I've upgraded to the HTC Rezound after owning a Droid 2. The battery life for that phone wasn't good either so I installed an App called Juice Defender Ultimate which helped extended the battery life of my phone for the regular battery. In addition to the extra hours of use the APP would give me, It would also tell me how much charge time I had left in order to be at 100% charged when the phone is plugged in. When the phone is not plugged in, it would tell me how much battery life I had left until the battery ran out. The APP has been pretty accurate so far. The regular battery for the HTC Rezound would last for around 9 to 11 hours at the most on average with Juice Defender Ultimate installed (that's with Wifi, GPS, and Gmail sync turned off to conserve power). I bought the extended battery in order to see just how many more hours of use I could get out of the phone from a single charge. When fully charged with the extended battery, Juice Defender Ultimate says that I had 26 Hours of use on my phone, so to me it was well worth the cost and the sacrifice in size and weight. So with that being said, The trade off with the addition of an extended battery is that it will make your phone thicker than it already is. To me, its not such a big deal but for some people it might be. Its all about individual taste I guess. The Phone with the Extended Battery and Extended Battery case (which are both OEM) that it comes with will fit in the OEM Desktop Dock with out issue if anyone was wondering. I know a lot of sites and people have commented that it doesn't, but it does fit. One comment on a site even said that you had to take the Extended Battery cover off while leaving only the extended battery in the phone in order to charge it on the dock, that is simply not true. The OEM Desktop Dock has a grove built into the dock in order to accommodate the additional size of the OEM Extended Case. I am unsure if that is true for the OEM Windshield Mount for your car as I do not own one.

Pros
About 15 to 16 hours of additional battery life with help from an APP.

Cons
The additional bulk in size it adds to the phone.

Note: I have updated my review of the Battery Life since my first post. I originally reported that the battery life extended from 9 hours to 16 hours. After a week, I am getting close to 26 hours of total use time.

The stock battery was woefully inadequate. Admittedly it was early on in my phone usage since I'd just gotten it, but battery indicator was yellow within a few hours...this was with wifi connection not 4G. I turned off bluetooth and it seemed to help but basically after a full charge overnight, email checking in the morning, mild usage as a phone during the day and by late afternoon it was crying.

With the extended battery a charge lasts all day--including through the evening play time. It lasted through the night but was yellow and warning me in the morning. I have yet to use the phone with 4G internet usage all day on either battery so I can't speak to battery life in that situation.

This does add considerable bulk to the phone, but as another reviewer said, I think it is actually more comfortable to hold with the extended battery door due to the bump out. Of course the rubber cover I'd gotten was useless and there don't seem to be a lot of options for the extended battery equipped phone. I found some hard rubber bumper that fits nicely at htcpedia dot com. I didn't experience any overheating issues so that reviewer must have gotten a lemon.

The list price at verizon was $59.99, though with the discount for buying a bunch of accessories at once I got it for $20.99. If it didn't add so much weight I'd have given it 5 stars since it makes the phone usable without worrying about charging whenever available.

Why necessary? Have you ever used a 4G device? Chews through batteries. Although i would say that the Rezound is pretty good about battery life, if you do not have dozens of accounts syncing all day. The extended battery was a great buy, but I understand that buying directly from VZW is often cheaper.

Helpful because the battery and battery cover actually make the phone easier to hold, for me. With the regular battery and cover, the Rezound feels a little too light and slippery. But i would suggest getting the extended battery for daily use. You can go the whole day with just one charge, which i was never able to do, even with a Droid Incredible (which was a 3G device).

Very happy with the battery.

First off, you can find this for about $30 with the battery door at other places. Look around.

After a few days with the phone, giving the original battery enough time to get its max time, I decided to get the extended battery.

The very first thing I did was turn off my phone and charge the battery for around 5h30m. Then I ran the phone for 95 hours with less than average use before I charged it at 5%. Keep in mind I am on wifi 95% of the time and am currently in a 3G area. My brightness is also set below average. And since this is a secondary phone, I did not make many phone calls or send/receive texts. I just used it to get email, apps, and browse. Even so I was pretty happy with the battery life.
With the original battery I got around 18 hours under similar conditions. So I am quite impressed.

Of course the weight and size increase pretty dramatically. Orginally, (according to my scale and official specs) the phone weighed 164.4 grams. Now it weighs 197 grams!

This is only my first charge, so I will try to update this review once I have used it a while longer.

Other than the size, my complaint is that the cover squeaks a bit and doesn't seem to fit quite as tightly as the original.

For whatever reason the antenna connectors on the extended cover are hidden, unlike the original. Not a complaint though, just an observation.

EDIT: I did use this phone in a 4G area and the battery plummeted in comparison to 3G. If you are in a 4G area, but want max battery life over the 4G speed boost, I would recommend changing the setting in your Rezound to 3G.

UPDATE (4/16/13): The Rezound has received two OTA software updates since I wrote this review. Unfortunately, I think they have contributed to the Rezound being not as battery-friendly as it used to be, at least for me. Of course the battery gradually loses its maximum capacity, but even with a newer extended battery, the phone in idle state lasts 1.75-2 days. In a normal use or higher use state, it sees just over 1 day.

Some people have become so unrealistically spoiled by thin phones that serve no useful real world purpose since they require a wimpy battery to keep the phones small. Those folks are more concerned about looking cute instead of having enough gas in the tank to last 2 weeks. I'm not into pulling into the gas station every 5 days to top off the tank.

The competing Motorola Droid Maxx has a 3300mah battery which is the largest battery in the world! HTC had to compete with that phone and address the needs and concerns of those who chose the Droid Maxx just because the phone lasts the longest on a charge.

To me, the Rezound is not that much thicker with the extended battery. And I've had older phones that are thicker than that.

Let's put it this way...nobody will ask the question, "Is that a phone in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

I noticed a significant increase in how long my battery lasted. Also installed juice defender, which works great. Although bulky, I now never have to worry about running out of power on the go

The HTC Rezound just eats up the standard battery too fast. By two or three in the afternoon it's down to 20-30% power. This extended battery always lasts me from the time I get up until the time I go to bed with power to spare. Yes, it adds to the thickness of the Rezound but it's actually more comfortable to hold when using the phone for talking or texting. If you like to carry the Rezound in a suit coat pocket then your better off with the standard battery with a possible spare battery in another pocket.

Great product. It shipped promptly and installed easily. When I first put it in, I powered it up and let it charge to 100%. Then I attempted to run it down to empty, so I could reset my battery stats yesterday. This proved harder than expected, as this thing is a beast. I used my rooted Rezound (ICS CleanROM)all day long yesterday, and its still running this morning without having charged it during the night. Although early, this is very promising.

Very nice quality, it doesn't have the "beats" logo but otherwise it's the same cover just thicker. I think it fits in my hand better and give me more weight, which I like. Also the stock battery will last a long time if you Root your phone and use a couple apps.. Titanium Backup and Autostarts are by far the best 2 apps to have for battery life and privacy.

I am always using the phone all day long and it always has a least one third power left at the end of the day. the back cover fit like the oem one . Its a bit bulky but what do you expect the battery is twice as big.
