HTC you might want to read this!

I am rating this a 3, but it can become a 4 when you add the floor shims, and a 5 if they welded the stationary wheels in a different location.

I put a Grizzly 1023SL on this mobile base. It fits in there perfect with about a 1/4" clearance on the sides. I put a 3/4" piece of plywood down to add a more load bearing support than just the welded triangles in each corner.

I chose this over the SHOPFOX version because I have used HTC mobile bases in the past and they have been adequate. This base is also adequate but IMHO could use some improvements. The quick release locks on the main wheels work very good. The 3rd brake which is located near the triangular part of the frame and swivel caster is not very stable. It produces to much deflection when locked down. This was big disappointment.

When the base is not locked it glides smoothly around the shop and makes the tool mobile. This is where it excels. To make it solid when it is locked down I bypassed the 3rd brake buy making custom floor shims for the frame to sit on instead of the weak peg that introduced deflection. This gives the base way more contact surface on the angled part of the frame and really beefs it up. This made the base way more substantial to resist the rocking deflection and takes very little extra time to put them in place once made.

Now another bad design, and one can not be fixed, is the placement of the 2 non swiveling wheels on the base. They should be welded either all the way back, or on the back base frame itself(much preferred). Where they are located can produce a teetering effect rather easily if the saw is not balanced.

All in all it works good once the floor shims are in place and it glides fine on the floor. The frame is beefy enough to support the weight of my 500+ pound saw with no problems.

I have not used the SHOPFOX base so I can not compare it against that base. However, you should. I would suggest you try to find a review on that first before purchasing this base to see if it is any better.

I have mixed emotions on this one and do not know if I would purchase it again. The only way to be sure would be to compare it to the competition directly.

I have a Jet JTAS-10 left tilt cabinet saw, and it is HEAVY. I had an HTC base for it several years ago, a lesser model that I spent quite a bit of time putting together. It worked, but did not fit exactly. Worse, it did not roll that easily (in my opinion), and was difficult to lock in place. I was glad to give it to a friend when I moved to a new house, where I had a large shop and didn't need the thing.

In the meantime, I had to replace the front fence rail, and ended up making it much longer and out of far heavier stock. It now weighs so much that, by itself, it is difficult to pick up. That, plus I added a 1 inch thick melamine router table to the right side, which is huge and also very heavy (plus the 3hp PC router stays in it). In other words, there's at least 100 pounds that I've added to the weight of an already heavy machine.

I ordered this an paid the extra few bucks for one day prime shipping, and it arrived in one day. It went together quite quickly, and my saw fit in it perfectly. It sits up about 3/4 inch, and rolls easily with no groaning or creaking, despite the huge amount of weight. It is very, very easy to lock into place or unlock. I've only done one project with it so far, which involved cutting up a 4x8 sheet of 5/8 plywood into 12" squares; locked in place, the saw did not rock or move at all, at least not that I could notice (and I'm nit picky about that kind of thing).

It takes a LOT for me to give a tool 5 stars, but this base deserves it.
