Phone functionality without opening the case

Pretty good protection as well and fits it like a glove.

If you bend the flap back to do some texting, when it goes back to close it doesn't sit flat on the phone; it sits slighty ajar.

I only give a product two stars if it doesn't meet it's own claims.

This a pretty cool case. It's lightweight and adds to the value of the phone. There is a spring in the flap that helps close the case. I read on other websites that the case causes the phone to turn on inadvertently -- I've had this case for about a day now and haven't experienced that yet. Even still, the case doesn't keep the phone lit for more than a few seconds when closed.

The caller ID is stunning, especially in dark environments.

Now to the bad. This case ain't protecting jack. It does not cover the right areas and doesn't encompass the phone entirely.

If you bend the flap back to do some texting, when it goes back to close it doesn't sit flat on the phone; it sits slighty ajar.

In direct sunlight consider the dots useless, as there is a film between the phone and top of the case that dulls the screens output. ***One Week In*** Completely useless in sunlight.

I believe that this case is so expensive because your paying for both the logical and physical components of this feature. Currently there isn't any support for anything besides the native apps, which moots the ease of access thing HTC is pushing. I'm sure in some update there will be some type of added functionality.

If you don't get the voice dialer right on the first try, the prompts will then require you to look at the screen.

When the screen is active and case is closed, The case provides time and weather, call details, and volume status.

***One Week in***
This case is a true love hate. After many days of solid use, it's grown on me in a weird way.

The case refuses to sit completely flat.

Got the gray one, wanted black but it was all that was in stock at the time. I'm loving not having to use the power button at all now. Just flip open the case, and bam, the screen is already on and ready. Cool to check the weather and time. Going to test out the call accepting/ silencing feature right now. So far so good with just about every aspect. I don't care that the case wants to flip shut all the time, I'd more more upset if it didn't stay closed. The price is a little higher than it needs to be. That's fine, I understand HTC is trying to get it together financially. So I'll pay a little more for the htc name on it. They're definitely trying here, and as quirky and nerdy as this may seem, I really like the idea and functionality of it. Good buy, would recommend for all you other nerds like me out there.

This case has a lot of great features-- offering your phone protection is NOT one of them.

I dropped mine, while in the Dot View, and the case instantly popped off and sent my phone sailing. Also because the flap swung open, while falling, applications were accessed as it hit the ground and slid.

The cover hinging on the side creates quite a few issues as well. It must be forcefully held back while interacting with the phone as it's natural inclination is to spring closed. This creates a "bouncing" effect when using the keyboard causing errors.

If you know you're never going to drop it and don't mind the annoyance of always having to hold back the cover, then this should work fine for you. If it didn't instantly abandon my phone on impact or if it hinged at the top, for a more balanced case, I would like it a lot more.

The case is honestly very cool and does the job well, the plastic isn't cheap and feels nice. The dots are completely shown and are HD, my case when I first got it didnt close all the way onto the screen, I thought it was the screen protector(which is very thick and well made (skinomi is the maker)) it wasnt though. To make it close all the way simply lay it flat with the screen facing down overnight for a couple nights. Other than that just simply closing the case will make it close all the way eventually

This case design had so much potential to be amazingly cool and unique, Unfortunately, it is plagued by a few terrible design flaws.

First the positive features:
1. Very attractive with cool retro look when the dot-view lights up
2. Maintains sleek look and feel of the M8. The phone still feels thin and not at all bulky
3. Phone wakes automatically just by opening the cover
4. Aside from a problem with the lid not closing well (more details below), the case fits like a glove.
5. The back is a somewhat bendable plastic. The front is a more flexible rubberized material. Both feel very durable. The front rubberized cover is especially attractive and nice to the touch.

Biggest shortcomings that I felt were unforgivable in a retail price $50 case:
1. Lid does not close fully with a screen protector in place, it stays propped up just a tad bit. It seems the case was designed to fit perfectly for the bare M8 without giving the smallest amount of clearance for something as thin as a screen protector. The thickness of the protector props the cover up similar to what a pencil would do if placed inside the cover of a hardback book. A little extra clearance or a magnetic strip embedded in the free edge of the lid for secure closure would have fixed this.
2. Lid is not hinged, it is made of a single piece of flexible rubber-like material that is glued to the back of the case and bends to open. It's designed to auto-close and you have to physically hold it open the entire time you are interacting with the screen. Very annoying if you're playing a game, watching a video, texting, browsing, or taking pictures. I take the phone out of the case for any prolonged use.

Other minor complaints:
1.
