The book begins with a rapid review of basic HTML design tips and codes and then gets right to the magic of first impression. Here, Pirouz shows how to use the META tag to not only get yourself noticed by Web spiders but also to eliminate browser offsets--direct users with older browsers to alternate pages--and otherwise tweak the experience for your visitors. He then moves on to highlight some of the lesser-known abilities lurking in every corner of HTML. He shows how to achieve unexpected effects with images, tables, frames, windows, type, and forms. It would be hard to page through this book and not fall upon at least one new technique you're itching to try. --Elizabeth Lewis

With the introduction of new Web browser technology and other Web development tools, Website designing has taken on a more creative role in the online communication of information. HTML programming presents many challenges as well as creative opportunities. Ardith Ibanez and Natalie Zee offer in HTML Web Magic some outstanding examples of creative design techniques that can add flare and personality to new and existing Websites. This book offers plenty of top-notch instruction that will result in getting any Website noticed. The authors emphasize the necessity of having fun and interactivity with a Website, as well as balancing between great graphics and information organization. Their advice includes being concise, being consistent, sticking to your main objective, and having fun with your ideas. Readers will definitely be challenged to become more thoughtful and creative in their approach to designing Websites. The authors will show them how! Design concepts and instruction covered in the book includes basic HTML, Web page layout, interactivity, selection and use of fonts and graphics, text alignment, text wrapping, horizontal and vertical dividers, cool features such as floating frames, pop-up windows, image maps, pull-down menus, column layout, and roll-overs, creating forms, navigation, Web browser and platform compatibility, and the use of browser-safe colors. Great instruction, colorful illustrations, good layout, quality printing, and concise format makes this book an ideal Website design tool to keep within reaching distance of your computer. The accompanying CD includes the HTML edition of the book for easy access to the HTML code presented in the book, animated GIF's, GIF Builder, Shockwave files, and other useful shareware programs and goodies! This is a 'beginners' book...,

This review is from: HTML Web Magic (Magic (New Riders)) (Paperback)
Really it is. I bought the book based on the numerous complimentary reviews, but as I have been going through it I have found virtually no new or unique tips or tricks - and I am not some stellar programmer. I think it is a good book for people who are creating their first web page and don't want it to look terrible. To be a sport I will say that my mopst used "tips and tricks" kind of book is HTML Artistry: More Than Code.
