Don't buy if you want to move it while working - serious design flaw,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HTC PortaMate PM5000 Miter Saw Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
Assembled this stand and mounted my Hitachi C12FDH, my only concern being the durability of the orange plastic in hot Florida garages. Then I discovered a serious flaw. The wheels in the illustration on this site are shown mounted in the upper position, for use only when folded. Their axles snap into holes in the frame where plastic clips hold them in place. What the illustration does not show is their lower position on the same legs, where they presumeably allow you to reposition the rig around while you are working. The axle mounts are angled to attach to the pre-drilled legs, acheiving axles parallel to floor. But they position the wheels slightly higher than the legs! In other words, the wheels are useless lifting the other end to reposition the stand pivots on the leg ends, not the wheels.
I called Portamate and was told that the wheels mounts at the bottom of the legs are not designed to move the saw while in use. To use them, you have to remove the saw, and tilt the other end high in the air (really high) so the wheels touch and roll. I pointed out that in a workshop environment with overhead florescent tubes, etc., that also means closing the extensions for clearance. It also means that illustrations of the wheels in the lower position are highly misleading. Portamate was adamant - but could not provide any design insights as to why they even bothered with such mounts. This is a fatal flaw and I either return this or drill new holes for the mounts closer to the floor (voiding the warranty in the process.

For the money...,
This review is from: HTC PortaMate PM5000 Miter Saw Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
For the money this is one of the best miter saw stands on the market. I really wanted the gravity rise Bosch but with its extension length restrictions and a $300 price tag I looked else where. No, you can not move it easily once it is up with the saw on it but you can move it despite was was said in another review. I will say not very convenient though. That is the only flaw I can give it after using it to install a dining room and kitchen full of trim. This is a very sturdy and STEADY well designed stand that folds up nicely against a wall. I was not sure the little lumber "pegs" would be useful but was I ever mistaken! When casing out a door they came in very handy holding all the pieces while others were cut. The power center is nice to have in that I was able to plug my portable dust collector and table saw into it keeping the tangle of cords to a minimum. Just be sure to run a heavier 12 gauge cord as your main feed. For the money, you cannot go wrong.

has a few issues, but a good deal if you get it under $100,
This review is from: HTC PortaMate PM5000 Miter Saw Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
the wheels are useless so forget about them, they only work when the legs are folded up, which you cant do with a big saw on it. If you could remove the rubber stoppers out of the bottom of the legs the wheels might work as intended. For some reason the roller supports are so high that even lowered as far as they go i still had to add washers to the saw mountings to get them level with my saw, they were 3/8" too high and my saw has a 4.5" tall base! Im surprised nobody had mentioned this, although mine didnt come with instructions so i may have done something wrong. most saws would have the same problem. Also the supports are not strong enough to utilize the stoppers for repeated cuts without getting off up to easily 1/16". other then these things its a good deal. no regrets, but I got it for $80, $60 after rebate.
