Amazon.com Product Description

The slim, pocket-sized HTC P4550 TYTN II smartphone is bursting at the seams with a full-menu of wireless capabilities to keep you connected wherever you roam on this globe--quad-band GSM for global roaming, Wi-Fi, EDGE, and speedy data connectivity via a tri-mode 3G UMTS network. Practical and versatile, the phone's face slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard while the screen tilts for optimal viewing of email, spreadsheets, and web videos. It also adds the power of the Windows Mobile 6 operating system (Professional Edition), which provides push email for immediate send and receive as well as editing of Microsoft Office documents. (See more details about Windows Mobile 6 below.)

The HTC TYTN II is a veritable wireless Swiss Army Knife, with quad-band GSM, tri-band 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity as well as a GPS receiver.

Like a micro laptop, the TYTN II features a full QWERTY keyboard and a face/touchscreen that tilts up to 40 degrees.
With its high-speed 3G network capability, you'll be able to access streaming music and video services, and the phone includes an internal GPS receiver. One of the most powerful, feature-packed smartphones on the market, the HTC TYTN II also includes a 3-megapixel camera (with video capabilities), Bluetooth connectivity with stereo music streaming and multiple connection capability, and MicroSD memory card expansion up to 4 GB.

This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides quad-band connectivity (850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider.

Phone Features
Akin to a micro laptop, the HTC TYTN II's face/touchscreen tilts up to a maximum of 40 degrees, and the variable screen angle can be positioned to suit your needs, whether you're catching up on email, browsing the Web, or playing a game. The QWERTY keypad offers roomy, rectangular buttons that are tactile and backlit, making it easy to type with both thumbs while on the go. The large 2.8-inch touchscreen has a 240 x 320-pixel resolution and support for up to 65K colors. It sports a 256 MB memory (not all user available) and a MicroSD memory card slot, which is compatible with the latest 4 GB capacity.

The HTC TYTN II can handle high-speed data connectivity via a provider's third-generation (3G) cellular network, making it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services with speeds up to 3.6 Mbps. You'll also enjoy 3G broadband speed connectivity across the globe with tri-band UMTS/HSDPA capabilities (850/1900/2100 MHz), which allows the TYTN II to operate in Japan and Korea. In areas where the 3G network is not available, you can continue to receive service on your provider's EDGE network. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go.

This smartphone has an integrated Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), enabling seamless connectivity with wireless networks at work, at home, and on the roam via Wi-Fi hotspots at airports and coffee shops. The HTC TYTN II supports Bluetooth 2.0, which allows up to six Bluetooth devices to be wirelessly connected simultaneously to the device--one of which can be a Bluetooth stereo headset for listening to music.

  • Instant messaging via AOL, Yahoo!, and Microsoft Live
  • Email: POP3, IMAP4
  • Music format support: AAC, AAC+, eAAC, MP3, WMA, WAV, MPEG4, AMR
  • Record videos and voice memos as long as you have available space on an optional memory card
  • Full duplex speakerphone
  • Flight mode turns off cellular network and Wi-Fi for enjoying stored music and video
  • USB 2.0 wired connectivity

Vital Statistics
The HTC TYTN II weighs 6.7 ounces and measures 4.41 x 2.32 x 0.75 inches. Its 1350 mAh lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 4 hours of talk time, and up to 10 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequencies, as well as the 850/1900/2100 UMTS/HSDPA 3G frequencies.

Powered by Windows Mobile 6

Windows Mobile 6 adds power to your mobile office with up-to-date e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization of Outlook calendars.

Edit Word documents and Excel spreadsheets on your phone, just as you would on your desktop/laptop PC.
Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 updates the Windows Mobile 5 platform with a number of handy features that make searching through email, editing Microsoft Office documents, and staying on top of your most important communications even easier. Emails can now be viewed in their original rich HTML format and now offer the ability to visit embedded links. It also includes Windows Live for Windows Mobile, which provides a full set of Windows Live services, such as the Windows Live Messenger IM application, which now enables you to chat with more than one person at one time or send a file.

With Windows Mobile 6, your phone will finally be able to emulate the power and features of your PC's Microsoft Office suite. You'll be able to neatly view, navigate and edit Word documents and Excel spreadsheets in their original formatting--without affecting tables, images or text--as well as view PowerPoint presentations.

  • Microsoft Office Word Mobile features include spell-check, Find and Replace commands, bulleted lists, text formatting, and support for tables for the first time.
  • With Excel Mobile, you're not just confined to editing charts: with the new Chart Wizard you can create charts quickly and easily.
  • PowerPoint Mobile allows you to view the full presentation, rehearse timings, check the order and any live links you may have in your presentation. You can then email comments back to the team or communicate via MSN Messenger for an immediate response.
  • After creating or editing a Word document or Excel spreadsheet, you can synchronize it with your PC and it will automatically be converted to the PC version.

All Windows Mobile 6 powered devices include Direct Push Technology for up-to-date e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization of Outlook calendars, tasks and contacts through Microsoft Exchange Server. It also offers a set of important device security and management features that include the capability to remotely wipe all data from a device should it be lost or stolen, helping ensure that confidential information remains that way.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a great phone...I gotta admit, November 5, 2007

This review won't be the highly technical sort that you might read on Amazon and other sites. This will be pretty simple and straight forward.

This is a nice phone. It does anything and everything you could imagine a cell phone could do...and then some. As an avid user of a Treo (Palm) for years, I was ready for a new handset, and my new job required a Windows Mobile platform. After quite a bit of study, I made the switch to the HTC TyTN II...with no regrets thus far.

The description will give more detail than I could ever give, so suffice it let me highlight a few things:

1> Is a great PHONE. So many of these PDA phones forget what they are first and foremost. While I really liked the form and function of the Palm OS on my Treo, it left a lot to be desired in it's ability to catch and hold a signal. This TyTN II does that really well. Perhaps it's a bit of a carrier issue too, but I've had very few dropped calls in the 2 weeks I've had it.

2> The internal GPS works really well. If you're all about reducing the number of "things" that you carry with you, you've now got a very capable GPS strapped to your belt. Is it as feature rich as a stand-alone GPS? Probably not, but I downloaded the TomTom 6 maps of the US and Canada and it works great.

3> It has a cool feature that lets you take a photo of a business card, and then export that to your contact list with fields populated. Kinda cool and works pretty well.

I recommend this phone highly. It's a few bucks, but if you rely on your phone as a business tool like I do, it's worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great phone., December 14, 2007
This review is from: HTC P4550 TYTN II Unlocked PDA Smartphone with 3 MP Camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, MP3/Video Player, MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Gray) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This is a great phone/pda.

I recommended previos version of that phone HTC Wizard to couple my friends and now they threw away their pdas and only use this type phones. The only couple negative things (minor ones) about this phone are

1) When using GPS batter dies very fast. I'm talking the entire batter will be dead within couple hours of using gps so if you want to use GPS on that phone you better buy car charger.

2) Speaker is not as loud as on previos versions of that phone. For example HTC Wizard had 2 speakers this one has only one and it's very small. I wish HTC made the speaker on it a little bit more powerful. It's really hard to hear if somebody is calling so I have to use both vibrate and sound just in case.

Other then that the phone is great.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best phone I have had so far!, January 6, 2008
This review is from: HTC P4550 TYTN II Unlocked PDA Smartphone with 3 MP Camera, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, MP3/Video Player, MicroSD Slot--International Version with No Warranty (Gray) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This is really a great phone and one that is very easy to use if you are used to the Microsoft Windows Operating System.

The nice thing about this phone is that the screen can be operated either by touch (your finger on the screen), by the included stylus (pen you use to directly touch the screen), and with both a virtual and a real keyboard. The keyboard is under the screen and it slides open form underneath it. The keyboard is quite big and very easy to type on. My keyboard was the QWERTY type. The virtual keyboard is also easy to use with either finger or stylus tapping, with the latter much easier. As comparison, the virtual keyboard on the Apple iPhone is much better and easier to use.

The color screen is large and very clear. I love the opening screen (or welcome screen) where you are greeted with the time and date, your email and SMS/MMS inbox, and the number of missed calls. On the lower screen you have your Windows Live and Windows Messenger command screen. At a glance you can see whether you are online or offline, and your online friends. Below that are your appointments. So at a glance, through only the initial screen, you have all the information you need.

From the initial screen you also have direct access by either finger or stylus tapping to your speed dial (favorite numbers), the weather, the launcher (where you have different settings for your phone, like tilting the screen or changing its brightness), and ringer or vibration options.

Setting up my email and SMS/MMS was really easy, with most of the steps automatically done. Syncing with your windows computer is also a snap.

This is really a very user-friendly phone. Among some useful features are GPS, Bluetooth, and two cameras. The GPS is really easy to set up. I have Destinator 7 on my phone, and it works great! I used the GPS in my car and in between high buildings, and I was always able to receive a signal, giving me continuous GPS coverage. The GPS antenna on this phone is really powerful!

The two cameras are used for video conferencing. The image is sharp, and it is very easy to switch between video call and a normal call. You can even put the caller on hold, or switch off the camera from your side.

I did have some problems with the speakerphone, but I may have resolved this problem with software update.

Overall this is a great phone, and I love it! I wouldn't switch to any other phone in the near future.
