5.0 out of 5 stars I made Thousands with this book
Thank Ms. Castro. I bought your book about 2 years ago and I began a small web business and today I have dozens of web sites on the net. I did this part-time with little other investments. I estimate I have made 30K or more. The best part is I am still using the book for quick reference. I gave the book to my brother and he became a web master of a internet...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but there is a superior HTML book out there.
I purchased this book after thumbing though it and it did indeed seem a whole lot better than those aimed at "dummies". A whole lot better in fact, and at $18.00 a far better bargain. HOWEVER, two days after buying this book I found Joe Burn's "HTML Goodies" book which is far better in every respect. More thought provoking, more complete and a...

I estimate I have made 30K or more. The best part is I am still using the book for quick reference. I gave the book to my brother and he became a web master of a internet company. I Asked for the book back and then passed it to a cousin who now has your new book. Your book changed our lives. Now that is the best review I can give. Thank you for a clear, concise, visual book that helps the novice become the master.

5.0 out of 5 stars High price does not always mean good content., September 2, 1996

This review is from: HTML for the World Wide Web (Visual QuickStart Guide) (Paperback)
There are so many computer books about learning HTML available, most cost $30 or more and are prohibitively HUGE and imposing. If you break down (or save up) and buy one, chances are great that you will be disappointed. That's because if you are unfamiliar with the subject, picking a "good" book about it can be nearly impossible. You can save yourself time, money, anxiety and backstrain by picking up Elizabeth Castro's Visual Quickstart Guide: HTML for the World Wide Web. Don't let the fact that it is cheaper and smaller than many titles offered fool you into thinking it is inferior. This is FAR from the truth. It is exactly what the novice to HTML programming needs. A text that covers the basics without drowning them in tech-speak designed to impress. You will be able to pick it up and really read it. And this is the secret, it's readability. You will be able to understand what she is describing and put it into action yourself! Do yourself a favor, start your collection with this book or add it to yours now...you won't regret it

HOWEVER, two days after buying this book I found Joe Burn's "HTML Goodies" book which is far better in every respect. More thought provoking, more complete and a whole lot more fun to read, with many "tricks of the trade" included. I just ordered Joe's book from Amazon.com and at less than $18.00, it's the buy of a lifetime for HTML newbies like myself.!

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This!, March 18, 1998
It's been said before, but this book is not only the most effective guide to learning HTML, it should also be the template for all such guidebooks. The book is not padded out with silly cartoons, nor does it have obscure and useless charts. This book is lean and mean. The fat content is EXTREMELY low. Each and every task that might be undertaken by a webmaster is outlined in 1 or 2 pages. The editors were brutal in stripping out anything extraneous. You will have a page up inside of an hour and unlike most other guides, this is actually NOT hyperbole. I do this stuff for a living and 2 years after first cracking open Castro's book, I still use it for reference, even as the other $45 HTML books collect dust. Yet another exceptional addition to the Visual Quickstart series. (Jeez, sounds like I'm getting paid for this!)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Peach of a Book, November 2, 1997
By A Customer
Elizabeth Castro's clear and concise book is an absolute must for HTML beginners. Seasoned web page designers will also find it useful as a quick reference guide.

Everything a beginner needs to create excellent web pages is included. Elizabeth tells you:
All about the HTML tags needed to produce pages that most 'readers' will find visually appealing.
How Netscape and Internet Explorer differ and how they will display your page.
Information about other HTML tags outside the 3.2 HTML standard.
Great tips on images and colours including a fold out colour chart.
Tips on how to test your page, including taking into account those 'readers' who do not have all the latest software.

However, one of the key features of this book is how well Elizabeth and Peachpit Press have organised its layout. The pictures on each page are small but very readable and they add so much to the usefulness and enjoyment of this book. I wish more books would do this. The other plus is the size of this book. It is very portable and I now take it everywhere - well .......

So, well done Elizabeth and Peachpit Press, I look forward to other titles.

To everybody else, get out (or dial in) and buy this book - I'm glad I did - and no, I am not on commission, related to the author or awaiting the publisher's feedback for MY book!

5.0 out of 5 stars HTML for the beginner, February 11, 1998
By A Customer
I read this book cover to cover the first night I had it at home. It spoke to me as a student, not a lowly, uncapable wannabe. The next day I sat in front of my computer and followed along step by step. I COULD DO IT!

I have no programming background, and came to the computer after the cumbersome DOS word processing programs. Even so, I gave up the GUI for lines of code and was pretty impressed with this simple language. I keep the book close at hand, though I've learned most of the coding. There is a great hexadecimal color chart in the back which is always a life saver.

If you're afraid of HTML, use this book--its light--in reading and weight--and not overwhelming.

Give yourself time and patience and you will build your own self-confidence while you learn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good thorough HTML primer and great colored source examples, August 24, 2008
This multicolored presentation of source examples, really is the best book I know to teach the fundamentals of basic HTML webpage programming. Since it was written before the newer techniques were developed if gives the reader all the tools they need to develop great looking webpages that are compatablile with any browser technology.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great tutorial for html 3.2!, August 5, 1999
By A Customer
I used this book to apply many excellent tricks to my web page. I looked at a few other books and their authors were nerds who did not know how to communicate very well. And they didn't even show how their examples worked. This book on the other hand showed me how the examples and lines of codes worked! This is a great book for any HTML authors like myself.
