I bought this by sight only on the Amazon website because the price was so good. I truely was not expecting the quality of the PortaMate to be so high. I was looking at the local Home Depot and pretty much settled on the Skill brand of miter saw stand since I could do a feely touch thing on it physically in the store. After much thought I decided to buy the PortaMate and sat back to tell myself that it would be OK if it wasn't up to snuff. Well it came and I opened the box to find a very heavy duty, high quality full featured miter saw stand. Wow was I surprised. I looked at the assembly instructions and they were very clear so away I went with the assembly. All went well and I was done within a half an hour installing my miter saw on the stand. I am really impressed with the fit and finish of this item. It is holding a 10 inch miter saw and I have no problems using it to date. I really like the fact that is can be folded up and put away very quickly. I highly recommend this stand.
I am also very pleased with Amazon. I got free shipping on this item and that was almost as much as the cost of the PortaMate. How can you beat that deal, You can't

I got this after previously buying a Dewalt stand for my table saw (wanted to save some money). Well, I did indeed save the money, and this stand is usable but absolutely no frills. It's more flimsy than the Dewalt, and you have to tap the legs outward after setup to "settle" it. There was some minor shipping damage to some plastic trim parts. Worst of all, one of the setscrew nuts had damaged threads, and I had to buy a metric tap to clean out the threads, before the right-hand extended work support would tighten down.
All that said, it's a sturdy enough stand to work properly, and it cost less than half of the Dewalt cost. Legs fold up compactly, and weight is easily carried around. Recommended for anyone who doesn't need Champagne quality; this is a good beer for a beer price.

This product is perfect. It's a strong built product, comes with the basic hardware to help with long pieces that need to be cut, and is as light as a solid piece of equipment can be. I can easily carry it around with my saw attached but when I'm using it, it feels rock solid. The build quality was top notch and the height is just right (I'm 6'3") My old saw that I got from my father bolted on sturdily and without a hassle and I was up and running from box to cut in less than 10 minutes. This item basically came assembled, all I needed to do was slide in the board supports, screw in the set knobs, and attach my saw with the included hardware which came it varied sizes to fit differing saw bases. It even came with brackets to attach saws with irregular bolt patterns but I didn't need them. I would highly recommend this to anyone needing a sturdy, simple, life long saw stand.

Pros :
Build quality is high
Mostly assembled on arrival
Easy to open packaging
Plenty of hardware included for multiple style saw bases
Lightweight but sturdy

Cons :
No color choice (not a personal concern but some people are picky)
Not height configurable (appears to be perfect height for anyone from 5' to 6'3 and may be good for a wider range)

Okay, I'll admit it: I have nothing to compare this work stand to. My previous method for using my 12" Dual Bevel Dewalt Mitre Saw was to take it off the shelf in my garage, throw up a couple of sawhorses, and plunk it down on a small section of plywood. I'd fiddle with a couple of roller stands to support my work.

That being said, this work stand seems to be very solidly constructed. It would be a breeze to put together for anyone competent enough to be using a miter saw. The work height is a bit taller than I expected. The cutting deck is at my belly button on my 6' 2" frame. Having worked much lower from my sawhorses, it is an adjustment, but it seems much more ergonomic upon evaluation.

The saw is easy to put on and take off using the release handles. The handles orient to the back of the saw, which I questioned at first. After doing that way per the directions, I realized that with the handles at the back, you can use your belly to support the saw as you carry it and it actually makes it easier to carry. If you don't like it that way, nothing would stop you from turning it around so they are on front.

One small negative is that the legs need to be folded back together in the right order or they will get in the way of each other. Sharpie to the rescue! I just marked 1,1,2,2 on the 4 legs so I can remember the order without having to look. Another small negative is that the stand doesn't use rollers, it just uses round tubes for the support. I don't see this as a negative, but it would be very easy to DIY rollers in place of the tubes if you were so inclined.

Don't hesitate, just buy it.

Like other reviewers I was pleasantly surprised with this product. This thing is rated for 500 lbs and it feels like it. Its heavier than I expected and the welds on the table are thick and continuous. I'm using it with a 12" Hitachi sliding miter saw that weights 62 lbs and it supports it with no issues whatsoever.

The quick attach mounts included for the saw are great. They include little rubber feet of their own so you can set the saw down on a workbench, floor, ect. Now that I've got the mounts installed on the saw I don't see myself ever removing them. The stand comes with mounting hardware for an offset mount and I'm glad it did because my Hitachi is a slightly offset mount. I wasn't impressed with the mounting bolts and ended up grabbing some 8mm bolts from my shop. That said they are perfectly serviceable as is, I just prefer hex head bolts.

The stand folds up compactly and quickly and is easily carried by the cross support in the middle of the stand. Even moving the whole thing with a lighter saw on it is totally feasible. The side supports are a tiny bit flimsy when fully extended but I'd expect that on any stand of this type. Just take care not to put to much weight on them at full extension (use a roller stand as another reviewer expressed). The extension adjustment knobs are well positioned and so far seem to grip the extension supports very well.

This stand is a bit taller than other stands and its the perfect height for me (6'1"). The legs fold out and in easily and snap into place with a satisfying "clinnk!"

Great stand for the price - highly recommended!
