturers number/contact to complain with no luck. Fine if you have a light-weight piece of equipment, but don't try putting anything near the "700 lb. capacity."

After a quick look around at mobile bases I bought this base even though it had gotten mixed reviews. BIG mistake. No instructions, lots of assembly and the result was way short of my expectations. My 450lb cabinet saw is way too heavy for this base. It sags like an old plow horse. The outboard wheels are way too flimsy. The whole saw leans toward these wheels and the floor lock levers seem way too flimsy. I don't known enough about mobile bases to recommend another brand but I do know this one is not worth the money.

Poorly Designed,

What's killing this product is that HTC went with cheap plastic lifting pedals that raise and lower the base. Mine lasted for about 2 years and then both pedals cracked. My table saw weighs 450lbs. The floor I am working on is flat, I move my saw about 5 feet each time and I have never left the base stay in a raised position for more than 2 minutes. I'm going to contact HTC to see if I can get a couple of replacement pedals (at a reasonable price). Make the investment and go with a base that does not use plastic pedals as this is the critical leverage point for the entire base.

*(I gave this one star because you can't rate something "no stars")
The product description, and the outside of the HTC box say the size is 14" x 14" to 22" by 54". B.S. It comes with (4) 17 3/4" sides and (4) 13 1/2" sides. If you put the two 17 " sides on the ends, the other six sides stretched end-to-end only comes up to 45"(that's not bolting them together). If you add up their measurments you get 152" total. If you add up the total sides supplied it's only 125", and that's having them end-to-end, not bolted together! Then I figured it out. They were measuring from the OUTSIDE of the attached wheels, not the inside where the machine actually sits to get the 22" and measuring the other sides end-to-end from the outside of the wheels again to get 54"....what the #@$%^! I think someone was smoking some funny weed when they came up with these numbers. And, even if you still could use this base, it's never-NEVER- going to hold anything close to it's advertised weight limit. And a last general comment.....could these companies PLEASE start hiring an English speaking person to write their instructions!

I snapped about 4 bolts in half on this thing just tightening the rails together. That just shouldn't happen, for 700lb rating that type of flimsiness scares the crap out of me.
When I lifted one of the rear wheel stops, a piece of plastic snapped off from the pressure. All in all, i was looking for a no-joke, heavy duty monster that scoffed at the weight of my jointer/planer, this thing just didn't cut it.

I own a couple of these and bought them because Amazon was running a special and I got them for the price of the HTC 2000 Universal Mobile Base. This HTC 3000 base is more than adequate for medium duty service - such as mated to a 6" jointer or a bench top planer mounted on a stand but I would not use on a large shaper or a Unisaw. Just not heavy enough!

with other positive reviews and other stores having it back ordered, thoguth it would have been a good product. After two hours of fussing with it, teh brakes dont work and to quote my head of props it was a POS. so out into the dumpster it went. Save your money and find a better unit. This one is made in china and apparently without too much in the way of quality control.

The Universal Base instructions are clear and easy to follow. Photographs or drawings would make it even better but assembly was not a problem. It is a good choice to negate the wheel problems on my Powermatic 2000 Table Saw. It should work for most heavy items that need to be mobile. Installation on the Powermatic can be a bother for one person since the saw weighs 540 lbs. To install first raise the saw on the broken wheels as high as possible. Slide the corners of the mobile base under the corners of the saw. Attach the sides by carefully holding a nut between the saw and the side (not much space available there so finger dexterity is required). When all four sides are attached, lower the wheels such that the saw is resting on the mobile base.
Even with this process, some assistance may be required. OR: Assemble the base and find four strong people with good backs to lift up the saw and set it on the base. |
