first of all, the device does NOT work by itself.

for 1.5 (cupcake) users go to [...] from your 'gPhones' :) and grab Toggle Headset - do make sure you go to settings > applications > and turn on 'allow installation of applications from outside the Android Market'. Toggle Headset is a WIDGET so put it on your 'desktop' voila!

***this is probably still in beta development there is an occasional glitch in the sound but it's very very minor compare to when it's not working at all right? lol!!***

I loved this adapter and would have given it five stars until a week ago. Then I received the Android firmware update on my G1 (version 1.5 aka Cupcake). Now this adapter doesn't work. I had two of these and tested them both, so I'm sure it's not a malfunctioning adapter. I wrote HTC and they were totally unhelpful. Be forewarned!

I was a little leery of trying this with the Hero (it's not listed in the compatible devices) but I figured at $3 it was worth a shot. It works flawlessly. I use in in my car to stream shoutcast over my aux input in my radio and charge at the same time. It's nice to only have to connect/disconnect one thing getting in and out of the car. Causes absolutely NO buzz over the speakers. What more could you want?

I want to be able to listen to my G1 in my car on long drives, which means I need both audio out and charging capabilities. I tried another adapter that didn't work. This one works great. The only thing that I could ask for is that it wouldn't kill the mic on the phone when headphones are plugged in, but I think that's an issue with the phone design rather than the adapter. You can use this to plug your headphones in while charging, or you can use the standard mic+headphone plug that comes with the G1 to charge and talk and listen on headphones at the same time.

It also feels like it's made of good quality - not just cheap connectors thrown onto cheap wires.

No issues yet, and I even tried charging, listening to music, and talking on the phone at the same time. This adapter totally should have come with the phone.

If you get a buzzing sound when connecting to your car's audio and a car charger at the same time, you probably need a Ground Loop Isolator. That fixed the buzzing for me. I think that it's an issue with the car, not with the adapter, so I'm still leaving this as a 5 star review.

If you have a Sprint Mogul like me then this product will probably not work right out of the box. You should probably test it first, but if it does not work then this simple modification to the plug will make it work. The modification is the bending and/or removal of the far left #1 pin of the plug. (When looking at the plug as seen in diagram below...the straight edge is on top and the lower left corner is not square)

After spending time in online forums I was able to come up with this solution. The simple modification allows the product works as advertised. My primary use for the product is to hook the phone into my audio jack of my car to listen to music, and still be able to charge the phone! This product does it with no problems after modification!

I second JB's review. Loved the adapter(s). I had two of them that worked flawlessly until I received the 1.5 firmware update (cupcake). After the update neither adapter works. I tested my phone and my wife's G1. I live in the US and we have a standard G1s, no mods, no hacks, or no tweaks to the phone or firmware.

Prior to the update I could listen to music and charge at the same time for endless music. Now only the charger works. I hope a patch is coming soon?!?!?!

UPDATE: I found a work around. Using the G1 factory USB to 3.5MM headphone adapter in to the USB headphone port on this adapter works! Not perfect, but I can listen to music and have power at the same time again.

I've not had the firmware issue from above. I'm running the cyanogenmod 5.0.8 (android 2.1) on my G1 and it's working perfectly. I can charge my phone in the car and use it on the stereo across the 3.5mm adapter.

Bought this item to use with my Google MyTouch 3G phone made by HTC which only has 1 port for BOTH input amd output (mini-USB, horrible design on the phone), the phone came with 1 mini-usb to 3.5mm audio jack converter which I have to use for playing Pandora radio from the phone to any headphones/speakers. I've had this for about a week now and thus far this is really great, coming out of the phone using the mini-USB and it has the option of converting the audio signal to 3.5mm audio jack, 2.5mm audio jack or another mini-USB port depend on the type of headphone/speakers you have, and on the opposite end of the mini-USB input there's another mini-USB port which can be used to charge the phone or be used as a data port to the phone. So far I've tried all the ports and everything worked fine.

The MAIN reason I got this is because as the previously mentioned Google MyTouch 3G phone I have only has 1 jack, a mini-USB port to use for EVERYTHING, the poor design on the phone has left me the options of either play Pandora in my car by hooking it to my car radio and drain the power or charge my phone via the cigarette lighter but NOT both, I can't do both at the same time with the accessory provided with the phone. Now with this gadget I can connect the mini-USB on the pigtail cable to my phone, run a 3.5mm cable from the gadget to my car's auxilary input AND run another mini-USB cable from the backside of this gadget to the cigarette lighter plug for charging, now I can play Pandora in the car as long as I'd like without worrying about draining the battery from the phone, IMO this is a MUST-HAVE if anyone has a poorly designed HTC phone like mine.

Sidenote: ordered this on a Sunday night and got it delivered on Friday via 3-5 day shipping, not bad for free shipping.

If you run Android (specifically XDAndroid) on your Sprint Touch Pro2, this gadget will do the trick to make audio work: music out to headphones, music out to AUX-IN jack of car stereo, and as a headset for phone calls. (These functions do not work in XDAndroid when the 3.5-mm jack directly on the phone is used.)

Not 5 stars because it seems like it could have been more compact. Otherwise has works perfectly for months so far.

Product does not work with HTC Mogul 6800 - you sould refrain from advertising that it does. I have tried it in 3 different phones, all with the same negative result.
