5.0 out of 5 stars Great Smartphone
It has everything you want from a smartphone with a simple look. It's very sturdy in built. I dropped the phone once and the back cover and battery fell out but It booted up without any problem afterwards.

This US version doesn't have a front video call camera, but who really uses that anyway. I get HSDPA/3G coverage in the US (Manhattan) and Canada...

3.0 out of 5 stars Style is there, substance not quite
I've been playing around with a US-spec unit while considering replacing my Sony Ericsson W580i with a modern smart phone.

The Diamond is a simple but elegant looking device with a beautiful graphic interface. Easily my favorite aspect of it is the weather and messaging displays...they just look wonderful.

The physical device features a stylus...

It has everything you want from a smartphone with a simple look. It's very sturdy in built. I dropped the phone once and the back cover and battery fell out but It booted up without any problem afterwards.

This US version doesn't have a front video call camera, but who really uses that anyway. I get HSDPA/3G coverage in the US (Manhattan) and Canada (Vancouver), so there's no question about its 3G frequency and no need to upgrade firmware for it.

TouchFlo 3D is a little slow and takes a while to get used to, but after installing tweaks found on xda, it runs smoothly now. Windows mobile interface also takes some getting-used-to if you are switching from a non-pda phone. Built-in Opera browser is smooth and fast and totally owns IE mobile.

If you are looking for a heavy duty phone that gets you all the phone features plus email (downloaded from both wireless or Wi-Fi), GPS, internet, lots of customization, installing your own software like references, scheduling, maps (it comes with google map), then this is a great phone to be considered.

3.0 out of 5 stars Style is there, substance not quite, February 4, 2009
This review is from: HTC Touch Diamond 4 GB Unlocked Phone with 3G, 3.2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, and Windows Mobile 6.1--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory)

The physical device features a stylus held in place by a magnet, which comes out easily and automatically lights up the screen. The system locks once the backlight times out. You hit the "Power" button to light it back up, but I'm finding that whenever I hit that button, the back cover tends to slide up. The back just isn't that secure on my unit.

The touch screen is okay, but I find things popping up I didn't expect, particularly while entering in URL's on Internet Explorer. Once pages load, you can zoom in and scroll around pages on the screen, a function I found works clunky at best.

The unit charges and transfers files via a mini USB port. This is also the headphone jack. If you want to use better headphones than those included, you'll need to purchase an adapter. And you can't charge the unit while listening to music at the same time...at least out of the box.

I was able to stream CBC Radio over T-Mobile's EDGE service via Windows Media Player, but couldn't get some other stations that have WMA streaming (KSL Salt Lake City, for example) to go due to link issues.

I loaded several AAC formatted music files (imported from CD) from iTunes onto the HTC and imported them into the Windows Media Player library. The files played fine and album art displayed, but the albums wouldn't play songs in the correct order. Never did figure out why. My W580i does a MUCH better job here. This unit is also limited to a dedicated 4GB memory...there's no portable memory slot.

Call sound quality was acceptable, but ringtone volume was not. It's just not loud enough for me. System volume options are also too limited. It goes from "silent" to "loud" to "really loud", basically.

The camera takes okay pictures. The Bluetooth worked fine for calls and file transfers. I was able to transfer my ringtone files and individual contacts, but the unit would not recognize the "all contacts" file from the W580i. The wi-fi connected fine.

The on-board games...Solitare, Bubble Breaker (also known as "Jawbreaker" in some older smart phones), and "Teeter" (a motion-controlled take on those 'keep the ball bearing out of the hole' games)...are great time wasters.

Overall, this is one of the better smart phones I've tried...but I still find them to be kind of clunky.

It is a great cell phone, has a lot of features, touch screen. I took one star out because the manual was in Portuguese rather than English.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ehh..., June 16, 2009
This review is from: HTC Touch Diamond 4 GB Unlocked Phone with 3G, 3.2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, and Windows Mobile 6.1--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
It was an ok phone. I thought it would be a lot better and more versatile than it is. I was a little disappointed. When your using your phone it doesn't rotate the texting keyboard but it does it in every other program. I kinda wish it would do that. Also the screen shuts off a lot when I need it to stay on. Especially when I am making a call and I need to use the key pad to enter information, it was really frustrating. Also, you have to turn on the screen a couple of times cause it doesn't always load it will be black. I am disappointed with this phone, If you want to get it, hopefully you have better luck with it than me,

I LOVE my new HTC Diamond US. The best smartphone WM device I ever had (and I have had almost all of them). I was replacing the Europe version with this one to have US 3G supported, however I don't know what to think about AMAZON advertising that showed a photo of the phone with the front camera and the phone came without it. I DO need video calls as my operator provides the service. Any comments from Amazon ? You better change the picture

Looks like this cell phone is a used phone. No real manual and the box had been opened. I really disappointed.

I love this phone, really do. As soon as I got it loved the customizable features in it and how much can be done. Only one thing caught my eye. Have a friend that had hers before I received mine. Hers has a glossy finish in the back, and camera is much smaller. It also has a frontal camera for 3g video calls. Cant complain as this one doesn't have that scratch plus glossy finish but a nice, improved version of that which doesn't scratch at all.

This phone DOESN'T HAVE A FRONT CAMERA!! The image here is deceitful and initially I was very upset. Got over it quickly.

Im a scratch freak, and the protector that came with the phone provides great protection for the screen. In any case I bought additional covers from best skins ever which cover the entire phone.

Overall Im really satisfied with this phone, those who can't figure out how to use Win Mobile and Touch Flo, should stick to simpler, average ordinary phones.

Any issues with the phone, there is an entire forum on how to fix em (battery drain, customized ROMs signal coverage so on so forth). If you're into tech gadgets, then definitely get it, otherwise browse for one of those horrible clam shells available from service providers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as expected..., December 26, 2010
This review is from: HTC Touch Diamond 4 GB Unlocked Phone with 3G, 3.2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, and Windows Mobile 6.1--U.S. Version with Warranty (Black) (Wireless Phone Accessory)

the only thing missing here is the secondary camera as indicated on the HTC's page description for this model, also box came little damaged, not quite sure if it is a second hand product,it was label as NEW. at least the device is working fine, no problems so far, o already set up the configuration for this phone. the rest of the specs are ok, sometimes it lags, normal for this kind of devices .

Pros - Bluetooth® 2.0 con EDR
Wi-Fi®: IEEE 802.11 b/g
it takes panoramic pictures, : )
lots of apps can be install

Cons - slow start up
- hard to see screen in outdoors
- battery only last 1 day with normal use ( pictures, music, internet, messages, a few calls)

i haven't found the radio app
